Thank you so much for your kind comments about my boat, it's always good read such compliments. Though, I'm often asked to consider other makes of sailboat, I never feel too comfortable doing so. It is hard to judge what I have little experience of. What I can tell you is that a factory finished SC31 that has been well maintained offers a safe, solid and comfortable vehicle to make voyages and dreams come true. You might take longer to get to a distant shore but you'll get there!
every boat I keep searching for and i keep coming back to look at the interior of yours again and again and again. I guess this is the boat I need to be searching hard for and waiting to come onto the market
Gotta write another message man what a gorgous boat you have gosh it really did capture what it was like to be aboard. I'm pretty much done with looking at all other boats I'm searching for only two boats one for sure is the SC 31 and the other is a aries 32 both made by CE Ryder
Thank you very much for the compliments. The interior is the original as factory fitted. Recently, we spent hundreds of hours cutting the varnish back to the wood and revarnishing. Well worth the effort but lotsand lots of work. You will find some very good home completed boats out there, as well as some good condition factory completed like mine. I suspect that were mine to come on the market it would be a little too far away for you. Good luck with your searches.
I looked on line at that one you mentioned, looks pretty good. You could be right about falling prices, this recession has a long way to go. Though, many have not woken up to that fact! Good luck.
Many thanks JoJo, this interior movie was made because it's the one area I've not yet covered, and because a guy looking to buy a SC asked fo some interior views. I am glad you like the movie, and I hope it does not look like showing of on my part. If I ever get up to your waters, you're my guest for a sail.
Yeah a friend of mine keeps telling me to check out the pearson 323 and I just don't like it although will go see one in person to make sureb ut now am after a sc 31. I found opne in Key west florida but it was a owner finished boat has a new yanmar but it concerns me that it was owner finished. This boat has lots of crusing gear but I just don't know. I did find another one factory finished but gonna have to save a little more for it, it's been really well kept up
Many thanks, we just spent six weeks vrnishing the interior! AC unit keeping out the tropical heat. I've watched all your video with the little lad steering, a new autopilot? What boat is that? All the best
yeah I found another one came onto the market very nice 1980 boat for 39000 and I swear this looks like the exact boat that sold a couple years ago down in Pensacola FL for 33900 because the listing is still online. This boat though is now in the Dominican Repulic still to far for me. I have been following one that has really come down in price and if not sold around Christmas time I'm gonna head on over to the east coast and take a look at it and see if I can get it.
Thanks yeah the Pearson it looked pretty well built but I just don't know. The sc 31 that was owner finished really isn't to bad of a owner finished boat just very weird the head is way up in the bow it's like you have the v-berth and the head right there. I'd rather have a door on the head closeing it off to everything else. i know this may sound strange but it's just what I want
Yes, that's what I mean by 'odd', I heard of another that had an interior built around a sewing machine. These uses of space might be perfectly logical for the original owners but wont suit everyone. The front cabin head is quite common in some makes, I suspect the sewage tank will be directly below the lavatory bowl. But, I really would not want to sleep in a lavatory if I could help it!
I think that regarding prices you can well afford to wait, I see no reason why there should not be further price falls. Considering the interior, you should certainly want a very close look. This concerns not just the style and condition of the inside, but more importantly the general structural integrity. Look out for signs of leaks, look at the hatch and window seals, check the tanks, make sure you can close the seacocks, have a look above the main bulkhead for sag. These areas and more.
Thanks, How much does it cost for if you were to pay someone to replace all seacocks?? seems like this is what I'd want to do the first on a used boat.
I loked at a few Pearsons, my impression was that they were not truly long distance boats. Though, the 323 is heavy and has a longish keel, deep as well. Most likely quite fast. I would worry about the exposed prop. That would attract stray mooring lines as used in crazy Caribbean countries. Self complete boats can be at least as good as factory completed. But, they can also be rather odd, badly completed and of uncertain quality. The new engine is a bonus, so long as it's well tested, good luck
there's another one on NC for 25k which I have emailed the owners daughter but she only has photos of the outside of the boat and I really want to see the inside of it, so I need to give the owner a call this weekend and have him describe the boat to me and again hopefully around Christmas time I can see this one as well but this one is an owner finished boat so I'm a little skeptical of it. Yes people say it will get better the recession but in reality I think it will be a while before it get
Hard to say, I've never sailed a Westsail. Do they have plywood deck? Westsails are very tough, strong boats. I think stronger than the SC, though, much more expensive. Both boats are right down at the heavy, go through anything end of the market. They are both slow compared to other makes. More than this I cannot say.
People are really starting to come down on the price of there boats they realize if they want it sold they gotta come way down. Bad for sellers but getting better for people like me trying to buy there first boat.

Good choice of Yacht....she ticks all the boxes.
Hard to say, I've never sailed a Westsail.

gets better. I mean I try and think positive but what I'm seeing and seeing on the news doesn't looks good at all.
Take care
