  • Turmeric, a sacred part of Hindu ceremonies, is also a widely-heralded superfood that researchers believe can be a powerful weapon against disease. Lee Cowan visits a farm in Hawaii that can't keep up with demand, and a California cafe where turmeric is all the rage.

When I was diagnosed, my oncologist suggested I read the Anti-cancer Therapy book which calls for turmeric and dark green vegetables. So far, so good.

I have been using turmeric for decades, but now, as I have learned of it's medicinal properties, I'm putting it on just about everything. Deviled eggs (oh yeah), fried eggs, just about everything I BBQ, potato salad, fish, everything. Just don't get it on your fingers. It will stain your fingernails yellow for about a week. I love it's flavor and diversity with cooking.

It takes a significant amount to taste it, even though I use mustard and cayenne in my deviled eggs, turmeric keeps the yolk yellow and flavorful! Try cardamom also, but sparilingly

I use for scar prevention. When I was young, I fell off the bike and scrape my face with a large open wound. I was afraid it will leave a permanent scar so I applied turmeric for weeks during the healing process and now I don't have any scar at all. It is truly a scar prevention on any cuts.

If you're going to introduce your country to something, at least learn how to pronounce it ... "ter-mer-ic".

So happy you said that. It was driving me crazy hearing them say "too-mer-ic" over and over.

      www.grammarphobia.com/blog/2012/06/turmeric.html
"As it happens, you can correctly pronounce “turmeric” either with or without sounding that first “r”: TUR-mer-ik or TOO-mer-ik.
The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language (5th ed.) gives both as standard pronunciations. Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary (11th ed.) gives those two plus a third, whose first syllable sounds like TYOO."
