  • HBO’s Emmy-winning and Golden Globe-nominated comedy series SILICON VALLEY has been lauded for its hilariously spot-on depiction of Silicon Valley tech culture by audiences and critics alike. What has the feedback been from the tech community itself? How has the reaction from that community impacted the show and its cast? Going into its third season, SILICON VALLEY cast members Thomas Middleditch, Josh Brener, Martin Starr and Zach Woods, joined by executive producers Mike Judge and Alec Berg, return to SXSW for a discussion moderated by writer and filmmaker Steven Leckart.

    About SXSW:
    Started in 1987, South by Southwest (SXSW) is a set of film, interactive, and music festivals and conferences that take place early each year in mid-March in Austin, Texas. SXSW’s original goal was to create an event that would act as a tool for creative people and the companies they work with to develop their careers, to bring together people from a wide area to meet and share ideas. That continues to be the goal today whether it is music, film or interactive technologies.

    Zach Woods is a real gem, the only way a comedian can survive these days is by being incredibly thick skinned or not being on social media as they put them selves out there all the time, every move will be scrutinized. He is very intelligent and quick, I hope his self awareness/deprecation, doesn't effect his career as people will want more of him as his talent is realised especially during the Silicon Valley series

    • @danepotmo2513
      @danepotmo2513 8 лет назад +22

      +Spit Raptor Yeah, he's special. He keeps playing these ingratiating, optimistic kind of people in shows, but he's a brilliant, self-aware, quick witted kind of talent. He's Jason Bateman (the person in interviews) in this lanky, dorky body....but he's fully aware and fully comfortable with being a gangly looking weirdo. I thought he was a douche in The Office, but seeing some of his improve deleted scenes, and his interviews? This guy is so incredibly talented, sharp...the most talented of that bunch. I don't think he'll ever get the credit or proper showcase though, because he's so dorky looking.

    that's such a cop-out to say the show just reflects the current situation and that's why there is no diversity within the show well I mean this show gives an insight to silicone valley the only insight about what goes on here for most people. Shows like these mold the attitudes and beliefs we have regarding silicon valley. Depicting the reality is one thing but whether you like it or not by depicting a full white cast with only one or two minorities, who are constantly harassed and the butt of jokes you're solidifying and reinforcing the hostility in these environments. I mean if they tweaked the narrative just a little bit it would have a tremendous influence on society for generations to come. They don't even have to be big changes just a good depiction of a minority character here and there. I mean a movie like limitless had people thinking we only use 10 % of our brains for years. Just some nuanced fair depiction in already good writing wouldn't hurt anyone. I really like this show but this is one fault at least for me.

    • @HavokBWR
      @HavokBWR 3 года назад

      Nah they dont have to mold the show into some fantasy world you want to live in. If they want to depict a room full of engineers in the valley as a bunch of white nerds and an Indian dude then thats their choice and their right. Stop looking to media to attempt to mold society from your imagination. Why youre trying to do is rewrite history. So many movies and shows attempt to do that and they end up being hot garbage that everyone(probably not you) can see right though. Just let artists be artists. There is probably a good reason youre not on the writing staff on a popular shwo... if you want black female coders so badly then go have a black child and try to force that shit on them, even though statistically they will still want to go into nursing, no matter how much you try to force people into roles that are currently well paying. How about this, why dont YOU make a show and make it a bunch of female garbage collectors and plumbers? Right because its never actually about "equality", its just about what you think you want at this moment.

    The general question asked by the interviewer of "how does it feel" never results in an interesting interview. Ask specific questions that the audience is really curious.

    Best thing on TV. Please don’t condense 6 seasons in to one last season. It’ll be crap.

    Audio is terrible for this video. These guys need to figure out how to get the lower voices louder and the louder voices softer. @SXSW
