The actor who played Burke took his mother to the premiere for this film and his mother cheered when Burke got killed.
That must have been confusing
@@claymccoy you believed that story?

@claymccoy it sounds like you're typical publicist or studio marketing exec BS story.

39:30 Yep the auto turrets are in this movies directors cut. As is the personal context of Ripleys time frozen in cryo which makes the bond between her and newt all the more poignant.
"Turrets"? Do you mean the Sentry Guns?
funny thing is that you can build one of those sentries these day with a mega32 or raspy quite easily, so future tech is now
You beat me to it by 6h! But, yes, exactly this. A few other scenes come to mind as well, thought perhaps those were skipped over for time, I can't be sure.
@@DrCockenballs Grid Compass 1101. who wouldnt want one of those as a kid. it could eradicate people if you just attach a gun to it
@@DrCockenballs I remember a passing reference to the Sentry Guns in the theatrical version of "Aliens." The Special Edition Laserdisc(!) of 1990 was an eye opener, with the deleted scenes adding weight to James Cameron's tale.
The fact that people can't even recognize Michael Biehn Kyle Reese/Dwayne Hicks from the previously watched picture makes him even more underrated then he already is
I am such a fan of his! Ever since Terminator in 1984. I saw him in some movies before Terminator. He's in a few background scenes in Grease. He's always next to the main jock guy.
I met him twice in the late 80s. Super nice guy! Easy to talk to, best handshake ever. He's made 2 of the best Heroes in movies history and 2 of the best Bad Guys in movie history.

Bill Paxton's quotes from this movie are legendary! My family still uses them to this day. "Game over man!" "What we gonna do now?!" "Thats great man, why don't we put her in charge!" Great actor(s)!
Absolutely great performance by Bill Paxton in this. Rest in peace Bill Paxton.
He was an absolute legend.
"Yeah, man...but it's a dry heat." Been saying this one for almost 40 years. RIP Bill.
Many of his quotes are in Starcraft, the Terran Marine unit. Ferro's also for the Dropship.

This isn't the Directors Cut, that's where you saw the turrets in the hallway!
im shocked the directors cut not the norm
I prefer the theatrical cut overall, especially for the first half of the movie, but the turret scene should have always stayed in
@@zombiespongebob6903 They call the longer cut Special Edition. Same with The Abyss and Terminator 2. I guess James Cameron does not want to make the theatrical versions seem inferior. In all 3 cases, I prefer the longer cuts. I feel they have a little more heart. But that's a matter of taste. Sometimes I might prefer a movie that flows better, with less time between action scenes.
i like the theatrical cut more.
@@zombiespongebob6903it was too long to get the required number of showings in at the theatre. All about the money.
So glad you brought up the fact 80s women were so bad ass, in fact when Jenifer Lawrence said she was the first female action actresss, Sigourney Weaver said 'thank you for paving the way'...
Such a Bad Ass!! 👏👏 We love you Ripley.
She must've learned her sick burns from Vasquez.
What makes Ellen Ripley a legitimate badass is that she's fearful and traumatized by the Aliens, but she puts herself back into the fray to confront it, and through the movie you see her overcoming it while the marines are stun locked, and SHE'S the one who takes full charge.
Great comment! Yes!!!
Empire Strikes Back, Terminator 2, and Aliens are some of the best classic sequels of all time in an era where sequels were trashy cash grabs
And The Godfather: Part 2
Maybe
@@brysonfreeman7226 I've always preferred Godfather II to the original even though I like the original.
Lots to watch!
Back to the future?
35:05
How Sigourney managed to say so much with just a simple head bob is beyond me, that scene is framed in my memory since the first time I saw it.
Agree. No words but delivers so much meaning
FR
Also, when she is in the elevator going down and she just closes her eyes for a second and you can feel her getting control of her fear before she exits the elevator.
31:45 Carrie Henn who played Newt actually ruined several shots, because she had so much fun sliding down the duct! 😆
Carrie Henn also befriended the actors in the alien costumes. The director was worried she would be traumatised in the scene when she was seized by an alien but apparently she had difficulty not laughing when her 'friend' surged up from the water.
34:25 I love this non-verbal conversation Ripley has with Her Majesty. It's like they are saying:
Ripley: Look what I can do to your babies. Let us pass.
Queen (to her soldiers): Let them pass.
The soldiers back away, then one of the eggs opens up.
Ripley: Shame on you. We had a deal.
Supposedly Paul Rieser (Burke) took his mother with him to see the premier of this movie. At his character's death she turned to him, yelling in the middle of the theater "that's what you get!!" So yes Burke is a character that not even his own mother could love.. lol
I like how the story shows where he got his sense of humor from (he was a stand-up comedian before becoming an actor).
It's a shame that you didn't watch the Director's Cut. It's not just longer, it adds a hugely pivotal focus to Ripley's character arc. It really reinforces just why she is so protective of Newt. For the life of me I have no idea why it was removed from the theatrical cut over almost anything else.
There is a little more with Newt and her family, the colonists before the Aliens get to them, and some stuff with the marines later involving sentry guns...but that bit with Ripley, that should have been in every cut of this film.
Yep that’s my bad! All I can say is sometimes we all make mistakes haha
@@LiteWeightReacting I disagree! The first time you watch a movie it should be the theatrical release. That's the way they intended you to see the movie and the way almost everyone sees it first. If you like it and want to see more of it, then watch the Director's cut with the extras.
@@TeeZee22 100% agree. Theatrical first, longer versions for a 2nd watch. Only for Blade Runner I would go to the "Final cut" directly.
I have to disagree. This one is tighter paced, even when Special Edition had some interesting scenes, it loses momentum. This cut of the film was nominated at Academy Awards. Best Editing is a category there, the editor's name was Ray Lovejoy (rip) he was also Stanley Kubrick's trusted editor. People neglect editing as an artform, longer version isn't always better. Cameron didn't even want to call it Director's Cut (he never does) but Special Edition. It's just some extra deleted footage for the fans. The "real version" was in theaters
Regarding the cut Ripley's daughter scene, I agree that it was the best of the deleted scenes. But we intuitively understand why Ripley wants a new family, a new start. She was in hyper sleep for 57 years. She is just as alone as the girl. Also mother's instinct is common in women, it doesn't really need extra explanation. Plus the kid was adorable, smart and obviously an orphan, they are equally alone and have similar trauma. And Ripley was a person of high morals, it was established in the first movie already. Why wouldn't she take her under her wing? The scene you mentioned yeah creates an even stronger link, but I never felt like something was missing without it.
@@LiteWeightReacting You missed a lot! The longer cut is what Cameron always wanted. It makes it a perfect film. More HIcks, more Hudson, yes please! Some huge character backstory with Ripley that gives her character real motivation and higher steaks for the movie.
At the end, you asked how many “Alien” movies there are…. The answer is 2. Ripley, Hicks, and Newt live happily ever after together, with Bishop repaired and living next door.
Nah, there's more then 2. There 438 movies. They are still being made today in the year 2048.
The answer is more than 2. Don't be negative and be a gatekeeper to the others.
@@DeusExMachina0000000 it's a joke

I get where you are coming from but telling someone that the almost universal opinion is that the rest of the Alien movies do not measure up is hardly gatekeeping.
The movie with the auto-turrets was THIS ONE...The Director's Cut.
Yup! Someone posted above (from my perspective) discussed some of the differences. You should definitely watch the Director's Cut, but watch the theatrical release first for sure!
IMO the only good adds to the Director's Cut are the longer hearing at the start, the auto-turrets, and "that" last scene with Burke.
When Ripley said the iconic line, "Get away from her you b***h!" I guess the whole audience cheered. I would love to have been there.
i was there. it was something to witness. The whole theater is dark and so is the movie, so you feel like you're IN the movie.
I can vouch for that. The women's cheers in the theater the night I was there , at that moment , was an incredible crescendo
I was in the theater when it was released and yes everyone cheered when she said that line coming out in the loader. It was great
not a guess, when i was there, everyone was cheering in one or the other way...
Everyone swears there are hundreds of aliens in the movie, but in fact there are only eleven shots of any aliens (not counting the queen), 10 showing only 1 alien and one shot with 3, totaling about 13 seconds of screen time. Your imagination is triggered by the motion trackers, the soldiers' cameras going staticky, and clever camera angles. Genius directing.
And Cameron had only 5 costumes for the creatures, that's why no more than five on the screen at the same time
@charlize1253 no one says that.
There is a scene where dozens and dozens are mowed down by Sentry Guns, but the aliens are conveniently off-screen most of the time (only... I think 3 are actually shown), but that's not present in this version, only in the Director's Cut.
There’s way more than 13 seconds of aliens, I’d estimate at least 30
@@HistoritorJimaldus With the exception of the Queen, almost all shots of the aliens are flash-cuts that last less than a second. Several websites have timed it, and most conclude that they're on screen for between 11 and 15 seconds.
I think "Alien" is one of the greatest movies ever made, but I LOVE "Aliens". Cameron did such a fantastic job of honoring and following the original, but made a movie that was all his own. I have seen it so many times and there are so many little details; like Gorman's redemption arc when, at the end, he and Vasquez replicate Vasquez' and Drake's handshake over the grenade.
Well said! I agree!
@@LiteWeightReacting The quality of movies in the franchise drops off sharply (how could it not), but it's worth continuing. I recommend the Director's Cut of Alien 3, as the theatrical cut was so badly hacked by the studio that the director (David Fincher who also made Seven, Fight Club, Gone Girl) disowned the movie and tried to have his name removed.
I can't wait to see Alien:Romulus, which takes place between Alien and Aliens on the timeline. The trailers look amazing.
holy shit I never noticed that about the handshake thing being similar
Oh goodness, no. Stop at Aliens. 3 is interesting, but it completely destroys the legacy of 1 and 2. It's The Last Jedi of Aliens 😂
Actor who played the Sarge was actually a combat veteran Sargent during the Vietnam war and also decorated for his service.
One of the classic lines is what Ripley says to the alien queen when she is in the loader and comes out of the big door in the spaceship
The most cheer-inducing line in cinema history?
Now, watch Sigourney Weaver again in Ghostbusters. It's a really fun series.
Literally one of the best reactions to this masterpiece I have ever seen. So adorable when your mama bear instincts come out! 🥰 awh, this movie is so good!
Glad you enjoyed it!! 😊
yeah you absolute right. loved her emotionelle reaction very much ❤
‘Game over man’, and ‘get to the chopper’ were my catchphrases growing up. Then as a teen I added kindergarten cop to my repertoire with ‘who is your daddy and what does he do’ and last action hero’s ’rubber baby buggey bumpers’. Arnold was my catchphrase goldmine
Vasquez is the same actress that played John Connor's foster mom in T2.
WOW! I never knew that and yet when I read your comment OF FUCKING COURSE!
My brain still struggles with that every time I see her.
shes also an irish mother in Titanic
@@-Markus-You say "of fucking course" but she looks completely different. That's why so many people miss that it's her. I'd say most do initially.
@@jahoodunramaYes, but she's noticeably the same actor from T2, where as the transformation when she played Vasquez was night and day. That's what surprises people.
There's an extended version that shows someone gives them the coordinates of the alien ship, Rebecca or neut's family finds the alien ship and her dad gets the 1st face hugger😮
There's also more character development for Ripley as Burke tells her something about the time while she slept and near the end, Ripley and Hicks trade first names (a GREAT scene)! The Director's Cut is the ONLY version I watch anymore.
Also I'm not sure if it's in the directors cut or a delete scene but Ripley finds Burk's body in the hive at the end before finding Neut.
I absolutely hate the director's cut and everything about those scenes. They ruin the pacing, they are unnecessary, and to top it off, there's an extra "Newt scream," in the alien ship reveal, which for me is like fingernails on a chalkboard.
You also see Newt playing with her brother. The comic showed the more gruesome scene of Newt's brother saving his sister and sacrificing himself.
@@BlackStudies Here here! It's best those scenes are left on the cutting room floor - totally agree that they ruin the pacing. The plotline with Ripley's daughter is the only thing worth keeping there, imho, but the film still works fine without it as "Ripley finds a reason to live again because of Newt."
Sigourney Weaver is just an amazing actress. That scene in the elevator where she mentally prepares herself to face her fears is so well acted. You can tell that she is terrified, yet she pushes those feelings away to get the job done. Just fantastic.
When Newt says “It won’t make any difference.” - so ominous!
in the novel she adds "...they take you no matter who you are..." and it gave me the super-chills!
If Bill Paxton's headstone doesn't say "Game over man, game over" I'm disappointed
I do love that burn... "You ever been mistaken for a man?" No. Have you?" it never gets old.
Fun fact: Paul Reiser, who plays Burke, took his mom to the premiere with him. She cheered at his death. That is good acting, when someone who loves the actor hates the role so much she cheered his death.
As last words go... "You always here an a-hole gorman" isn't bad.
Mummy V. Mum... Ripley is definitely a match for Alien Mother.
The fact you got so invested in a MOVIE from Decades ago... shows how goo this movie is. The Extended cut had the turrets you described. The first 2 are the best but there are many others... kind of worth seeing for experience but do not get your hopes up for the "quality" of the story.
The line where Newt says "I'm scared" and Ripley simply replies with "Me too"... she is so damned cool lol
31:40 Fun fact: Newt (Carrie Henn) couldn't shoot the scene where she sits down into the sewers without giggling or laughing. James Cameron promised that if sh did the scene right, she could play on it the rest of the day. They got the shot on the next take.
Are you telling us a child had fun on a horror movie set? That is good news. We, the audience, were all traumatized by the movie... :)
6:12 It still amazes me that Jenette Goldstein (Vasquez) is the same woman who plays John Connor's foster mother in "Terminator 2" and the Irish mother in "Titanic".
I thought that. She looks so 1980’s in Terminator - I think it’s the hair! 😂
Fun fact: Vasquez is also John Connor's step mom from Terminator 2. She is one of James Cameron favorite actresses. She was also the Irish mommy in Titanic. This was her first role.
Also - you can catch glimpses of Miles Dyson as one of the Marines.
"We're in the pipe, five by five." Lives rent free in my head to this day.
Back around 1995 me and my buddy had a month where we only rented movies that had Bill Paxton in them.
Great reaction!
"Mommy!" always gets me....
I still remember when I watched this the first time when we'd binge on 6-8 movies in the late '80s after a trip to the video store. My sister refused to watch Aliens, but when she came into the rec room and said "What are you watching? Oh". She stood in the doorway and watched the rest of the movie. She couldn't bring herself to sit down, but also couldn't stop watching.
This film's special edition includes a reference to Ripley's daughter, who died while she(Ripley) was drifting in space.
The queen reveal is one of the best scenes in movie history. Absolutely hostoric.
The automatic turrets in the hallway that you remember is in the Director's Cut of this movie.
You saw through Burke's bullshit a lot sooner than most people.
Did not like Burke from the start hahaha
Lot of people knew Paul Reiser as a "nice guy" actor. When you have no expectations you can see that Burke is a weasel.
In one of these reaction videos they didn’t see Burke’s betrayal coming at all. It was pretty funny.
Hard to believe that Carrie Henn's portrayal of Newt was her only acting role. She went on to become a teacher.
Given how badly child stars tend to end up, I'm glad she got out of there asap.
That said, Newt is my favorite character in the whole movie, with Vasquez coming in second place, and Ripley third.
I absolutely adore how emotional you get in your reactions; it makes them so authentic :)
I saw this in the theatre back in the day. When Ripley walked out in the exo-suit the crowd went wild. Everyone stood up and cheered. Awesome.
Back in the day I had the board game. I loved that the game allowed for plot points to be played out differently (such as it was difficult, but not impossible, for Spunkmeyer/ Ferro to survive the alien attack, which meant from that point the remaining survivors would have access to all the weapons and ammo that were on the dropship). During the later alien attack, it was also possible to try and convince Burke (again, high difficulty) to open the door which would save time in the escape from Operations. I think you had two turns to convince him before he would run away, but that meant two wasted turns if he doesn't listen.
As an alternative strategy, the game manual suggested to fire a grenade down the corridor at the door. Burke goes BOOM, door goes BOOM. Problem solved. They called it the 'Let's Nuke Burke' option :)
theres a pretty great newer boardgame for Alien called Legendary: Alien (i think.. i have it, but its buried in a closet) where you can play a cinematic version of each of the first three movies. :)
Also, theres a fantastic RPG also called Alien RPG that is an absolutely amazing time if youre at all into tabletop roleplaying games.

Not to get political, but I hate when people (Disney, I am looking at you) say men just don’t like strong women. Please! The entire production of Aliens was in 1985 in London, Pinewood Studios. The CGI (Computer-Generated Imagery) wasn´t develop yet. All special effects was made by miniatures, camera tricks, but some of them was real (the tank and the power loader) . Aliens and Terminator 2 (1991) both are the best sequels all of times. James Cameron knew how make it.
The first and second are so good...

@@polhokustaa4989the theatrical release really isn’t but the extended version is actually pretty good
Carrie Hinn or Newt kept laughing and enjoying the slide down the shift so much that it took way more takes than it should of.
The facehugger scene in medical is genuinely the most riveting piece of cinema ever created.
In the extended version you see where Ripley has to deal with the loss of her own daughter because she had been gone so long. It helps reinforce the bond she develops with Newt. The automatic turrets were also a part of this movie. They cut it for the theatrical release. A little character note....Vasquez is Janelle the foster mom in Terminator 2. The alien intelligence is helped by the way they use the host DNA in their development.
Great reaction. :-)
Not that I am trying to defend 'the company', but Burke knew about the 'acid for blood' because Ripley had informed them about it at that 'board meeting' near the beginning of the film (the one where she asked "Did IQs just drop sharply while I was away?").
Since there was no (publicly made known...) distress call, this species likely tickled the company long before Ripley was found. It may also be the reason the company deliberately assigned such an inexperienced leader to investigate, and only 2 squads worth of marines! 🤔
@@petersonchan9250 You could be right, but all we know for _certain_ (about the company knowing there was "acid for blood") is that Ripley informed the company ti that effect as part of her report to them in that 'board meeting', or in written form before it met with her.
"Ok movie ends, they fall in love and make a little family unit and all is good. The end."

I said, “I know she’s not traditionally attractive, but I was thoroughly attracted to her character.” He thinks about it for a bit, and says “I get that..” 😂 love that kid. It’s her ability to survive that I love. There are some flaws in this movie but good lord it was made in 1986. Also James Horner is brilliant.
If it hasn't been commented yet, the knife scene with Bill Paxton (Hudson) and Lance Henriksen (Bishop) was Lance actually doing the trick. He practiced and actually got that fast at it! And everyone on set knew they were gonna put Hudson's hand under Bishops...except Bill Paxton. That is a genuine reaction
Absolute BS. You can see the speedup of the film clearly when looking at the movements of the other actors, especially Apone's head.

Good connection for this channel.
There are two versions of "Aliens" - the theatrical cut which is about 17 minutes shorter and the director's cut which has the 17 minutes of footage put back into it. The director's cut is said to be James Cameron's definitive and preferred cut to see his intended vision. The director's cut basically has the extended and more complete scenes of the survivors setting up base in the ruins of the colony and looking through everything that they were able to salvage from the APC wreckage and the dropship wreckage (right after the xenomorph unfortunately killed the pilot of the first dropship - Cpl. Ferro). The audience is shown the surviving marines, Ripley, Newt and Burke discuss everything that they were able to salvage including additional weapons and equipment, which included a number of UA 571-C automated sentry guns with displays intact. The audience also gets a more complete scene of Hudson and Vasquez deploying these sentry guns in the hallways and testing their tracking and firing by Hudson throwing a bucket or something in front of the guns only to have the turrets shoot it to bits. Then Hudson and Vasquez get back inside and seal the door. You should really see the director's cut. It's the best version. Here are a number of the deleted scenes, including the scenes that you're thinking of, for your enjoyment.

This movie is hands down the BEST sequel ever made. Badass from start to finish.
The special edition gives more back story to both Ripley and Newt, and gives Ripley's motivation to protect her more weight.
You're missing out by not watching the longer 'Special Edition' version. The auto turrets are in the special edition. Alien 3 has much to like, but over all most people feel it's a let down. If you watch Alien 3 make sure you watch the restored cut. Alien 4 has one cut only. Then there's the Alien vs Predator stuff, but make sure you see Predator 1 and 2 first!
My bad!
@@LiteWeightReacting If you watch 3, be prepared to see Hicks and Newt die in the opening credits, Ripley land in a prison colony with murderers and r*pists, almost get r*ped, and then die. And there's a magic alien egg on the Sulaco, which shows up out of nowhere, and breaks continuity. Which means it doesn't really follow Aliens, and the entire story depends on it. Without that magic egg, there's no movie. Now you can avoid it. You're welcome.
So now you've finally watched it. My bombshell is that the badass "Velasquez" is the same woman that played John Connor's mom in Terminator 2, who was kind of frumpy. Such a different character!
Bishop stayed true until the end. He never wavered from his purpose.
“Auto turrets” are in this one
That’s the “Director’s Edition”
Epic!!!
A must watch!
And stop here, for the Alien franchise
The auto turrets scene is an additional scene from the extended version. (For me the best version) In that version they talk about Amanda Ripley, Ellen Ripley's daughter, that's why you better understand Ellen's maternal instinct with Newt among other things. Greetings from Spain.
Greetings from NY! Thanks for pointing that out!
"Turrets"? Those were Sentry Guns.
@@Otokichi786 🙄 What were the sentry guns mounted on?

"Is There One Where They Set Up Automated Turrets That Shoots The Hallway?"
Yes, that's the Director's Cut of Aliens that you're referring to, Teagan
I saw the original Alien on opening weekend in 1979. Was blown away by it! But when Aliens premiered in 1986, my mind was REALLY blown away and these two movies will forever be enshrined as my favorite cinematic adventures.
Everybody gives Hudson a lot of shit because he's high-strung...like really high-strung. We'll give you that.
Who got into the colony computer system? Who found the colonists? Never mind how that turned out; who found them? In Medical, who JUMPED IN FRONT OF THE KID at extreme risk to his own life? At the end, knowing he was about to die in a gruesome manner, who bought the rest of the team a chance to survive with all the badassery in the world?
Private Hudson. Put some respect on his name.
Ripley was one of the all time great heroes of cinema. People who say there are no female heroes in movies dont know jack. The best ones are female. Ripley, Leia, Sarah Connor etc
Hell yeah 🎉🎉🎉 some of the greatest characters in cinema (and literature) are female. None of this woke shit
The xeno emerging from the water behind Newt is one of the most awesome shots in cinema
This film came out when i was in college and the knife trick was tried by many drunk college kids, mostly with pens but there were still a lot of hurt hands.
The Special Edition / Director's Cut has many important scenes missing from this one, and also includes the Sentry Turrets you mentioned.
"Turrets"? Those were Sentry Guns.
No, it only has one important scene missing (Ripley's daughter). Everything else was rightly left on the cutting room floor.
39:54 No there is no 3rd one 😉. Just as there's no 3rd or 4th or umpteenth terminator 😂.
This is how it goes.
Alien.
Aliens.
Alien 3 and Alien resurrection destroy what mythos was built in Alien and Aliens. They are not completely terrible movies but they take Ripleys character down a depressing and disappointing road. A huge fall from the underestimated badass character she was in the first 2 movies.
Watch the first 5 minutes of alien 3 and you'll realise that the biggest villain of the movie is the damn screenwriter. An absolute travesty.
Then there's 2 Alien vs Predator movies which are worth watching to see how they went about the crossover but make no mistake, pure money grab movies. Unrelated to Ripleys story.
Then there's the 2 Ridley Scott prequels, Prometheus and Alien covenant. Alien was Ridley Scott's baby so you should watch these prequels.
The scene in the locked room when the scanner is going off is such extteme suspense. The payoff shot of the aliens advancing in the ceiling is so crazy.
39:30 As stated in another comment, the Director's cut has the hallway/gun scene. It also has a scene when Ripley is running through the station and is grabbed by Burke who has been impregnated with an alien...rather fitting, wouldn't you say? lol
The sequel is much better than the first one.
It was so good!!
please don't watch any other Alien movie. These will probably destroy what you just have seen, they do not exist.
"I say we send Burke out as tribute..." I absolutely died 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Oh and BTW …. I love watching your reactions… they’re great too😊…. You’re so honest and genuine.
Can’t wait for the next one 👍😎
That "mommy!" hits so different once you're a mom.
I can well imagine :nods: As a man, that part where they are trapped in medical and Newt says "Break it , break it!" in that scared voice as Ripley tries to get them out ... oh boy does that fire up the protector genes!
Aliens is one of the perfect movies, for character development, for horror, and for action.
Burke the company man who screws over everyone for more money and gets his karma
Hudson for being the pessimist and coming through as a tough marine
Hicks being the competent NCO who takes charge
Bishop for redeeming androids in Ripley's eyes
Gorman for going back to get Vasquez instead of being the coward officer
and of course. Ellen Ripley -- one of the classic heroines of our time. When someone says there were no leading strong women in movies until the modern era I always go back to Ellen Ripley. Classic badass. Losing her daughter to age and then gaining a daughter in Newt. When Newt calls her mommy at the end it makes me tear up every time.
Your commentary on female heroes of the 80s is spot on. WELL WRITTEN and NOT FORCED on the audience.
