My wife and I have followed your youtube channel for a couple of years. We look forward to each episode. We have started container gardening this year and just put in our Napa, Collards, and Kale. We use your method of making our own soil. I have a question though. We want to know how we as Organic farmers can minimize insect damage to our crops. We go out each morning very early and pick off the caterpillars and bugs. Do you use any type of insecticidal spray on your crops? Thank you for answering.
For caterpillars spray with Thuricide BT. For chewing insects use 100% Cold Pressed Neem Oil. For cucumber beetles and squash bugs I use Spinosad. All of this is organic
I really appreciate how Hollis teaches his gardening methods step by step from seed to harvest and how Hollis and Nancy give God the glory. I really enjoy these videos. Thank you. God bless.

You two are amazing and such a blessing to many!! I'm in central Florida and have been gardening for 10 years.I've never had luck with spinach or carrots. Now that you are in Florida when do you start spinach and carrots?
That's a great tip, to stagger planting so all is not lost if something happens. I didn't realize it would be tricky to do spinach from seed. No sooner was I struck by the sound the leaves make when pressed together, than you said it yourself! Such big, beautiful, healthy plants! I'm embarrassed to say I've never seen the full growth cycle of spinach until now. Thank you for another wonderful video.
Thanks for sharing this video and the information about growing the vegetable garden. You are very patient and I appreciate you and Nance for Her support. Good job and I will revisit your posting. 💯👍🏾🙏🏾
Dear Holli and Nancy. I admire all you do and simply love you. I have a great tip to share how to make spinach germinate with 90%+ rate. It des not like to germinate if temperature is above 15 C degree. So, take a tray with small cells, place two seeds in each and keep it in the fridge (in the plastic bag) over night, and out during the day. This will trick it that it is cold and germinate in 7-14 days. Then once germinated it can be replanted in bigger cells if desired. All the best to both of you. You are a real inspiration for all of us.
I find myself doing some head rolls and nodding just to limber up my neck for the head shaking I KNOW I'm going to do at the end of each video, out of amazement!! I experienced VERY slow, and hard to tell what's what germination this year with Parsnips, that got planted in an area that had coriander in it last year. Both are notorious for being slow to germinate especially direct sown into an earth garden, AND both look very similar as seedlings!! It was easily a month before we could safely weed it. Pulled 100's of coriander growing as volunteers once we could truly determine which was which!!! 👍 This video, I think was almost more of a tenacity lesson as much as it was a Spinach growing video. 28 days it said on the seed pack, however 2 weeks, 2 weeks, days ahead,,,,,, we'll be back. Your encouraging words started ringing in my ears, "You can do this" "Don't give up" Wise man! 👍👍👍👍👍 TYFS, Stay Safe and Well Mark and Rosa

Ive had great success with seeds in our much cooler temps here in WI zone 4. Spinach, lettuce and kale all like our poor sandy soil so spring and fall even with frost they do well and I just throw the seeds in the ground and cover lightly. If ifs a bit too cold, I put a frost blanket over them. Same with basil bit in warmer temps. I don’t have any luck at all with any of those flimsy hardware store plating cells trays. You sure are right. We eat a lot of spinach in smoothies and each container cost us $4.99. We planted some in the spring from starts and it was a great start. I started some from seed to follow but they didn't germinate. It got too warm. I waited until two weeks ago when the temps dropped and planted half of an 8'x4' bed but two weeks later and the germination is very spotty. I am going to follow your lead and plant some in cell packs and pray for better germination so that I can transplant them in my winter garden. I have been trying to get plants established in my raised beds so that when I cover them they can make it through the winter.
@@HollisNancysHomestead Thank your for your encouragement. I am now picking green worms every day off my baby kale plants in three beds. Any suggestions on stopping them. Two of the beds are covered and those white moths are still getting on them.
So interesting to see your process, I always direct sow all my greens here in Boston and never really think about them due to our cooler weather Excellent video!
I've planted seeds twice this year. So far no luck. The first time it was too warm. I tried to get starter plants at Home Depot & Lowes but I've NEVER seen their garden selections so low. So, I'll keep trying with seeds. Your efforts & difficulties got me inspired! I'm going to try the soil mix.
Thank you so much!!! I’ve been struggling hard with spinach and learned a lot with your videos. Even making my own soil, never had so much manure in my life. Thank you!!

Start your seeds when the high temps are 72 degrees
@@HollisNancysHomestead Thanks. I watched your other video on how to make the starter seed-soil & I subscribed to your channel!
Welcome to the family ❤️
Beautiful spinach
Do you have to fertilize some more after putting the bloodmeal after the transplant? Love all your videos, keep them coming thank you 🙏🙏🤗🤗
No need
@@HollisNancysHomestead thank you for the quick response
Excellent! Enjoyed watching!
Thank you so much!!! I’ve been struggling hard with spinach and learned a lot with your videos. Even making my own soil, never had so much manure in my life. Thank you!!
You are so welcome!
