Bernard John Manning (13 August 1930 - 18 June 2007) was an English comedian and nightclub owner.[1][2]
Manning gained a high profile on British television during the 1970s, appearing on shows such as The Comedians and The Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club. His act became controversial as attitudes changed, with the result that Manning was rarely seen on television in the last few decades of his career.] However, he continued to perform at live venues until his death on the 18th June 2007 (aged 76)

I am sure Esther wasn't consciously protecting the predator..usually it is a female who is involved without knowing all the facts. Thatcher would have been one of those females. I saw him live a few times and laughed so much I was ill. No one else ever had that effect.
Irishman here, and always found this man funny, regardless. The ability to laugh at each other reduces the power of dictators. Pc brigade should take notice.

He was known to do a lot of free shows for charities. He did the seven stars pub in Heywood and never took a penny . Now that's a man who puts back to the community!
Great comedian and did loads and loads for charity ,He was no racist he took the Mickey out of everybody and every nationality ,
Esther is what we call too sweet to be wholesome , pretended to take high moral ground but had no problem judging others who did not think as she did

Nicest bloke you could of ever had wished to meet. I met him at The Villa Suite doing a gig. I went to get his autograph before the show. He had a couple of bodyguards (But he told them to move out of the way to let me past) He said "What can I do for you, son?" To which I asked. "Could I have your autograph, please?" He said. "Of course you can." He then autographed the reverse side of my ticket and said. "I hope you enjoy the show." which I replied "I'm sure I will. Thank you!". I will never forget that for as long as I live. And as for Rantzen. She should of been deported for all the shit she knew but didn't spill. Horrible woman/thing.

Two best stand-up comedians I ever saw (And there were many great ones) were Ken Dodd and Bernard. Esther Rantzen sucked a lemon her whole life and disdained Bernard's working class humour.

Top comedian. The Embassy club was a fantastic night in the 80’s and 90’s.
It was indeed. My brother was a coach driver and took parties of 52 there. He could get me in as well. I'd be about 18. And from a very, very sheltered background. I laughed that night like I'd never laughed before! Funny man. Could be crude, could be blue, could pick on folk in the audience - that was exactly why they went! Funny man. Made countless hundreds of thousands, maybe millions, of people laugh. Made them forget about the privations of useless successive governments. Is the club still going?
Seen Bernard many times at his Embassy Club.
He was fantastic.
Today's so called comics can't match him in any way.

Rantzen knew what Jimmy Savile was up to but kept quiet as children were abused both physically and sexually and said nothing. I truly look forward to reading her obituary.

The comic tradition is as old as story-telling and goes back thousands of years. I always imagine that back in the days of the Roman forum there was probably a little fat plebeian who drew a crowd by telling jokes and stories. Po-faced puritans like Esther Rantzen have never understood this. Bernard was in this tradition of glorious profanity and the freedom of unfettered joy and laughter. Shakespeare and Dickens knew it well.

I'm Irish and we the Irish people had a holocaust some like to call it the famine but the truth is, the people were deliberately starved to death in their millions .We silently remember and pray for our people but we don't bring it up every other day nor do we use it as a political tool. I still love to laugh at an Irish joke if the Jews had a since of humour, we wouldn't have the likes of political correctness. I definitely could never be described as racist but I feel the Jews are doing what Adolf Hitler once tried to do, control this World!
Look what's happening to our World because we don't laugh at or with each other anymore it has created bitterness and racism, laughter was and is a respite for many.

I was never a Bernard Manning fan. I can however appreciate his skill as a performer, and I would defend his right to perform however he likes. These days, comedy clubs banning acts they don't like on political grounds is killing comedy in the UK.
What kind of person wants to ban everything in the world that the find 'offensive', silence those who disagree with them, and censor those with whom they disagree? I'd say a weak, small minded, narcissists. Or a crypto-neo-marxist ideologue utterly lost and mired in the toxic groupthink.
