- In this HVAC Training Video, I show Why Eccentric Flaring Tools Make the Best Tubing Flares for Mini-Split and Ductless Systems. I use the Uniweld UDFT Deluxe Flaring Tool to show how smooth the flare face can be. I show a bad flare and a good flare! HVACR Techs must make flares that can hold high refrigerant pressure without leaking. Supervision is needed by a licensed HVACR Tech while performing tasks as Experience and Apprenticeship garners Wisdom and Safety.

Thank you for sharing experience . I recently doing some LG units , some smaller units are required flaring to connect to the condenser and I had my first leak due to scratches . Thanks for helping me to improve
Fantastic demonstration and technique. I’m amazed how many bad flares Ive come across in the field. Too many techs think a flare is a flare. I would like to point out that you should inspect the brass fitting mating surfaces too for smoothness, discarding any male brass that have somehow been deeply scratched or marred. Well done as usual. You’re a credit to the trade! Be safe
Yes always inspect that for sure! Great Point, thanks!
Yep, I have an eccentric flaring tool, it works very well, mine does not have the stop for the tubing you have to judge it by eye, but that's not a big deal.
We have a spray here called Flare guard that we used on the cone of the flaring tool, works well, I save the nylock for for the actual fittings.
Love the book and the videos!
Cheers from Tokyo!
Very nice, thanks Tokyo!
I use the Hilmor Orbital Flare tool in combination with Nylog and it has worked out great for me. I can’t remember when the last time I had a flare leak was. Great video man! Thanks!
Awesome to hear Paul!
Great video man love how you go in to details on everything..
I appreciate that!
awesome Craig! thank you for sharing!.
Glad you liked it!
Thank you for your always best training videos 👍❤️🌺💐👍🎊
So nice of you
I follow you because I like the videos you make. Very interesting.
I appreciate that!
Nice explanation and tutorial.
Glad you liked it!
Great video thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you so much
You're most welcome
Very good tool I want have one
Don't forget to put the nut on before flaring 😊
I like how they say coppertubing as one word.
Brilliant stuff. Coppertubing!
Absolutely, maybe even add flared to the front of copper tubing, ha ha!
Perfect Congrarulations !!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great video! I see in your videos you always say to use Nylog or refrigerant oil on the cone. And I’m curious as to why? The company I work for sent some guys out of state to a Mitsubishi conference all about their ductless units and how to install or service them. And they said that WD40 works fine. Just quick spray on the cone and you’re good to go.
nice
We stopped producing flare connections long time ago. We utilize braze free zoomlock crimp connections. One should use the added protection seal of Flareseal for flared connections if your committed/invested with quality copper flare tools. There are also braze free quick connectors by Recterseal- undecided. Manual tool and die in the field creates to many variables on a mechanical flare that has to be sealed 100% in refrigeration. One can still braze on a mini split but the skill level goes up to perform well along with safety and hot work permits.
The issue is that the outdoor units still need a flared connection regardless of other connection points but yeah zoomlock or brazing can be done in other locations, thanks!
@@acservicetechchannel They've sell a zoomlock to preflared adapter for $38 each if one is really afraid of flaring.
what is the difference in clutch-type(rigid-type) and wing-nut type(imperial type) of a flare tool?
it says this in the manual and even has different depths for them
O nylog, é utilizado como ajuda de selante nas flanges? Qual a diferença do nylog azul para o vermelho? Obrigado
Great video! Question : you think you could make a video in the future on how to use pipe wrenches? Its been a struggle haha
I here ya. I would like to make a video course including that some time in the future, thanks!
Can this tool make a big flare with a small diameter copper tubing?
Can used vacuum oil on the flare?
I would like to see a comparison with a pressure test on the different methods of flaring.
John, thanks for letting me know what you would like to see!
We started double flaring our ductless. I had a Mastercool hydraulic unit in the shop that I use for double lap stainless brake lines. Once you use a double flare you will never look back. Disc brakes can exceed 1400 psi so they can easily hold 400 psi on a 410a system.
Another couple of benefits with eccentric action: less likely to split the pipe wall; 2/ most eccentric tools have a torque limit to prevent the pipe wall thinning too much.
These tools are stipulated by some manufacturers
Absolutely, thanks Nathan!
Como se llaman las herramientas??
Hey Craig any plans on getting the podcast going on a regular basis?
We are mainly working on written resources at the moment but it is really nice to hear that you are enjoying the podcasts and want to see more, thanks!

I'm ready to buy an eccentric flaring tool. I see the ones like the Yellow Jacket and the one your using here for $130-$170, and I just saw one that looks pretty much just like the Yellow Jacket for $35. In general I hate cheap tools, but I think it's wrong to just hate them because thier inexpensive. As a plumber I never have to flare anything, but I'm installing my first (and perhaps only) mini split and I'd hate to buy something I'd be disappointed in. Do you think inexpensive is a bad choice?
Double flare is the best this method is used for hydraulic fittings up to 12000 PSI and don't forget to clean the ends clean clean clean clean clean clean clean clean
Hii sir how much cost.fleringset
How can i buy this tols for a.c
Sir, how I can place order or purchase these tools and from where??? I am a refrigerant service man from Bhutan.

Do you have a supplier for the wheel deburring tool?
I got a flaring tool set made by Value, and they include a round deburring tool.
How far you stick the tubing to the cone before the final clamp?
There is a stopper for the depth so it is done automatically, thanks!
Wonderful tool possible website link where it is sold

How much sir?
Do the copper pipes on a mini split heat pump need to be flared like that or could you just braise them?
"braise" them?! I would suggest MIG welding for a positive seal. You're welcome.
Flare is the unit design. Esp on condensor unit. For evaporator braze is possible but usually quicker and safer to flare.
And hope for the best in regard to leaks ( over the long term)
At the outdoor unit, the tubing must be flared but at the rest, they could be brazed but make sure to flow nitrogen, thanks!
Is the part number listed for this tool?

Navac tool also does a good job if you have to make flares all day.
Absolutely, thanks!
@@acservicetechchannel Thanks for the video. Hey, you should do a video on the differences btw single zone and multi zone ductless units. I plan to install a multi zone but fear it won't have the same amount of capacity control for each zone.
Oh well, wifey doesn't want multiple outside units.
Donde lo venden ya.

Great video. But I think the Spin Flare kit blows the old way of flaring out of the water.
I really like the spin swaging tools but for flaring I certainly prefer the UDFT and other eccentric types because they do not scratch the inside of the flare face, thanks
I don't understand why flare at all when one could braise... What am I missing?
Give me that tool! plz..
👍👍
Thanks Maher!

I like the uniweld version because it has an eccentric cone, thanks!
@@acservicetechchannel how is the uniweld flaring tool holding up? amazon reviews on this tool say that the tool is of very poor quality

Iam following your works iam ac technician
Awesome, thanks!
Iam india,, Tamilnadu , chennai
You said if the flare is too small or will leak, what if the flare is slightly bigger
That won't hurt but only help as long as it can still fit into the flare nut, thanks!
Sometimes when you make too big of a flare, the edges get super thin and split, which then can spread to the good part of the flare. But you usually would have to go quite a bit oversized for that to happen.
How much that flaring tool?

Hm ok
Is flaring tool is another toy that makes the flare to thin a double flare tool works best it has plenty of copper to seat on the flare services when double wrench to heavy wall Frost nut and those High pressures of 410A
Guy, the manufacturers just call for a single flare torqued to their ft/lb specs, thanks!
Just because the buzzword is manufacturers doesn't mean it's right we tried all the single flares they are too thin you're actually making a copper with a double flare tool like EASTWOOD PROFESSIONAL LINE AND TUBING FLARING TOOL. this mate to the brass fittings and seat good why do you think the brass fittings are so heavy wall and one and is braised on.. you can cut those fittings out and braze both pieces together that's top end but that voids warranty. And you don't have to add any sealer Teflon tape duct tape pipe dope wait till you get into CO2 gas
Why did you add Nylog onto the cone if you said yourself that the cone is not turning and just pressing? There is no point to put Nylog there.
Unbelievable it’s Bad flooding tools
Weld it much better
Sar Hindi me boliy na
Too much fiddling just to get a flare. No time on site to mess about. On the other hand we also do want a good flare so no leaks take place.
This is the reason I use the spin brand swaging/flaring bits.
Ribet kurang praktis...
Uniweld UDFT Deluxe Flaring Tool used in the video: amzn.to/367jBXj
Spin tools causes galds and scratches. Not allowed in certain certified application. Just because it is quick doesn't mean good, unless quality doesn't matter. Like clowns that don't braze with nitrogen.
Quick.. cheap. Invest in good tools. They will invest in you
I’ve been using the spin brand bits for some time and get great results. It’s like any other tool, when you use it enough you learn how to get good with it.
I'm looking right now at a smooth flare made by the spin tools. It has a lip in it but that's on me for not reaming.
Achieved no loss at 350psi nitrogen and a final 60 micron level vacuum after sitting for 10 minutes. I think it works just fine.
@@sprockkets I think IF you lube the work so that there is no weld and hence no galling to make ridge it can work but people I work with make leakers which I have to go back and fix. Mini splits especially,
Fail product
👍👍
Thanks!
