Grande musicista, grandissima sinfonia.Come nella maggior parte delle sue composizioni, applica il principio di conciliare i temi del folklore locale con le grandi forme classiche occidentali: un modello che sarà ripreso da Tchaikowsky, suo allievo e da molti altri (es.Dvorak.). Bravo !
Perhaps of all symphonies, my emotional involvement with Rubinstein's 5th is most involved and complex and would entail pages. It was one of the 20 or so symphonies for which I instigated a taped reading when it had never hit surface recording previously.
Interesting how some composers, famous in their era, have not stood the test of time. Listening to this symphony I guess you could say it's pleasant enough but not particularly memorable or exciting compared to so many works written since.
It's a good listen every once in a while. It's as good as many greater composers' lesser symphonies. There are many of them, also good listens once in a while, that are better known because of the name recognition. I've been dedicating myself on youtube to discovering these very good, and sometimes great, composers, many unsung.
Anton Rubinstein had a rare gift for melody and orchestration, he had many ingenious ideas. However, in terms of building musical structures he was mediocre and didn't seem to put enough effort. For example - 24:48 - there is a transition to another subject which is totally unconnected and doesn't fit the spirit of the movement at all. he was throwing his ideas all over without thinking where and how to connect them - to build a coherent and convincing piece. Nevertheless, the lush orchestration and the sheer beauty of his melodies makes up for it. He may not be one of the greatest composers, but he is will deserved to get his stage too.
Величайший композитор, очень глубокая и невероятно красивая музыка! лайк

Johann....Il finale del primo movimento mi sembra tagliato.

I love this symphony. Have heard it dozens of times. Not sick of it yet.
