Harley Davidson - GOING TO POUND TOWN (On Stock Mufflers)

  • Aftermarket pipes are expensive and even more difficult to purchase when you just bought a new Harley Davidson Touring motorcycle. Today we're going to mess around with punching out the baffles and/or restrictor plate on Harley-Davidson baggers. A side note, I am sure this is the same on a Softail or Dyna. All you need is a drill, 3/8" extensions, a hammer (preferably a small sledge) and a whole lot of beer.

    I was in that very predicament in Sturgis 1 year, and ended up with a sledge, and a really long spike that I happened to have on the RV. After about 3 vodka Red Bull’s some choice words, I was able to at least poke some holes in the baffles for the week. When I got back home, I chased it with same said sledge and a bar, (and I believe 3 beers as I was out of vodka by that point) and finally got them knocked out. It is therapeutic though!!

    Craftsmen for hand tools
    Ridgid or Milwaukee for power.
    Ridgid has awesome lifetime warranty as long as you register within 30 days of purchase. They also have a warranty on the batteries.
    I'm really hard on tools(4 foot cheater bar on 3/8 ratchet hard) so the craftsmen and Ridgid warranties have come in handy and saved a bit of money over the years.

      Northern Tool has a big sale on Milwaukee Lithium Ion drills, and batteries goin on right now. If you get their flyer, for $200 you get a drill/driver and a 1/4" impact, and you get a free battery and $20 off.

    I should've filmed it but I did this testing last year, first I opened up the center of the baffle on my 20 road glide, sound barely changed, then I cut the whole baffle out with a small cut off wheel, sound was obnoxious (not in a good way at all) my 107 had about as much power as my old 88 twinkly. Then i installed dk's thunder torque inserts and now the sound is great and the powers a bit more then stock, it's been over a year and i don't think I'll put aftermarket pipes on until I go big cubes someday.

    • @ProfessionalMonkey
      @ProfessionalMonkey  3 года назад +1

    leave that restrictor piece, there is an issue when you have your muffler to open called reversion, warm air will flow back up the pipe and cause the exhaust cycle of the lifter to no fully expel the used air. causes increased heat, and lower torque (you want back PRESSURE, not back FLOW). that restrictor stops that from happening. instead remove the catalectic converter from the head pipe. sometimes you can fish it out of the pipe or cut the side of the pipe and clear it out. that will increase sound, keep airflow how it should be, and open it just enough to increase a little HP with minimal loss to the torque. this will also help lower the running temp, ESPECIALLY felt heat from the pipe on your leg as the cat tends to get really hot. they even sell things similar to that restrictor for performance gains on pipes that are too open.

    • @ProfessionalMonkey
      @ProfessionalMonkey  3 года назад

      Good input. I have heard of cutting the pipe, removing the cat then welding up a patch.

    • @richardrussell500
      @richardrussell500 Год назад

      After taking the baffle out, you need to install thunder torque inserts to eliminate the reversion. Reversion causes a power loss.

    Dumb Question, i note your BACA hat is kinda Black & White and Silver, is that because your in Charlie's Territory ? Cause BACA up here is Red and white and Black. I have a funny pipe story, i had a 2006 FLSTFI (Fatboy) i traded even for a 2006 Mustang, and i went to drill out the Baffles, the Dealer didn't tell me the bike was from California........well the lower pipe was a Catalectic converter that ate thru 2 steel cutting hole saws and me and a buddy took the muffler off tried to jam thru a huge steel rod, nothing, so we said screw it and took a band saw to the muffler and thats when we realized it was the CAT!! Went to a buddy's shop and bought some V&H 2 into 1 pro pipes and it was done.
