  • ABANDONED 1968 Plymouth Satellite taken from the scrap pile & made into a daily driver race car just in time for the Muscle Cars at the Strip (MATS) Show in Las Vegas, NV.
In this episode I reveal the new engine for the Ratty Satty. Unfortunately it is a COMPLETE DISASTER!

No tunnel for Ratty Satty. Put the 400 stroker in it. No holes in hood. Put mini tubs in it. Make it a sleeper. Send trans to Cope Racing Trans.

The 440 makes a much better stroker than a 400 block! I’ve recently done the 512 stroker with a 70 440 block with dual quad EFI!

Before they made stroker cranks for both blocks, a 440 crank in a 400 block was the popular option. Either the mains of the crank had to be cut down to fit the smaller 400 main bearing diameter
or the 400 block opened up for 440 bearings. They almost always cut the crank though I personally would do the opposite.
A low block is a better fit in engine bays than a raised block and for A bodies that is a big benefit.

Man hate to say it but tunnel ram is just going to be a big waste of time. Nothing screams out of touch w the times like a tunnel ram. I don’t mean this to be negative but it’s just not going to do what you want it too. Just a bunch of disappointments. Something I learnt the hard way 20 years ago. I guess as long as it’s cool to you and the kids so be it. As a car builder , just way outdated

Been there before myself. I think at this point, I'd do up the 400 block, since you already bought the stroker kit and now have a tunnel ram.. The best part of doing everything yourself, is that YOU pick the complete combination.. That is HUGE!!!!!! You will know exactly what is in the engine and that all the parts will work well with all the others.. Those head are desirable for those building STOCK racers as they are a smaller CC chamber, so they will make higher compression than most. So sell them off and but a set of Trick Flow 240's and you will be in the gold.... But above all, get with your engine builder on putting together a great combo.... This is most important... Happy Holidays !!!!!!

Thats a bummer. Put the effort into the 440. I like the look of the tunnel setup as well.

  • @TsGoodTimesGarage
    @TsGoodTimesGarage 9 месяцев назад +1

The 400 is sounding better and better. You're already wanting to stroke it. Stock bore 400 is bigger than a 440 and you'd be putting pistons and boring it anyways so all other things equal, the 400 gives you more cubes. Not to mention, you could still use that 383 tunnel ram on it. Bada bing bada boom!

    Re: cylinder bores
"We'll just pretend like we didn't see that."
    as Derek would say.
It ran? I would have sure been tempted to use it in the Satellite as it was. And looked at it with a bore camera, not taken off the heads.
I would not worry about the HP block since it is the assembly not the block that differs. And standard bore is a BLESSING.
Also, the 516s are the HIGH compression heads. You can increase compression 1/2 point, they say, by putting them on in place of a 68 and newer head. They probably flow worse than 68 and newer heads. So, some good and some bad about using them. Before the advent of aftermarket bbm heads, guys would dream about getting the 67 440 HP heads, or the 67-65 516 heads and put the bigger valves used by newer heads in them. If they needed a valve job already, especially.
At least you did not have the lifters on the wrong locations or a couple of small block lifters thrown in the mix. I have seem those more than once.
Double pumpers look cool (of course they are mounted sideways) on a tunnel ram, but the 4160 types on there now make more sense. Well, any tunnel ram has barely the performance of a modern four barrel and intake, so they are just for looks.
I have a suggestion. How about using an early 60's iron intake with two AFB type carbs. No need to cut open the hood.
If you cut your spare hood, a six pac hood scoop is better looking or possibley a 67 Super Stock hood.

Good score!, now you have the ram and tranz you want, send the 383 with the fury on to a new home. That's a win.

Put a Source stroker kit in the 400 larger bore block. Start fresh at least then you know what you got. Did the 383 have 440 heads ? last 3 digits 906 ?
Block should be zero deck with flat top piston. Try and get .40" quench
So what you thinking with transmission ? Go through it as well to see what you have or just send it ?
Finally got caught up on all your video, you've been busy David.

You might want to think about a little road trip to Summit Racing in Dallas Texas they have a scratch and dent section that you wouldn't believe Kevin from junkyard digs was just there in his last RUclips video and they had everything from high rise intakes to complete engines st or around half price and it's mostly all demo and display parts you should check out his last video of him taking his dad's Oldsmobile 442 to Texas on his way back he stops there and shows some of the prices on some of the things they have..... Just a thought. The only problem is you have to go there in person to get the discounts you can't get them online... It's The biggest scratch and dent they have it's the six of a small Auto parts store...

Run easy low 12:s with a mild 30 over 440 a good convertor and some decent rear gears cheap set of drag radials even with cast iron heads if your willing to spend some time match porting and doing a good valve job with decent springs. The forged six pack replacement pistons that everyone says are to heavy are a cheap option and gets you good deck height decent quinch built more than one that’s ran 11:20 with them. Reasonable price builds.

1965 66 67 ---516 are not low compression, they are closed chamber head which = small cc volume. The reason that not many people want them is they have small 1.60 exhaust valve's and bowl. They can be worked to be a very good head with work like Stainless valve's and alot of port work. Seeing now, that there are multitude of aluminum head's that could be bought for a big block Mopar at a few hundred dollar's more then getting the 516 head's redone performancely at a machine shop. U might be better off with aluminum head's and 40lbs off front of car and better cooling

that lookslike a bone stock 383 .270 hp 383. take your 440 apart send it out and rebuild it srp 9.5 forged pistons machine crankshaft balance. get a proper cam with that crazy torqer edelbrock intake. go through that 727 in the fury. it probably has a manual valve body thats good for your combo.back to the cylinder heads. the heads on the 440 should be #452 cylinder castings they flow pretty good stock . they run between 86 to 90 ccs. that is a bit to much as they should be milled down to aprox 80-82ccs.you can go a nother route with the aluminum heads so you dont loose compression and beleive me a 440 0.030 oversized with about 400-450 hp is plenty! you dont need a newer generation hemi. to me thats not a purist.my old 1969 dodge coronet ran 14.35 with a stock cam, 3.55s and dual 21/4" exhaust ignition curve set up the old way, electronic distributor, with 165 lbs in each cylinders. figure out that build. i would like and i"ll bet others would to see that soon to be ass kickin ratty satty screaming down the road with an insane 440 mild/wild build. go with the 440, good luck on that build!
