To steal from a show from the 80s " butterfly in the sky I can go twice as high take a look its in a book" I hope you enjoy the books as much as youve allowed us to RE enjoy these movies your a special kinda flower kid
I don't know what the choir in ALL the songs are singing but I've been told that when Aragorn leads the charge into the army at the black gate the choir there sings (in sindarin,) they say "If by my life or death I can protect you, I will" which was Aragorn's promise to Frodo when he swore his sword to the fellowship.
A minor detail I rarely see mentioned. The ring is at its most powerful at the place it was forged, i.e. Mount Doom, the only place it can be destroyed. Within Mount Doom, the ring's power is near absolute, and even the strongest will cannot resist it. Which means, once the ring is in the place it can be destroyed, there is no person that could destroy it. It practically makes the ring invincible. Falling by accident is essentially the only way the ring could have been destroyed, making Gollum's role as critical to the journey as Frodo's.
This has been one of my favorite watch-throughs of this series, you picked up on so many great story details that a lot of people miss the first time around. So glad you enjoyed and shared with everyone!
The laugh-crying gets old real fast.
Tolkien writing PTSD into his story, because of his own feeling of emptiness (some of which writing the Lord of the Rings probably filled) after coming back from war.
Faramir would’ve informed Gandalf that Sméagol was with Sam and Frodo.
1:11:26 merry and pippin were also buried next to king Elessar (Aragorn) as well 🥹
Sam is the absolute MVP.
1:09:00 that's "the mouth of sauron"
I don’t think I’ve ever seen any have such a combo of crying/laughing
Gandalf had spoken to Faramir. ("This isn't the first Hobbit you encountered"). So he knew Gollum was with Frodo and Sam.
Your Hair Looks Great.. You are very pretty woman. Its your personality, humor, kindness & warmth that Makes You BEAUTIFUL.. 😎
The pig faced orc is rumored to be based on Harvey Heinstein
"You bow to no one" And for a moment, the Hobbits were the tallest in middle earth
I hate frodo, he fucks up All threw the movies and constantly needs to be saved. Someone should of killed him and took the ring to destroy it..
Some more emotive things you could react to: Chernobyl (the 2019 miniseries); The Hobbit movies; War of the Rohirrim (when it finally comes out on physical).
On your hypothetical about Sméagol being allowed on the ship to the undying lands: Given his aversion to everything elvish, I doubt he would accept a seat on the ship. Bilbo and Frodo were pure hearted and would left to go heal from the effects of their trauma. I don’t think Sméagol, who was evil hearted from the beginning, would have been able to heal- especially not in an elvish world. Just my opinion.
58:35 the reason merry and eowyn get hurt is because of something called the black breath after stabbing the witch king. Plus eowyn says "I am no man". That refers to what Gandalf previously said that no man can kill the witch king. And sometime during the second age the witch king was at war with the northern kingdom of arnor which he in the end destroyed so badly that there is only ruins of left. At the end of the battle of fornost the witch king came out on the battlefield and earnur who wasn't king at that moment wanted to fight him but his horse was so frightened of the witch king it fled with earnur still on it. So the witch king laughed a terrible laugh and mocked him. Then Glorfindel (and elf who also defeated a balrog at the cost of his life to help others escape just like gandalf. That's one of the reasons he also got sent back more powerful than before) came and the witch king stopped laughing and fled. Earnur wanted to go after him but Glorfindel told him not to do that and that the witch king's death would not come by the hand of man. So after eowyn kills the witch king, Glorfindel's prophecy is fulfilled. Plus in when the witch king encounters Gandalf, Shadowfax doesn't flee because he's a total badass and reeks of awesomeness 😎
You're the first reactor to mention the 3 eagles. Yes, Gandalf had hoped that Gollum would have been saved. Very interesting question about Gollum going to the un-dieing lands...
Good that you noticed that Minas Tirith was a fortress. Its name actually means "Tower of Guard". The ruined city on the River was the old Capital of Gondor - Osgiliath. Minas Morgul was originally called Minas Ithil (Tower of the Moon) before evil conquered it and it was renamed Minas Morgul (Tower of Sorcery). The original name of Minas Tirith was changed then also, from Minas Arnor (Tower of the Sun) to Tower of Guard. Arnor was the name of the fallen Northern Kingdom, so it was the "Kingdom of the Sun".
no way you cut off sam's monologue
Faramir would have told Gandalf that Smeagol was guiding Frodo and Sam. The third eagle was, as you thought, to rescue Smeagol if he had survived and been able to be saved. The palantir, the seeing stone, was being used as a means of communication by Sauron and Saruman. It was via the palantir that Saruman had been corrupted; the connection to Sauron was as toxic as the Ring. This film reduced Denethor to a cartoon villain. That's one of my very few disappointments with Peter Jackson. In the book Denethor was much more nuanced - once you've read the books, he will make more sense to you.
Perry the platypus! Phineas and Ferb!
I think your reaction to the ending was the best I've ever seen. I loved watching you watch these amazing movies. The story can be life changing ❤
Essential viewing with the movies is to watch Gollums MTV Awards acceptance speech
Well Lady , one more charge ..... ⚔ got a feeling we are going to have to say R.I.P to your eye make up
Listen im no lotr triva master i would say im a avg fan for knowing the details of the back stories but why doesnt Aragon use the ghosts to wipe out Mordor? I mean sure Gondor is "his city" but u destroy the ring u destroy the entire Orc army so why waste the cheat code to save 1 city rather then all middle earth?😂 if u save Gondor but the ring survives they will just rebuild the Orc army?
You kept making comments about the wonderful music. Just FYI, they do a concert series where orchestras play the music live with a big screen playing certain scenes from the movies.
The Lord of the Rings is the epitome of "It's about the journey, not the destination."
In case nobody else mention it: Cristopher Lee was a spy during WWII (and the only one who knew Tokien in person), and he corrected Peter Jackson and the crew about how a stab really sounds... total gangsta
Where did you get that sweater?? It's sick!
I love that almost exhausted note in the music when Rohan appears at the battle.
Frodo is weak even at the end Sam should be the ring bearer
Faramir could have told Gandalf about Smeagol's part in the story.
The choir singing is actually not english. Tolkien had a passion for languages (Professor, hello!) and had actually created several languages that you can hear throughout the films. He also loved songs and had written many poems in many of these languages, several of which were used for the choir and the soundtrack. Other poems were also written by the film writing team and translated into those languages, then sang by the choir for the films. Funny how they fit this world so well, because they literally are from this world and the languages spoken within it.
i would give anything to watch the lord of the rings for the first time again...
You definitely need to watch the Hobbit 😊....they are not as good as this but it's the next best thing
Sam is the hero of the story. At the end of the first film as the pair separate from the Fellowship Frodo tells Sam, "I'm glad you're with me." After destroying the Ring and expecting to perish on it's molten slopes Frodo tells Sam, "I'm glad to be with you."
I also laugh every time everyone bows to the Hobbits and Frodo is standing there knowing damn well he tried to keep the ring lmao
In the cartoon of The Return Of The King by Rankin and Bass there is a wonderful speech by Gandalf right before he leaves on the elven ship that I wish they had incorporated it into this film that would have made the scene a bit better. Also, I've never read the Rings books, only The Hobbit when I was a kid many years ago, but in the cartoon for The Lord Of The Rings, the steward of Gondor had a palantir and through that he saw the extent of the incredibly massive army that was going to come for them. So, seeing that army made him lose all hope and that, coupled with the insanity he was starting to suffer from, kind of explains why he acted like he did. And again from the cartoon, the killing of the witch king was more impactful. In this, he had the woman beat. It took the help of a male hobbit to give her the opening to say her "I am no man" line and kill him. In the cartoon, she just did it on her own.
When I stumbled upon your channel, it began with Lord of the Rings. I began watching other youtubers react to Lord of the Rings and then watched their channels other reaction videos. Your channel was suggested to me from their channels. I had always hoped to see you react to The Lord of the Rings and to hear your thoughts on it. You quickly became my favorite reaction channel after only a few videos. I was soo excited when you took on Band of Brothers and then discovered you started Lord of the Rings in between Band of Brothers. This journey has been amazing for me to watch you enjoy this and feel what we've felt soo long ago. This film holds a special place in all of our hearts. We quote this series whenever we go through hard times. Considering how motivational and beautiful the quotes are. Thank you for all you do and cannot wait to see what's next after Band of Brother's. Hopefully The Hobbit movies. Welcome to the Middle Earth Fandom!
Are you going to watch the Hobbit trilogy?
Something sad to think about...at the end when Gandalf came to rescue Frodo and Sam with the eagles he came with 3 eagles because he believed that smeagol was with them and helped them ...he also believed in redemption
Now imagine watching the whole trilogy for the first time in the cinema back in the day...
Merry's reaction to Mount Doom exploding always gets me.
1:11:00...chills every time ...Sam was to true hero
Frodo doesn’t know Legolas’s name 😂😂😂😂😂
I’ve seen this movie so much and I’m still crying!!!
Sam came in clutch.
