Still, when it was in development it was billed as the biggest part of Brawl - Brawl seemed like it was less Smash Bros and more Subspace with Smash Bros tacked on.
Actually, as he stated in the Safe Roster video, Jiggilypuff was nearly cut in not only Brawl, but in Smash 4 as well. It seems like she's on thin ice with the Smash devs, She seems safe but the ice could crack at any moment...
I hope not. I remember hearing Ness almost got cut in Smash 4, like how he almost got cut in Melee too. Smash wouldn't feel the same without the original 12.
Jigglypuff is a mainstay at this point. Lucario and Mewtwo were also irrelevant in Smash 4's time, but he made it in. Ness, Lucas, and Captain Falcon have been irrelevant for as long as Jiggs, and don't even get me started on R.O.B, Mr. Game and Watch, and Duck Hunt. Being old doesn't preclude you from being in Smash if you've been there before.
I'd actually love to see a *Mii Spellcaster.* Sure, the gunner used some moves from magic users, like Ness and Zelda, but I feel like that wasn't enough. Seeing as the mage is usually the class I chose in these types of games, I'd totally be down for one. I'm also a supporter of *Ridley.* I know the rep-argument isn't something the devs care about, but Ridley is just so iconic on his own, I feel like. Plasma-Breath, bouncing on his spiked tail and hitting opponents with it and his talons would also make for an interesting moveset in my opinion. Sure, there's the argument of him being too big, but sizing him down worked in Melee's opening as well. While I wouldn't mind having *Geno* that much, I just feel he'd have a strange presence in the game, just because he only appeared once in a game that came out ages ago. I do love Super Mario RPG (all of the Mario RPGs actually), so I'm always happy for it to get some recognition. But it'd just be strange seeing Geno over more known Mario characters like Toad, Waluigi or Kamek, if you catch my drift. *Steve* is incredibly well-known and still somewhat relevant. Not to mention his moveset-potential is huge since there's so much to do in Minecraft. I do like Minecraft as a game myself (even if most of its community is just kids). I don't think he's likely (this is the wild roster after all), but I would certainly not mind seeing Steve in. There's also the fact that so many people would get pissed for including him, which is a scenario I'm not opposed to either. :D And wouldn't it be cool if there was an option to make your own skin for Steve to play as? I'm thinking of something like the emblems in Mario Kart DS. You probably wouldn't be able to use them online though. I'm just afraid that if *Paper Mario* were to get in, he'd only use moves from Sticker Star and Colour Splash. This might sound incredibly spiteful, but I'd rather not have him in at all instead of like that. Until we get a Paper Mario game that returns to the old charm of the series, I'd want Paper Mario out of Smash Bros. *Bandana Dee* being my top one character I want to see in this game, it does make me happy to see him on both rosters.
The difference is that Geno is a Mario character, whereas G&W and R.O.B. weren't from any series that's already in Smash. Not sure how Sakurai and his team view this, but I personally think that puts him in a bit of a different spot.
Same I want more Mii fighter customization. And yeah, watched Delzthins Paper Mario Moveset and despite him selling it as an alternate Mario move set based on the fact that he's paper (which if done right would still have been leaning a little to heavily into modern Paper Mario IMO) it ended up being this super generic move set that barely references anything from paper Mario except the most asinine stuff from modern Paper Mario. I don't want paper Mario in the game if it's gonna be more of Nintendo shoving that down our throats.
Really cool to see how accurate both rosters were in the end, interesting the many faces that missed their chance this time who would have made it in recent events, and sad to see the ones that'll probably never get a chance again
WwwWario No, he is not really relevant in anything Mario, Luigi, or Wario related and has only been relegated to spin-offs. Until he shows up in something like a Mario platformer, Luigi's Mansion, Wario Land, or WarioWare I doubt his chances.
Lucario is an odd pick now since he isn't near as relevant as he used to be. Mewtwo would probably make it over him. Though, I think this dude picked cool playstyles over prominent characters for this.
Allegryan I I unironically want Sans in Smash, and I kind of hate myself for it. Still though, telekinesis, bones, Gaster Blasters, lightweight, owing to his lack of health points, fast, owing to his constant dodging, there’s enough to make a character out of all that.

I like that you called this wild, because so many choices you make here seem so ridiculous. I mean, no Meta Knight on the base? I do like this list though, and I would have absolutely no issues if literally all of this were to happen. I sincerely doubt it, but still.
Yeah, the problem with most of the choices on this list is that he dismisses so many other fighters believeing them to be DLC. Thus making the base rooster a lot weaker and the choices have more weight (which some failed to deliver, *cough Elma and Ridley *cough). This was a good video but kinda disappointing.
Ironically, Celica and Ridley saved this roster for me. Also, yeh, he did mean free updates like Splatoon 2, but I'd rather NOT have a roster that has less characters than Smash 4 from the start. N64 8-12 Melee 14-25 Brawl 25-38 WiiU/3ds 41-58 I just don't understand why every prediction video thinks Smash is going to have less than 70 characters. I know it's more of an opinion and nothing's really a fact, but these numbers are so consistent throughout the series. I think there would be 70 at least, starting out with almost as much as SSB4 is so weak if it's a "new" game. Judging by that pattern too, Smash seems to start you out with more characters than the previous game. Also, sorry if I sound highly negative! It's my own fault for literally screaming when I saw that the second part was uploaded, but I just wasn't too fond with the roster due to the reasons y'all stated. I always enjoy the videos though, and his quality. This guy does great work. I just wish I didn't come to this video with high expectations, specially since everyone has different opinions.
My beef isn't with Minecraft itself, but the with Steve. Steve isn't a character. He is a placeholder model that was kept in the final game. He was named Steve when Notch was asked an offhand question in a panel of what to name the default player model. He is literally an empty husk of a character. We can have a Minecraft stage if you really want to rep Minecraft. But Steve is not a character. Thankfully, I think Sakurai has good enough taste to agree with me and most other people.
Pokemon Trainer didn't exist I guess? You can also say this about the characters that are a member of a species like the Pokemon or Yoshi (if that yoshi is the "main" yoshi we always see) Villager, ROB, Robin, and Corrin also throw this argument out of the window. You can kinda say the same for Game and Watch to an extent

I really have to disagree with the updated animations part of Steve. I mean, it really sounds unnecessary when Mr. Game & Watch exists. Not to mention, Steve can perform all of his moves in his very own game just fine, so getting rid of one of Steve's defining features really would be a bad move, especially since Sakurai always seems to go for the most classic rendition of characters, especially third parties, with examples being Mega Man and Pacman.

Personally, I would prefer Steve. It would just seem like a "what in the world? that sounds cool!" kind of character. Sans would be a "what in the world? what is he doing here?!" kind of character. An Undertale rep wouldn't be as well received as a Minecraft rep, mostly because of fanbases and popularity issues.
well this is suppose to be a much more wild/risky roster that is set with a different circumstance. Some of these options for how the roster is played and newcomers are meant to be wild while the previous roster was for more grounded,realistic and safer options.

Hm...interesting ideas here. While I'm not on board with the chances of some of these, there's arguments to be made for them. Starting from the top of the roster and going vertically downward (that you spoke of in this video): Geno: I would LOVE for Geno to get in. The guy's fanbase needs a lot more love than it seems to have gotten. He's got plenty of moveset potential and certainly has Sakurai's attention. This issue comes from Square themselves. Honestly, I'd think they'd want to put someone in from one of their other franchises first before they went with Geno, like maybe Erdrick or one of the other Dragon Quest characters or (dare I say it) Sora. Still, Geno's likely to be the most requested of any Square characters that get included Ridley: Hello there old friend. Truthfully, I've wanted Ridley since the first time I even knew Smash Speculation was a thing. I honestly would love to see him in. I think Sakurai and company could work him in if given the time and the opportunity. Thing is, Ridley's probably the most divisive (or second most divisive counting Steve) newcomer you have on the list. People would either love to see him in and praise Sakurai for years on end or despise Sakurai for putting him in at all and "breaking his own rules" (because the internet is like that). Now, if this were handled like Splatoon or ARMS, I could see Ridley coming later with more time given certainly. But for now...eh. Celica: Celica does come from the most recent Fire Emblem game (or second most recent counting Fire Emblem Warriors). So I could see her getting the possible nod. But there's a ton of other Fire Emblem characters that people likely have picked as better options than Celica herself. Hector, Lyn, Alm, Macaiah, all of them are possible options. So Celica's not only dealing with people not wanting more Fire Emblem characters, but also dealing with other possible Fire Emblem characters that would want that spot. That being said, Celica offers more than most of them have, so it is possible she gets in. We'll just have to wait and see, I suppose Elma: Honestly, the issue with Elma would be timing. Elma has plenty of ways to make a moveset for her and she would be a heck of a lot of fun. Buuuuut the timing of her game's release is the issue. From what I've been told, Xenoblade Chronicles X did do better than the original, but then Xenoblade 2 just came and said "Hold my Beer" and surpassed both in sales. So Rex and Pyrra would likely get the opportunity first. Elma's window is closing, but it's not closed completely...yet Steve: Hoooooooo boy. THIS guy. I have no hatred towards Minecraft, don't get me wrong. And Steve could certainly be a great option for younger players thanks to how popular it is. And Microsoft's ownership of Mojang hasn't hampered the fact that Minecraft has been on Nintendo consoles and done well. But...well, the problem is two things. First: How willing would Nintendo be to put Steve in anyway. The thing with Steve is that he's created by a Western Developer, and that same problem is what hurts Shovel Knight's chances. I don't even know how popular Minecraft is over in Japan. And second: Does Steve have enough support in the community (via the Smash Ballot, which they said would influence later Smash roster decisions) to warrant a spot. I mean, there's plenty of uniqueness to Steve to make an interesting moveset, but the question is whether or not there's enough support both from within Nintendo and within the community to warrant Steve's inclusion. Out of all the characters on here, I think Steve's chances are the lowest, but he's still got a chance and we'll see how well he does Mii Spellcaster: Yes
Internet's backlash to Ridley would not "Sakurai breaking his own rules". The biggest assault would be "They didn't do his justice" or "He is not MY Ridley!". Like they do for Ganondorf for about ten years. And Wario.

The thing with Elma being higher than Rex/Pyra was the whole Sakurai buying the robot model, which leads Elma as a more viable canidate than Rex/Pyra - after all, it's easier to work a character in when the game is already out than when it was likely still in development when he was making the roster. "I don't even know how popular Minecraft is over in Japan." Well I know it's popular with Nintendo... Geez, so many Minecraft focused videos in the Nintendo News Channel on the Switch (I have a Japanese account to check the eShop) I actually had to turn that channel off on my Switch just to not get bombarded with the same two Japanese guys playing Minecraft over and over again. Other than that, agree with the comment. Not sure how Sora's chances over Geno would be - Given Sora is owned by Disney, but given that all Sakurai needs to do is ask Nomura - Ehhhh...
Mike has it quite difficult to appear because he is a Western-Only character. Nintendo would put Takamaru, Ayumi Tachibana, Lip, Donbe and Hikari, Saki Amamiya, Goku (YuYuKi's), Sutte Hakkun and many other Japan-Only characters before him. As a detail, the Spanish speakers who were born from 2000 onwards could say that they got Elrubius (A very popular Spanish RUclipsr). In spite of that, he would be a good inclusion.

It really surprises that at present, in actual boom of the visual novels, Nintendo has not been encouraged to revive this series and bring it to the West (More for the enormous potential it has). And I agree, it is quite likely that we will see Ayumi in this new installment; and she has many points to validate her inclusion: -Her series is quite loved in Japan (And maybe it has a cult in America and Europe). -She would be the first playable character from a visual novel, a genre that has not yet been represented beyond the trophies. -It would be the opportunity for her to be famous in the rest of the world, opening the possibility of a Tantei Club Part IV (Or remakes of the 3 previous games). -Her inclusion would be an excellent way to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Tantei Club series (1988-2018). -She has the bonus that Masahiro Sakurai is a fan of her saga.
This was honestly pretty good for a wild roster, and pretty entertaining to watch! Though, as a Kirby nut myself, I'm honestly curious why you cut Meta Knight out of the roster and included Bandana (Waddle) Dee regardless. I was almost thinking you'd keep the original trio and not include Bandana Dee at all (despite me wanting him in so much), but seeing it like this, although understandable due to the Smaller Base Roster reason, made it feel go wild in a direction I did not expect. Regardless, the wait for this was worth it! I really hope your pains will disappear eventually, and I wish you good luck! You deserve the views and subscribers you have, if not more! :)

Lyn uses bows too, but otherwise she isn't really different from Marth. Celica would be hot and likewise with my boy Sigurd, whom have a niche of Magic and a Horse respectively.
All Fire Emblem characters, like Pokémon are just flavors of the day. Cool for a little while, but ultimately replaceable. In contrast, there's Mario, Link, and Pikachu. We call them Nintendo's All-Stars.
Both of these videos were awesome. I really like the way you said how steve from minecraft can get in. Most people really don’t like minecraft that much. I really see Steve getting in, and it isn’t a bad thing. Some people just have the wrong idea.

JoJo337_ I think Ganondorf is in need of a new moveset than Sheik. Sheik is already very good as she is. New final smash I can see, but new moveset is unlikely. I do like her Hyrule Warriors design.
So far, your predictions for returners in the Safe video were not only confirmed but didn't even go far enough, and your "wild" prediction for Ridley was also confirmed. Just goes to show that, doesn't matter how many predictions are made, Nintendo will always find ways to surprise you and keep you guessing!

I'm surprised no one considers Tiki or Anna when Fire Emblem characters come up in these prediction videos. I mean, yeah, they never get top billing in their games (spin-offs aside), but they're practically mascots of the series by this point, trumping practically everyone else in both canon and non-canon appearances, ESPECIALLY Anna, if we're not explicitly talking about playable appearances. Not to mention, everyone complains about the prominence of sword-wielders in Smash, especially FE reps, and neither one of them does; Anna's history includes bows and an ax (not to mention that "waifu" factor the franchise really loves milking, nowadays), and Tiki's small size, combined with her nature as a Manakete and lack of any other weapons could really make for a unique character that strongly represents the more magical side of her franchise. Maybe they're not as popular as say, Lynn or Hector, but they're definitely my top picks as FE reps. Also, just throwing it out there, if that robot figure IS connected to Smash, and not a new, original project, it's likely for CustomRobo. Also, ALSO, very bold Mii Spellcaster choice! Glad I wasn't the only one to think of it!
Glad number of appearances was my least relevant point, then. This comment did make me chuckle, though :) Dunsparce doesn't have popularity or central relevance to his franchise anywhere close to Lucario's, whereas Ana certainly does when compared to the likes of Robin and Marth. Like I said, Anna's relevance AND number of appearances practically makes her a series mascot, and she even takes center-stage in a spinoff title to drive home how beloved she is. Heck, FE Awakening was intended to be the franchise's swan song, and they specifically took the time to make her playable and even flesh out her character more than in the past because they knew how much fans would appreciate it. Not saying it's likely, but definitely worthy of consideration.
I really want Henry from Awakening to be added. Partially because I really like his character, but mostly because I think he could have a really interesting moveset. They could use his liking for crows, his backstory involving a wolf, and his magic spells.
I so agree with you on Steve. Even if I, and most of my friends won't care about him and probably will even backlash against him, you're right. The gaming world is changing constantly, and like it or not, Steve is one of the biggest icons in all of gaming, from one of the biggest games out there. And you can dislike him all you want, but do you think kids care about Cloud? There is nothing wrong with appealing to all kinds of gamers from all generations and demographics. And Steve has definitely worked his way up the ranks, to the point where I would rank him with Mario, Pac-Man and Sonic. My grandma won't recognise 95% of the Smash roster, but she'll recognise Steve. And if you feel like a gaming icon needs to be super old and have history, no, no they don't. Gaming icons can come from all generations. Mario and Pac-Man are icons, but so is Pikachu and many consider Cloud one too. And I would say the Miis are iconic too, with the success the Wii had. Age does not define status. Steve is definitely not on my priority list, but if he does get in, he'll have my support.

okay so consider this, Steve's down special is a crafting table that he uses, it gives him a random item that effects his stats, not unlike shulk but with no risk but miniscule returns, and game and watch for the random effect. so like, getting a sword improves knockback, axes do more damage, shields take less damage, and the buffs improve depending on what the item is made of (iron gold diamond ect) also, love the idea of more Mii Fighter classes, never even thought of it before but it seems obvious lmao
Im glad I held up on commenting when the first vid didnt have Simon, because your right when it comes to Konami. But your safe roster definatly seems more plausible to me, but the roll out updates also make sense
I'm a younger player, 15, I was just barely young enough to grow up with Minecraft. I would love his inclusion, although the internet would explode with anger/craziness
I prefer a base roster of 50-60 fighters (and at most 10-15 DLC) making the roster around 70 fighters, which is a nice number. But a roster this small has many problems, just like a 100 sized roster. Keep it in the middle.
There can never be too much. I just want them to add 12-20 more for now, you know, the usual added and not add like 30 so the roster gets too flooded already. If they have a roster of 100, that’s ok, but don’t make them have a roster of 100 in smash 5, that’s like doubling the roster. You can have 100 in like smash 7 or 8, when the previous game has around 90 people.

Returning Veterans: Ice Climbers, Wolf, Snake and Pokémon Trainer(Pichu, Squirtle, Ivysaur and Charizard.). Nintendo Newcomers: Captain Toad, Paper Mario, Waluigi, Inklings(obviously), Dixie Kong, King K.Rool, Rex and Pyra/Mythra, Elma, Decidueye, Lycanroc, The one Fire Emblem character that he mentioned in this video(I can’t remember her name!), Geno(Although made by Square Enix, Debuted in a Nintendo made game.) and Tokimaru(I think that’s his name.). Guests: Banjo-Kazooie, Goku, Shrek(had his own fighting game), John Cena or Seth Rollins(WWE 2K18 is for the Switch, so seems logical), Steve or Alex from Minecraft, Shovel Knight and finally Master Chief(I know what you’re thinking, that theirs no way he’ll be included, but if Microsoft will give Banjo-Kazooie and Steve and Alex away, then maybe he’ll be included, and if not, it’ll be Conker, I mean, he was in Diddy Kong Racing.) Enjoyed the safe roster video a lot more. Even in a "wild roster" video, this doesn't feel like it has much logic to it. Why would they add Celica when a new FE game is coming out? Etc. But mainly, I don't like the idea that a wild roster cuts a ton. That seems feasible. Wouldn't a wild roster be bigger or the same size with strange character choices? The safe roster ended up being more fun than the wild one. Didn't dislike it or anything, but I think the first video was put together much better. No offense intended.
Everything is good except the massive roster cut. I, and most, would rather include Sans, Steve, and every type of character like them (Not goku or shrek tho) than have this much cut. GANON IS CUT FFS.

I'm shocked Waluigi wasn't mentioned in either of these. I'd love Geno or Paper Mario (Paper Mario is actually my 2nd most wanted) but I do feel Waluigi has been snubbed twice and it's time for him to get his chance. My most wanted is still Fawful though, who's mentioned pretty much never but I still think the M&L remakes give him a chance.
I honestly don't think Waluigi should be included. He's never appeared in any main titles (besides Waluigi costumes); the only games he's in are Mario spin-off games. It really seems like the only reason he exists was to give Wario a tennis partner, and he hasn't really been expanded on since.
The "never in main series titles" argument applies to most Mario character requests these days. There's not much interesting left to add from the main series. Other than Waluigi most of my requests are from the Mario RPGs, so I can't really get on board with "it has to be main series." Waluigi is absolutely bursting with personality and Charles Martinet clearly has just as much fun voicing him as he does Mario, Luigi and Wario. And Waluigi's prominence in sports spinoffs may be one of the biggest reasons he could have a unique moveset- basing it on sports by letting him use a tennis racket like his assist trophy, but expand it by also letting him have golf or baseball inspired moves. Maybe even reference Mario Kart in his moveset.
Still want to see someone from Dark Souls, at least as DLC. Personally, I'd love to see Solaire, as I feel he has potential as well as recognizability. Down B- Bonfire Sets a bonfire somewhere on the map, which slowly heals him and teammates close to it. Neutral B- Parry If done with correct timing, acts like a counter Side B- Lightning Spear Solaire would throw a miracle at the enemy, which deals damage with little knockback Up B- Homeward Bone Honestly, I felt that there were very few ideas for an Up B for a Souls character, with how little they go vertical. So, my idea was that, if Solaire has a bonfire active, he'll return to that spot, but the bonfire disappears. Final Smash- Soul of Gwyn Solaire would transform into Gwyn, similar to Giga Bowser, but a bit faster since he's not as massive. A lot of his basic attacks would have a fire or lightning attribute to them, and his B moves would be unusable.
While this was still a pretty fun video to watch, I feel like the resulting roster would be lame as hell. So few big newcomers, so many good characters ditched...idk, I think it would've been a lot easier to shallow if you went over what the results of the updates would ultimately be.
I must say that I really love the idea of starting with a smaller roster and slowly let it expand. That kind of updating could really make a huge difference in making the game feel fresh even like a few years after its release.
I've waited waterboarding for this. Just as some critique (not hating), but you should try to maintain a weekly uploading schedule (for videos like these especially if possible). I def want to see you gain as many subs as you deserve
In my mind there is no way that bayonetta doesn't make the roster. This is nintendos big adult themed game that they are really trying to push and make a big success of, they also own the rights to her. With the great reception the re-release of 1+2 got on the switch and another game on the way it would be a travesty if they don't add her to smash bros. Sure she needs a little balancing in smash but she is very unique and won the popular vote to get into smash in the first place.
Levelup 3 joint property now, bayo 2+3 was heavily funded by nintendo and would never have been released if it wasnt for nintendo. Nintendo has all the publishing rights.
I absolutely love both of your list ideas as well as your thought processes behind every decision you've made. I also have incredible respect to how you handle your videos/content. I am curious about a few possible choices that I've been seeing as of late. If you do read this, I'm curious of your thoughts on them: 1) Crash Bandicoot. He is getting his trilogy of games released on the Nintendo Switch, so I've been seeing people argue that he could possibly come forward to join the brawl. 2) Banjo & Kazooie. Outside of people wanting to see more of them, I've been hearing and reading that their creator would absolutely love to have his characters appear in the game. So, at the least, they'd have the creator's consent in the project. 3) Sora. With Cloud Strife appearing as a DLC in the Fourth SSB, it's almost as if we could possibly get even more characters involved with Square Enix. Now, while I feel like Sephiroth or one/all of the main characters from FF15 would have better chances, people (along with myself a bit) can see the potential to have Sora of Kingdom Hearts fame appear in the SSB. I know that Disney may have something to say about it, but it could be cool promotion for KH3 (then again, I also think that this could only happen if KH3 is revealed to be releasing on the Nintendo Switch). 4) Waluigi. Outside of him being a fan favorite that people want in the game, he technically does have a unique set of games that could give him a unique fighting style. What would be so unique? Well, he could be a characters whose weapons and specials could all come from the sports games he's been in. I mean, outside of Little Mac's boxing, I can't think of a character whose move set involves sporting. So he would have that going for him. Also, I am surprised that, while you did talk about Arms, you didn't really talk about Bayonetta too much outside of a reference in the first part of all of this. Admittedly, while she was only a DLC in the last SSB, I feel like she's more likely going to be part of the main roster now that Nintendo owns her franchise. Would you consider that something to think about in terms of making a roster for the upcoming SSB?
She's been considered to be taken out of Melee and Brawl before, so her getting cut isn't far-flung... Besides, given the idea behind this roster is that it will be constantly expanding (har), Jiggs could come back with some revamped ideas.
Both of these videos are amazing and I love the creative ideas as always! My one problem: Jigglypuff is definitely going to be in the base roster. It's a staple. But that's just something minor, of course. Great video as always!

Brad Thingy I don't get the hate. I'm an "adult" who's never played Minecraft, but you'd have to be delusional to not see how immensely influential and iconic Minecraft has become. It's up there with Mario and Pac-Man for the younger generation. Rights are potentially an issue, but Steve more than deserves a spot.
Brad Thingy I feel the same. There's nothing wrong with the games. Clearly people like them based on how popular they are. Not everyone shares the same tastes and that's ok. What's not ok is saying that other people are not allowed to have certain tastes or is a horrible person because of it is not ok.
Don't forget that Steve might suffer the same fate as Pac-Man. A character no one play with, because of crappy moves. Characters like Steve are always mid tier or lower.

Great video Del. I wanted to challenge something with the Pokemon picks though. You talked about Mimikyu and made a point of saying that as the roster was decided prior to Sun & Moon releasing Mimikyu wouldn't have been chosen, presumably over Lycanroc, but that seems really contradictory, especially as Lycanroc wasn't really a big focus until the anime and games launched. Meanwhile Mimikyu was huge months before Sun & Moon released appearing all over the place in Japan before Sun & Moon released. By your logic I feel like Mimikyu is the more likely choice.

Jigglypuff has been irrelevant in the Pokemon franchise for quite a while now and it’s been on low priority for Smash for quite a while as well.
Jigglypuff is a mainstay at this point. Lucario and Mewtwo were also irrelevant in Smash 4's time, but he made it in. Ness, Lucas, and Captain Falcon have been irrelevant for as long as Jiggs, and don't even get me started on R.O.B, Mr. Game and Watch, and Duck Hunt. Being old doesn't preclude you from being in Smash if you've been there before.
I'd actually love to see a *Mii Spellcaster.* Sure, the gunner used some moves from magic users, like Ness and Zelda, but I feel like that wasn't enough. Seeing as the mage is usually the class I chose in these types of games, I'd totally be down for one.
I'm also a supporter of *Ridley.* I know the rep-argument isn't something the devs care about, but Ridley is just so iconic on his own, I feel like. Plasma-Breath, bouncing on his spiked tail and hitting opponents with it and his talons would also make for an interesting moveset in my opinion.
Sure, there's the argument of him being too big, but sizing him down worked in Melee's opening as well.
While I wouldn't mind having *Geno* that much, I just feel he'd have a strange presence in the game, just because he only appeared once in a game that came out ages ago. I do love Super Mario RPG (all of the Mario RPGs actually), so I'm always happy for it to get some recognition. But it'd just be strange seeing Geno over more known Mario characters like Toad, Waluigi or Kamek, if you catch my drift.
*Steve* is incredibly well-known and still somewhat relevant. Not to mention his moveset-potential is huge since there's so much to do in Minecraft. I do like Minecraft as a game myself (even if most of its community is just kids). I don't think he's likely (this is the wild roster after all), but I would certainly not mind seeing Steve in. There's also the fact that so many people would get pissed for including him, which is a scenario I'm not opposed to either. :D
And wouldn't it be cool if there was an option to make your own skin for Steve to play as? I'm thinking of something like the emblems in Mario Kart DS. You probably wouldn't be able to use them online though.
I'm just afraid that if *Paper Mario* were to get in, he'd only use moves from Sticker Star and Colour Splash. This might sound incredibly spiteful, but I'd rather not have him in at all instead of like that. Until we get a Paper Mario game that returns to the old charm of the series, I'd want Paper Mario out of Smash Bros.
*Bandana Dee* being my top one character I want to see in this game, it does make me happy to see him on both rosters.

The difference is that Geno is a Mario character, whereas G&W and R.O.B. weren't from any series that's already in Smash. Not sure how Sakurai and his team view this, but I personally think that puts him in a bit of a different spot.

And yeah, watched Delzthins Paper Mario Moveset and despite him selling it as an alternate Mario move set based on the fact that he's paper (which if done right would still have been leaning a little to heavily into modern Paper Mario IMO) it ended up being this super generic move set that barely references anything from paper Mario except the most asinine stuff from modern Paper Mario. I don't want paper Mario in the game if it's gonna be more of Nintendo shoving that down our throats.

Yeah, the problem with most of the choices on this list is that he dismisses so many other fighters believeing them to be DLC. Thus making the base rooster a lot weaker and the choices have more weight (which some failed to deliver, *cough Elma and Ridley *cough). This was a good video but kinda disappointing.

I just don't understand why every prediction video thinks Smash is going to have less than 70 characters. I know it's more of an opinion and nothing's really a fact, but these numbers are so consistent throughout the series. I think there would be 70 at least, starting out with almost as much as SSB4 is so weak if it's a "new" game. Judging by that pattern too, Smash seems to start you out with more characters than the previous game.
Also, sorry if I sound highly negative! It's my own fault for literally screaming when I saw that the second part was uploaded, but I just wasn't too fond with the roster due to the reasons y'all stated. I always enjoy the videos though, and his quality. This guy does great work. I just wish I didn't come to this video with high expectations, specially since everyone has different opinions.

My beef isn't with Minecraft itself, but the with Steve. Steve isn't a character. He is a placeholder model that was kept in the final game. He was named Steve when Notch was asked an offhand question in a panel of what to name the default player model. He is literally an empty husk of a character. We can have a Minecraft stage if you really want to rep Minecraft. But Steve is not a character. Thankfully, I think Sakurai has good enough taste to agree with me and most other people.

I really have to disagree with the updated animations part of Steve. I mean, it really sounds unnecessary when Mr. Game & Watch exists. Not to mention, Steve can perform all of his moves in his very own game just fine, so getting rid of one of Steve's defining features really would be a bad move, especially since Sakurai always seems to go for the most classic rendition of characters, especially third parties, with examples being Mega Man and Pacman.

Personally, I would prefer Steve. It would just seem like a "what in the world? that sounds cool!" kind of character. Sans would be a "what in the world? what is he doing here?!" kind of character. An Undertale rep wouldn't be as well received as a Minecraft rep, mostly because of fanbases and popularity issues.
This is an awful roster in my opinion, but well made and thought out video.
well this is suppose to be a much more wild/risky roster that is set with a different circumstance. Some of these options for how the roster is played and newcomers are meant to be wild while the previous roster was for more grounded,realistic and safer options.

Hm...interesting ideas here. While I'm not on board with the chances of some of these, there's arguments to be made for them. Starting from the top of the roster and going vertically downward (that you spoke of in this video):
Geno: I would LOVE for Geno to get in. The guy's fanbase needs a lot more love than it seems to have gotten. He's got plenty of moveset potential and certainly has Sakurai's attention. This issue comes from Square themselves. Honestly, I'd think they'd want to put someone in from one of their other franchises first before they went with Geno, like maybe Erdrick or one of the other Dragon Quest characters or (dare I say it) Sora. Still, Geno's likely to be the most requested of any Square characters that get included
Ridley: Hello there old friend. Truthfully, I've wanted Ridley since the first time I even knew Smash Speculation was a thing. I honestly would love to see him in. I think Sakurai and company could work him in if given the time and the opportunity. Thing is, Ridley's probably the most divisive (or second most divisive counting Steve) newcomer you have on the list. People would either love to see him in and praise Sakurai for years on end or despise Sakurai for putting him in at all and "breaking his own rules" (because the internet is like that). Now, if this were handled like Splatoon or ARMS, I could see Ridley coming later with more time given certainly. But for now...eh.
Celica: Celica does come from the most recent Fire Emblem game (or second most recent counting Fire Emblem Warriors). So I could see her getting the possible nod. But there's a ton of other Fire Emblem characters that people likely have picked as better options than Celica herself. Hector, Lyn, Alm, Macaiah, all of them are possible options. So Celica's not only dealing with people not wanting more Fire Emblem characters, but also dealing with other possible Fire Emblem characters that would want that spot. That being said, Celica offers more than most of them have, so it is possible she gets in. We'll just have to wait and see, I suppose
Elma: Honestly, the issue with Elma would be timing. Elma has plenty of ways to make a moveset for her and she would be a heck of a lot of fun. Buuuuut the timing of her game's release is the issue. From what I've been told, Xenoblade Chronicles X did do better than the original, but then Xenoblade 2 just came and said "Hold my Beer" and surpassed both in sales. So Rex and Pyrra would likely get the opportunity first. Elma's window is closing, but it's not closed completely...yet
Steve: Hoooooooo boy. THIS guy. I have no hatred towards Minecraft, don't get me wrong. And Steve could certainly be a great option for younger players thanks to how popular it is. And Microsoft's ownership of Mojang hasn't hampered the fact that Minecraft has been on Nintendo consoles and done well. But...well, the problem is two things. First: How willing would Nintendo be to put Steve in anyway. The thing with Steve is that he's created by a Western Developer, and that same problem is what hurts Shovel Knight's chances. I don't even know how popular Minecraft is over in Japan. And second: Does Steve have enough support in the community (via the Smash Ballot, which they said would influence later Smash roster decisions) to warrant a spot. I mean, there's plenty of uniqueness to Steve to make an interesting moveset, but the question is whether or not there's enough support both from within Nintendo and within the community to warrant Steve's inclusion. Out of all the characters on here, I think Steve's chances are the lowest, but he's still got a chance and we'll see how well he does

Internet's backlash to Ridley would not "Sakurai breaking his own rules". The biggest assault would be "They didn't do his justice" or "He is not MY Ridley!". Like they do for Ganondorf for about ten years. And Wario.

The thing with Elma being higher than Rex/Pyra was the whole Sakurai buying the robot model, which leads Elma as a more viable canidate than Rex/Pyra - after all, it's easier to work a character in when the game is already out than when it was likely still in development when he was making the roster.

Mike has it quite difficult to appear because he is a Western-Only character. Nintendo would put Takamaru, Ayumi Tachibana, Lip, Donbe and Hikari, Saki Amamiya, Goku (YuYuKi's), Sutte Hakkun and many other Japan-Only characters before him. As a detail, the Spanish speakers who were born from 2000 onwards could say that they got Elrubius (A very popular Spanish RUclipsr).
In spite of that, he would be a good inclusion.
MusashiX 96 I think Nintendo should revive the Famicom Detective Club. Ayumi would be a wacky and awesome character decision. I'm sure her or Takamaru are gonna be in the new smash
Seth foreal I also want a Tantei Club Part IV. It really surprises that at present, in actual boom of the visual novels, Nintendo has not been encouraged to revive this series and bring it to the West (More for the enormous potential it has).
And I agree, it is quite likely that we will see Ayumi in this new installment; and she has many points to validate her inclusion:
-Her series is quite loved in Japan (And maybe it has a cult in America and Europe).
-She would be the first playable character from a visual novel, a genre that has not yet been represented beyond the trophies.
-It would be the opportunity for her to be famous in the rest of the world, opening the possibility of a Tantei Club Part IV (Or remakes of the 3 previous games).
-Her inclusion would be an excellent way to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Tantei Club series (1988-2018).
-She has the bonus that Masahiro Sakurai is a fan of her saga.
This was honestly pretty good for a wild roster, and pretty entertaining to watch!
Though, as a Kirby nut myself, I'm honestly curious why you cut Meta Knight out of the roster and included Bandana (Waddle) Dee regardless.
I was almost thinking you'd keep the original trio and not include Bandana Dee at all (despite me wanting him in so much), but seeing it like this, although understandable due to the Smaller Base Roster reason, made it feel go wild in a direction I did not expect.
Regardless, the wait for this was worth it! I really hope your pains will disappear eventually, and I wish you good luck! You deserve the views and subscribers you have, if not more! :)

All Fire Emblem characters, like Pokémon are just flavors of the day. Cool for a little while, but ultimately replaceable. In contrast, there's Mario, Link, and Pikachu. We call them Nintendo's All-Stars.
Lyn is not as relevant anymore. To be fair, and I like the character, she lost her chance in Brawl.
Elma really would be a good addition. With dual machine guns and swords she really would be a unique character.

Both of these videos were awesome. I really like the way you said how steve from minecraft can get in. Most people really don’t like minecraft that much. I really see Steve getting in, and it isn’t a bad thing. Some people just have the wrong idea.

Bold prediction: Hyrule Warriors Sheik and Odyssey Mario will be in smash. Sheik and Mario gets updated moves, and Sheik gets a new final smash.

Ok, I gotta say I love everything about these ideas you shared. I'll admit, I mostly like it because the content rollout, Lycanroc, Mii Spellcaster, and Celica. I honestly really appreciate the detail in these videos. Thanks for something great to watch! ^ u ^
I'm surprised no one considers Tiki or Anna when Fire Emblem characters come up in these prediction videos. I mean, yeah, they never get top billing in their games (spin-offs aside), but they're practically mascots of the series by this point, trumping practically everyone else in both canon and non-canon appearances, ESPECIALLY Anna, if we're not explicitly talking about playable appearances. Not to mention, everyone complains about the prominence of sword-wielders in Smash, especially FE reps, and neither one of them does; Anna's history includes bows and an ax (not to mention that "waifu" factor the franchise really loves milking, nowadays), and Tiki's small size, combined with her nature as a Manakete and lack of any other weapons could really make for a unique character that strongly represents the more magical side of her franchise. Maybe they're not as popular as say, Lynn or Hector, but they're definitely my top picks as FE reps.
Also, just throwing it out there, if that robot figure IS connected to Smash, and not a new, original project, it's likely for CustomRobo.

XshadOtakuX I love Anna and wish she would make it, but the canon appearances argument is bunk. Dunsparce has more canon appearances than Lucario.
Glad number of appearances was my least relevant point, then. This comment did make me chuckle, though :)
Dunsparce doesn't have popularity or central relevance to his franchise anywhere close to Lucario's, whereas Ana certainly does when compared to the likes of Robin and Marth. Like I said, Anna's relevance AND number of appearances practically makes her a series mascot, and she even takes center-stage in a spinoff title to drive home how beloved she is. Heck, FE Awakening was intended to be the franchise's swan song, and they specifically took the time to make her playable and even flesh out her character more than in the past because they knew how much fans would appreciate it. Not saying it's likely, but definitely worthy of consideration.
I really want Henry from Awakening to be added. Partially because I really like his character, but mostly because I think he could have a really interesting moveset. They could use his liking for crows, his backstory involving a wolf, and his magic spells.

I so agree with you on Steve. Even if I, and most of my friends won't care about him and probably will even backlash against him, you're right. The gaming world is changing constantly, and like it or not, Steve is one of the biggest icons in all of gaming, from one of the biggest games out there. And you can dislike him all you want, but do you think kids care about Cloud? There is nothing wrong with appealing to all kinds of gamers from all generations and demographics. And Steve has definitely worked his way up the ranks, to the point where I would rank him with Mario, Pac-Man and Sonic. My grandma won't recognise 95% of the Smash roster, but she'll recognise Steve. And if you feel like a gaming icon needs to be super old and have history, no, no they don't. Gaming icons can come from all generations. Mario and Pac-Man are icons, but so is Pikachu and many consider Cloud one too. And I would say the Miis are iconic too, with the success the Wii had. Age does not define status. Steve is definitely not on my priority list, but if he does get in, he'll have my support.
I disagree with Cloud, Bayonneta, and Ryu being cut because their appearance is epic in Smash plus hopefully they will be in an CGI cutscenes.

okay so consider this, Steve's down special is a crafting table that he uses, it gives him a random item that effects his stats, not unlike shulk but with no risk but miniscule returns, and game and watch for the random effect.
so like, getting a sword improves knockback, axes do more damage, shields take less damage, and the buffs improve depending on what the item is made of (iron gold diamond ect)
also, love the idea of more Mii Fighter classes, never even thought of it before but it seems obvious lmao

I prefer a base roster of 50-60 fighters (and at most 10-15 DLC) making the roster around 70 fighters, which is a nice number. But a roster this small has many problems, just like a 100 sized roster. Keep it in the middle.

There can never be too much. I just want them to add 12-20 more for now, you know, the usual added and not add like 30 so the roster gets too flooded already.
If they have a roster of 100, that’s ok, but don’t make them have a roster of 100 in smash 5, that’s like doubling the roster. You can have 100 in like smash 7 or 8, when the previous game has around 90 people.

Enjoyed the safe roster video a lot more. Even in a "wild roster" video, this doesn't feel like it has much logic to it. Why would they add Celica when a new FE game is coming out? Etc. But mainly, I don't like the idea that a wild roster cuts a ton. That seems feasible. Wouldn't a wild roster be bigger or the same size with strange character choices? The safe roster ended up being more fun than the wild one. Didn't dislike it or anything, but I think the first video was put together much better. No offense intended.
Echoes, we assume, started development around the same time as Smash Switch, which is the same reason why Elma is probably on this list

I'm shocked Waluigi wasn't mentioned in either of these. I'd love Geno or Paper Mario (Paper Mario is actually my 2nd most wanted) but I do feel Waluigi has been snubbed twice and it's time for him to get his chance. My most wanted is still Fawful though, who's mentioned pretty much never but I still think the M&L remakes give him a chance.
I honestly don't think Waluigi should be included. He's never appeared in any main titles (besides Waluigi costumes); the only games he's in are Mario spin-off games. It really seems like the only reason he exists was to give Wario a tennis partner, and he hasn't really been expanded on since.
The "never in main series titles" argument applies to most Mario character requests these days. There's not much interesting left to add from the main series. Other than Waluigi most of my requests are from the Mario RPGs, so I can't really get on board with "it has to be main series." Waluigi is absolutely bursting with personality and Charles Martinet clearly has just as much fun voicing him as he does Mario, Luigi and Wario. And Waluigi's prominence in sports spinoffs may be one of the biggest reasons he could have a unique moveset- basing it on sports by letting him use a tennis racket like his assist trophy, but expand it by also letting him have golf or baseball inspired moves. Maybe even reference Mario Kart in his moveset.

Still want to see someone from Dark Souls, at least as DLC. Personally, I'd love to see Solaire, as I feel he has potential as well as recognizability.

Sets a bonfire somewhere on the map, which slowly heals him and teammates close to it.
Neutral B- Parry
If done with correct timing, acts like a counter
Side B- Lightning Spear
Solaire would throw a miracle at the enemy, which deals damage with little knockback
Up B- Homeward Bone
Honestly, I felt that there were very few ideas for an Up B for a Souls character, with how little they go vertical. So, my idea was that, if Solaire has a bonfire active, he'll return to that spot, but the bonfire disappears.
Final Smash- Soul of Gwyn
Solaire would transform into Gwyn, similar to Giga Bowser, but a bit faster since he's not as massive. A lot of his basic attacks would have a fire or lightning attribute to them, and his B moves would be unusable.
While this was still a pretty fun video to watch, I feel like the resulting roster would be lame as hell. So few big newcomers, so many good characters ditched...idk, I think it would've been a lot easier to shallow if you went over what the results of the updates would ultimately be.

I must say that I really love the idea of starting with a smaller roster and slowly let it expand. That kind of updating could really make a huge difference in making the game feel fresh even like a few years after its release.

The mii spellcaster idea is actually a very cool idea.
In my mind there is no way that bayonetta doesn't make the roster. This is nintendos big adult themed game that they are really trying to push and make a big success of, they also own the rights to her. With the great reception the re-release of 1+2 got on the switch and another game on the way it would be a travesty if they don't add her to smash bros. Sure she needs a little balancing in smash but she is very unique and won the popular vote to get into smash in the first place.

How did this guy predict more correct one in the wild roster that the safe roster?
I absolutely love both of your list ideas as well as your thought processes behind every decision you've made. I also have incredible respect to how you handle your videos/content.
I am curious about a few possible choices that I've been seeing as of late. If you do read this, I'm curious of your thoughts on them:
1) Crash Bandicoot. He is getting his trilogy of games released on the Nintendo Switch, so I've been seeing people argue that he could possibly come forward to join the brawl.
2) Banjo & Kazooie. Outside of people wanting to see more of them, I've been hearing and reading that their creator would absolutely love to have his characters appear in the game. So, at the least, they'd have the creator's consent in the project.
3) Sora. With Cloud Strife appearing as a DLC in the Fourth SSB, it's almost as if we could possibly get even more characters involved with Square Enix. Now, while I feel like Sephiroth or one/all of the main characters from FF15 would have better chances, people (along with myself a bit) can see the potential to have Sora of Kingdom Hearts fame appear in the SSB. I know that Disney may have something to say about it, but it could be cool promotion for KH3 (then again, I also think that this could only happen if KH3 is revealed to be releasing on the Nintendo Switch).
4) Waluigi. Outside of him being a fan favorite that people want in the game, he technically does have a unique set of games that could give him a unique fighting style. What would be so unique? Well, he could be a characters whose weapons and specials could all come from the sports games he's been in. I mean, outside of Little Mac's boxing, I can't think of a character whose move set involves sporting. So he would have that going for him.
Also, I am surprised that, while you did talk about Arms, you didn't really talk about Bayonetta too much outside of a reference in the first part of all of this. Admittedly, while she was only a DLC in the last SSB, I feel like she's more likely going to be part of the main roster now that Nintendo owns her franchise. Would you consider that something to think about in terms of making a roster for the upcoming SSB?
I would have jigglypuff there since she is a original 12. I like the idea of mii spellcaster and steve.
She's been considered to be taken out of Melee and Brawl before, so her getting cut isn't far-flung...
Besides, given the idea behind this roster is that it will be constantly expanding (har), Jiggs could come back with some revamped ideas.
Both of these videos are amazing and I love the creative ideas as always! My one problem: Jigglypuff is definitely going to be in the base roster. It's a staple.

Brad Thingy I don't get the hate. I'm an "adult" who's never played Minecraft, but you'd have to be delusional to not see how immensely influential and iconic Minecraft has become. It's up there with Mario and Pac-Man for the younger generation. Rights are potentially an issue, but Steve more than deserves a spot.

Brad Thingy I feel the same. There's nothing wrong with the games. Clearly people like them based on how popular they are. Not everyone shares the same tastes and that's ok. What's not ok is saying that other people are not allowed to have certain tastes or is a horrible person because of it is not ok.
Don't forget that Steve might suffer the same fate as Pac-Man. A character no one play with, because of crappy moves. Characters like Steve are always mid tier or lower.

Great video Del. I wanted to challenge something with the Pokemon picks though. You talked about Mimikyu and made a point of saying that as the roster was decided prior to Sun & Moon releasing Mimikyu wouldn't have been chosen, presumably over Lycanroc, but that seems really contradictory, especially as Lycanroc wasn't really a big focus until the anime and games launched. Meanwhile Mimikyu was huge months before Sun & Moon released appearing all over the place in Japan before Sun & Moon released. By your logic I feel like Mimikyu is the more likely choice.
