- Keeping a busy diner running is a tall order. Our chef-in-residence Bobby Flay pulls up a chair at some celebrated Greek diners in New York and New Jersey to find out how these family businesses are run.

There used to Be have a Greek diner in my neighborhood in Brooklyn the food was not amazing but it was good solid and dependable unfortunately it Closed about three years ago and I miss it a lot

We have these in Southern California too, but they're more burger joint/fast food type places. No table service. They're good though. I like the Greek and Mexican specialties the most.

Ever notice that a Greek run diner or restaurant (as we call them in the Midwest) generally has a lovely, good looking, family related hostess to seat you at your table. Talk about a Greek Goddess!

@@user-bz9xd4ss7p So ? I've seen american style diners run by a few indians and asians for example koreans and a couple of mexicans don't mean anything anyone can run an american style diner regardless of ethnic background.

We don't have a Greek diner near us but we have a diner we go to. They know us there. They have our drinks on the table & our favorite waitress will even bring the paper over because she knows I like to read it. Oh & they have great food too.

it is two types ! The guys that just add oil (never change )and other just check the color to decide when the oil must been changed !
I can remember cutting school in my youth and spending time with friends just hanging out at a Greek diner.

The restaurants wasn't the first choice of Greeks. Simply the better Jobs with fixed working hours and stable income were mostly taken by other minorities. Most Greeks began with manual jobs like washing dishes in restaurants and gradually with very hard work they managed town their own restaurants.
The Greek diners and coney islands in Detroit aren’t Greek anymore. I miss the guys yelling at each other and never writing anything down yet the bill was always right.

I think that all nationalities of immigrants have opened restaurants because their native food is something different and tasty that they can contribute to the community with their natural skills and hard work. Then the restaurant becomes a friendly gathering place and you have success.

In this video they talk about diners and in NYC it's a dying breed, because diners are not known for excellent food so I stopped going and usually they have a huge menu and my daughter agrees she won't go even down the road

The wife had a diner too. This diner was probably by selling her diner or it's her refurbished diner. It's more her doing. He does the daily routine but it is in her blood and real estate.

Probably around Astoria Queens area. Most places are owned by Greek Cypriots there.
Bell aire diner is on Broadway and 21st street in Astoria Queens. Best food.

My dad is off the boat from Greece, I was made fun of my entire life because he doesn't own a restaurant. He was only ever a waiter and my papou sold hot dogs in the city. Being a poor Greek sucks.

there are tens of thousands of Greek diners in the United States, it's actually a little nauseating. There are like 50 Turkish restaurants in the country and there are maybe 2 Albanian eateries. It is honestly quite odd that there are so many Greek places to eat, honestly there isn't a whole lot involved in Greek cuisine, every menu is the same. simple but good.
You realise the food being served at that diner isn't Greek cuisine, right?

well here in America we refer to places with coffee bar stools and booths that serve all three traditional meals as diners and we refer to ones that sell Greek food as Greek diners@@user-yp9zy1yc2n
