    This house probable had kosher kitchens. This would include separate dishwashers and refrigerators to keep meat and dairy separate. Cool video.

      Agree kosher Jewish kitchen.My grandpa had a horrible experience in a kosher kitchen as a child. He made up his mind to become a modern Jewish man.

    THE OBJECT IN THE DOORWAY IS A mezuzah is a small case affixed to the doorframe of each room in Jewish homes and workplaces which contains a tiny scroll of parchment inscribed with a prayer. It is customary for religious Jews to touch the mezuzah every time they pass through a door and kiss the fingers that touched it.

    Along with my other comment, Ethan, I was gonna just let you know that as a person gets older, it gets harder and harder go up and down the stairs so they might’ve converted parts of the house out of necessity so that they wouldn’t have to go up and down the stairs so much or it’s a possibility too, that they had aging parents and design the house to where there would be two living quarters one downstairs and one upstairs just in my opinion, thanks for sharing please take care and be safe🫶🏻❤️🤠

    The Silver Cross Pram or baby carriage as called here is from England. Those are high end prams used by the Royal Family, and other well to do Brits.

    • @SallyChilvers
      @SallyChilvers 4 дня назад +7

      Our pram was a Silver cross, aka, the Rolls Royce of prams and used by all four of us. My maternal grandmother bought it for my parents and mum passed it onto a friend when she stopped using it. We were a working class family, everyone had these prams as they were great not only for transporting the children, but great for shopping as they had a wire basket between the wheels and a deep space under the bed area of the pram (under the mattress), something I wished I had when had my daughter 😂

    • @leechagirl5249
      @leechagirl5249 3 дня назад +5

      Silver Cross Prams from that time frame range from $4000-$8000. I hope it wasn’t left in the house by the family when it was torn down.

    Hi Ethan.. This is one of the best houses so far I have seen by you.
    The upstairs looks like it never was renovated from the 60's..very cool wallpaper and on the ceiling in some of the areas .that was the style.. I appreciate these type of homes . It appears the original owner passed away and the kids are selling the land.. Those baby carriages are vintage from the 60's..those are worth some money I am sure and some of the old style furniture that was left could be refurbished...totally enjoy your tours of abandon homes..
    Here in the states there are alot of no trespassing signs on abandoned homes from what I have seen on you tube..anyway, thanks again!!

    As of this moment, i stopped the video while you were in the basement because i was curious about those things on the doorway too! I did a screenshot and they're mezuzah cases, and they 'contain a parchment scroll with verses from the Torah (specifically, Deuteronomy 6:4-9 and 11:13-21)'. They're put on doorframes of Jewish homes as a reminder of the presence of God and a symbol of Jewish identity. We both learned something new today! Now i'm going to finish watching. :)

    Not usually a fan of mid-century houses/design but this was amazing! I’m thinking the original owner was an architect and designed this home for himself and family. I agree the upstairs master bedroom en-suite was the original and the lower one was used when the owner (s) became elderly and couldn’t climb stairs any longer. That basement was as interesting as the rest of the house!! Great house, Ethan.

    Ethan i really love this house. Love its style and finishes and light fixtures and kitchen and staircase etc. i would much rather live here than in some hastily built mcmansion. It would be more economical to do some restoration work and a bit of updating. Some of the coolest bathrooms! Yes theyre a little outdated but who cares. I would try to leave them the way they are. Cool wallpapers. Wallpapers seem to stay nice for a long time. Some of those extra wallpaper rolls in the basement could perhaps be saved and used on accent walls etc. as a matter of fact there is so much to be saved throughout. It would be nice to fill a small warehouse with left behind items that could have another life. So many pieces of furniture etc that i would even like to buy. And it has been a dream of mine to be wealthy enough to purchase some of these homes to restore them and sell them to buyers that would appreciate and cherish them for another lifetime. Too much is lost when theyre destroyed. Who needs a larger house than this. Thank you ethan for sharing this really cool house. Its one i would like to imagine living in. Take care, be well, and stay safe! Oh and i love the pool but hate the mold. Wish it were easier to prevent and remediate.

    Long story, but after a bit i came back to rewatch because it needed a 2nd viewing. At first i thought you were going too fast, but at your regular explore speed the explore would've been twice as long though i think it would've been justified this time (the house and their stuff was pretty cool). I DO think this house had a main floor (and likely basement) addition and my guess is all the carpeted area beyond the wood floor of the living room was new (plus the bathroom, walk in closet, and counter/sink area across from it) and the area of the basement with the low ceiling (btw, i was talking with American friends about CT money on Friday night 😂). I agree that basements with sump pumps should have that area lower (it's just common sense right?!). Trying to keep this short but i loved so much of this one--upstairs wallpapers, bathrooms, primary suite, the bubble window in the pool room (!), the kitchen (not the microwave location; short girl problem😄) and too much else to list. As for what you said at the end, it really is heartbreaking to see them go, but it's sadly not just a Toronto thing and the homes of this era are in danger in California too. Back in early November i was speaking with a woman from there who bought an MCM with her hubby (it's an account i follow; they're restoring EVERYTHING outside and in back to it's original based on vintage photos 🥰) who mentioned her neighbourhood is also losing older homes for the exact same reason. She's now trying to get her area declared an historic district before they're all gone.. hopefully with any luck it'll happen. Anyway, thank you so very much for this one, and no complaints at all from me that you took a little longer! Take care! 😊

    I loved it! I can only hope and pray that the furniture and fittings that are left are salvaged. Also the wood, it would be in my opinion criminal to just bulldoze the lot. Thanks for this viseo, blast from the past.

    Read up on mezuzah…my dad always kissed his fingers and then touched the mezuzah when entering….
    A mezuzah is a sacred Jewish object placed on the threshold into the home, which blesses and sanctifies their living space. A Mezuzah is a small, decorative case which Jewish households attach to the right doorframe of the entrance to their home. And in fact, the word 'mezuzah' means doorpost in Hebrew.

    I always like to see a Round window like in the Pool Area😊 The wallpapers and your excitement over details are catching! Wow! Wow! Wow! Endorphins galore in this exploration! One of the only ones where I was actually interested in the owners story! If everyone watched your explores the world would be much more optimistic and excited place😊

    These midcentury homes are very much like what we’re built in Rhodesia now is Zimbabwe through the nineteen fifties to the 1970s the most spectacular midcentury modern homes you’ve ever seen and quite a lot of of them are still untouched , Magnificent subterranean floors with fireplace is in the centre of them Rhodesian teak flooring throughout them all . Truly magnificent and this house in your video is no exception. It’s absolutely heartbreaking that it would be torn down.

    😯. Love this house! I would live here in a heartbeat - fix up the flat roof area and it looks good to go for years to come. Couple questions - were the kitchen windows original to the house? Also, in the upstairs master bedroom, was there a shower behind the bathroom door? I found your channel a couple of months ago. I love your explorations. The passion, respect, knowledge and empathy you bring is a breath of fresh air! Keep up the great work. I look forward to many adventures to come! 🥰

    Ty4 the amazing video🙌! It was definitely a Jewish Home & the symbol near each doorway was used the same way Catholics enter each room when they have a little bowl of holy water to dip your fingers in & do the sign of the cross, the Jews touch it & say the little prayer on it before they enter the room. I love the house so very much specially the staircase when you're looking down from above, when the house was new & not moldy u know how gorgeous it was! You should think about wearing a mask every home you are at that has mold because this will affect your health seriously when you get older🙏🏻! I loved all the bathrooms specially the master one upstairs, wow that would have been fun to get ready in LOL! It looks like they didn't like to throw anything away & just stored it in the basement. So many houses get demolished in Canada bc of the flat roofs they get destroy it, bc of so much snow & rain Canada gets! But I think they're learning their lesson not to make flat roofs anymore, take care & be safe, ty again, from the USA❤🤍💙
