A quick explanation for those that aren't aware just to help some of the head scratching. He explains the timing chain and interference motors amazingly, yes, this is very much an interference motor, as most modern vehicles are. Interference engines have valves that go down below where the pistons would rise to in the compression or exhaust phases, however, they drop down in between phases in order to suck in air and push out exhaust. The reason they're so close together and thus interference engines is for the exact reasons someone buying one would want. It simply gets better compression with a tighter squeeze without sacrificing valve depth and thus less intake and exhaust. So more intake, more exhaust, and better combustion at the expense of being super reliant on timing. You want these benefits because that means you get more power, better fuel mileage, and cleaner burns for emissions that protect your catalytic converters to avoid expensive repairs. Unfortunately, with as long as it ran (until locking up) after the timing chain failure, that motor is for sure toast, as even idle rpm sees the crankshaft spin roughly 600 revolutions per minute, which means the valves were hitting within a second. That undoubtedly means the engine is toast and probably lost compression on most, if not all cylinders. No compression, no combustion. Engine replacement would be cheaper at that rate as parts and labor would exceed the cost of a motor and labor or replacing it. That is also what a blown engine usually entales when told to you by a shop (assuming they did their due diligence), just as an insurance company totalling out a vehicle that may still run and look perfectly fine (for instance, hail damage on a unibody car can total a vehicle because the repair to all the damage would far exceed the car's value, despite being hardly noticeable and the vehicle running perfectly fine). Hope this clears up the air on any unaswered questions and I hope this lady comes upon better times, she seemed very nice.

Hey man I love your videos but I think you should try to dumb down your explanations 😂. Most people know nothing about cars so when you’re using different vehicle terminology to explain it, you’re kind of doing it like you’re talking to another mechanic rather than someone that doesn’t know what 90% of these parts are or how they work. I do the same thing tho and have to catch myself, I’m a software dev and it’s easy for me to talk about it cause it’s all common knowledge forgetting that people who might be asking will know nothing about what I do except in a very general sense.
You're amazing dude! Talented and personable, I'd donate to your fund page, $10. sorry i'm poor, but luv mechanic info..(luv the tattoos my baby grandson loves our solar system)💖
Usually if the crankshaft is not turning, there is already something bigger than just a timing chain. If I had to make a bet, there is a bent connecting rod and maybe a broken engine block.
Its probably not a free wheeling engine, meaning the piston can't be TDC with a any valve all the way open. This is what happens when a timing chain or tining belt breaks. Sounds like what happened. Time for major engine work
Would love to know more on how to prevent that ? I so the mighty Toyota badge i was holy shit. The car looked in good condition and you said the oil was normal levels.
Even if the valves aren't damaged (and they probably are) would you really want to take a chance doing an expensive repair like the timing chain, after those bearings, cam, etc. were starved for oil?

Truck turned into a vibrate going 75 mph, over onto the shoulder. Sat there for 2 hours, smoking before calling tow truck home. SMH 😆
Why would you give it more gas?? Man...people should learn how cars work .....
@@richsweeney1115 should've turned up the radio instead of pressing on gas pedal even more :D
Lol dude explaining all this stuff about the engine wasting time like she will understand a word of it.... HILARIOUS 🤣🤣🤣
"all that was just for fright" lol I love it
Love what you do. Random question what is the most reliable engine in your opinion?
Toyota v8's Actually just about all Toyota. Gotta maintain them like everything elese thought. The early 2000s chevy and ford's aren't bad either. But my opinion Toyota reins Supreme.
I do the same thing tho and have to catch myself, I’m a software dev and it’s easy for me to talk about it cause it’s all common knowledge forgetting that people who might be asking will know nothing about what I do except in a very general sense.
that engine is a goner she even ran it in that condition 💀
I wonder how long it was making noise before this lol
Hey man, love the videos! Was wondering if you went to school to learn everything or self taught? Keep it up! ‼️
This dude knows his stuff i wish i lived by him id have do my jeep cherokee brakes
Giving her too much information. But great video!
You're amazing dude! Talented and personable, I'd donate to your fund page, $10. sorry i'm poor, but luv mechanic info..(luv the tattoos my baby grandson loves our solar system)💖
We need more honesty in mechanics just like you bro good man..💯✌️
Unfortunately these engines burn oil. If you top it off they are bulletproof.
How do you blow up a frickin' old-tech Toyota??
The timing chain king strikes again!! Love the content bro
Low km 2nd hand engines are worth their weight in gold
much of your time is to explain to the customer.
Be sure to use terms like 'harmonic balancer' and 'timing chain' with a person who has zero car knowledge.
6:36 a la croix😂😂😂
That look when she said she heard a pop. Yep. As tech that's the proper reaction.
I wish everyone had a basic knowledge of mechanics.
As a former business owner you hafta charge something for than in depth analysis otherwise you will be outta business,as said.
2:54 someone will ask me a question about my ranch 😅😅
This is basically me explaining my ranch 😅😅😅😅 only my gf ain't yelling shut up at me lmao
Jesus christ.....how many miles are on this?? A toyota with a broken timing chain??? That should never happen of the oil has been kept clean
To do the chain youre gonna have to take the engine out. Couple that with diagnostics etc etc. Just swap engine at that point 100%
Yeah , timing chain goes , valves get damaged that’s it for that engine
Even if the valves aren't damaged (and they probably are) would you really want to take a chance doing an expensive repair like the timing chain, after those bearings, cam, etc. were starved for oil?
Nope lol. He’s too nice to tell her she needs an engine. He probably has hope it’s just the timing chain but why take the chance and do all that work?
