We were MF through and through, early 80's they were the best. 590, 699, 2620, at the time great tractors. JD brought out the q cab the one with the curved screen and door, their sales went through the roof. Massey did not do the R&D kept rehashing the same, and fell behind. With Agco, and investment, the current range is up there at the top of the tree.
The sloping front windscreen reminds me of the Schluter, they are heading in the right direction, getting more Fendt like ever series, build wise, like it

Sat in the 5s today very similar power with the same back end and gearbox as my claas arion 460 I think I'm right in saying. Finished off well inside not sure about the bling steering wheel. Liked it though. Wouldn't be afraid to try one 👍

I don’t have any land or a farm but I got it for free so I couldn’t knock it back. It’s not running but was 15 year when she was parked up in a shed. I’ve taken some stuff off it to prep her for a sandblast and new paint and I’ve discovered she’s a gold belly. 4 cylinder diesel 1958 England built FE35. I’ve heard they are buggers to start.. Not sure if the Goldie’s were any good or not but I’ve only seen a few around all done up. Do you or Mucka know much about these old girls? Cheers
Been impressed with these new 8S and 9S Massey's. They really thought about it when they designed them. Wish the built in screen was a little bigger but otherwise I can't fault them too much without some seat time. Sight lines out of the cab are excellent, especially for row cropping. You really need a North American style quick hitch with that hydraulic toplink, that have to be miserable to hook up and an awful lot of weight to be swinging around if you were just pulling off the drawbar. Not near as impressed with the smaller ones with the 6 post cab though, that design is awful long in the tooth and IMO not competitive with the likes of a 6R Deere, they seem to class up with 6M's.
The 6r john deeres are about 50k more for the same size tractor as the massey tho and i personally like the cab in the 7S anyway, the 8S is a nice tractor but some fellas near me had a lot of trouble with the new gearboxes they put in it, the facelift model whenever its out tho should hopefully fix that
The mechanical underpinnings of this tractor range, are actually identical to the current Valtras in the same horsepower category. Style wise, the bonnet and cab are brand specific, as is the control interface inside the cab. As with Case and New Holland, essentially the same machine below the 'skin'.
@@phill6820 I too was expecting that, but my source for the info that it's actually all Valtra in below the stylish exterior, is a magazine called Profi, who regularly report and conduct in depth field and driving tests on pretty much every brand of tractor and machinery you'd care to mention. Additionally, whilst the MF 9S series are built at Beauvais, in France, the equivilent Valtra S series tractors are built in Finland, at Suolahti, as part of Agcos' common platform concept. Just aping what other manufacturers do basically, in order to keep inventory stocks more manageable and production costs down. Both the equivilent Valtras and MF 9S' use a six cylinder, 8•4 litre AgcoPower engine mated to a Fendt Vario ML260 Gearbox. So that is indeed the Fendt contribution. As with MF of old, Agco are 'raiding' their common parts bins and creating these tractors, just as MFs of former times used a group of common core castings to make many variations on a common theme. Again, the idea was to reduce inventory levels and reduce manufacturing costs. In reality, the MF that we all were big fans of, no longer really exists - it's only a brand name now, with its engineering outsourced to the most compatible manufacturer, ie Fendt or Valtra etc. AgcoPower is thè new brand name for what were formerly Valtra engines - good solid units by all accounts.
I’m assuming by your comment that you’ve not used any of the new Massey tractors? We have 2 7S model tractors in our fleet now and the lads absolutely love them. Incredibly quiet and the fact the cab sits in front of the rear axle makes them super smooth. The only gripe we have discovered with ours is that when you are silaging and you are pulling the carts the grass builds up Inbetween the cab and the engine and because the wiper sits down in that gap it builds up with grass and wipes it all over the screen and for those who have ever silaged with slightly wet windows will understand where I’m going with this. Absolute pain.
