Thank you again for the heads up I had been busting for over 3 years to find a copy of McCall's 5225 from the '40s and Nearly went down that rabbit hole of 83,000 free patterns you saved me the trouble and I went to Copa's Pattern Archive and found the pattern front cover and Layout. I may have better luck making one in my size from my own Basic pattern blocks then killing myself finding a reprint in my Size I'm 6 foot 1 and have some fit issues for sure LOL
Thank you!! When I first found this Wiki page I was so confused about where the actual patterns were and have been avoiding it ever since. Sounds like there are actually some pretty cool ways to use it :)
Thanks for this video stephanie! i'm about two and a half hours into this hobby, and this site confused the hell outta me! I have a question- why is there no real pdf archive of vintage sewing patterns online? or if there is, why is it so hard to find? i'm sure its because these are copyrighted like books but i can pretty easily find any vintage book or comic or movie or what have you online somewhere, why are sewing patterns specifically so rare? is it because nobody wants to kill their business selling physical copies?
I LOVE Lilli Ann dresses, suits and coats from 1940's and 1950's. I'm not a strict vintage sewer but I'll take details from old patterns. Thank you for the resources.
Thanks for the info. I had never seen that site before. Kind of interesting when you're just looking at the covers (my favorite thing to do). I went to your website also and was going to favorite it on my toolbar and guess what -- I already had! I believe I bought something from you this past year. Small world. Enjoying your videos and just subscribed.
10/10 saving this to send anyone else who tags me in this frickin stupid clickbait. It's such a good website why they gotta do it dirty like that. Also, that Mccall's 9557 pattern - I have two vintage (store made) robes JUST like it and now I am gonna hunt it dooown.
Thanks , I never got past the initial realization (on that site) that there was no mention of accessing free pattern copies . Now at least I know its usefulness afterall .
I discovered that post yesterday, looking for a vintage pattern and got really confused trying to access the pattern I want. Not too tech savvy so just ended up getting really angry and frustrated. I will have to go over your post a few times to find out how to get what I want. Thanks for your help.
I work on theater. I use it as visual reference to Shapes and silhouettes. But been strapping my own for ages. Don't really use them. I have 12 banana boxes of patterns. Kind of my security blanket
Yes, it’s definitely a great resource! I wasn’t aware of the clickbait title they have though.. hehe. Thanks for this comprehensive video covering what site can be used for!
Hello I love your channel ! And love of course sewing vintage clothing but sometimes grading is not easy , speacially with full bust adjustment .. I would like to found some patterns like house of foxy ..
Oof that dang clickbait! I made this so we can all collectively stop wasting valuable time explaining. Just share this video every time you see it come up. That is very truly why I made it.
Even if there was a repository of 83000 free vintage patterns on the internet...I would still want to buy the physical pattern, I'm assuming a lot of people that like vintage patterns like me are fans of vintage ephemera in general and just enjoy having things that are really old that you can hold in your hands.
OMG you know how many people in my dang life tell me that free vintage patterns are now available online!? OMG yes it is so so so annoying. SO ANNOYING. You know, watching this has upped my motivation to sit down at the thrift store and go thru the huge glut they have to weed out the 5-20 patterns they have that are almost free (cheap) … just takes such a huge amount of time. And now … we're all in masks. I don't sell, but dang man I am a pattern appreciator and lover and maker.
Oh I know, thrifting in masks is a pain but at least we are trying to stay safe! If you share your scores on IG or Twitter be sure to tag me (BackroomFinds) as I love to see what others find. Happy hunting!
There should just be a rule that if you are seeing something on your timeline about a craft you don’t actively participate in online, anyone you’ve seen post more than twice regarding said craft saw it 3+ months ago. So just don’t. 😂
... Fortunately people in my life are well aware that you NEVER send anyone a link to anything without checking it out yourself, at least substantially, first. It's like mansplaining. Do I have reason to believe that this information is something which the recipient, who has a stated interest in this subject matter, won't have encountered already? Is this information new? Nuanced? A different take? Are you sharing it in order to discuss it with the recipient or get their opinion on it?
Yes. Had it been marketed for what it is meant for, I would have been just as enthusiastic, but now... bah. Clickbait works once. Then it has the exact opposite effect.

There really are! I am glad I helped clear up some confusion.
PREACH. OMG. If I had a nickel for every time this popped up in my feed over the last 10 years...
We would all be very rich! Cause this thing is crazy when it does come up.
So excited to learn people can add posts. I recently picked up several Ladies Home Journal patterns that are not listed yet.
Oh absolutely! They have messed with the formatting a bit since I launched this, but it is basically the same to add a new pattern.

Thank you Sue! I am glad I can provide some lovely eye candy!
I love your channel you have the best sense of humor! I've been binge watching your videos for pattern ideas
Thanks for this! I'm a new sewist and I was so confused by that article. 😅
Of course! I know I was concerned the first time I saw it too!

Thank you so much! Trust me I hate the dang thing as much as anyone. Plus, I was tired of writing a small novel every time I saw it.
The reason why it cuts right after the Buzzfeed joke is because the cameraman is laughing hysterically for several seconds afterward...
Ned Canada truth.
Omg you’re so cute. Thank you for the info. I’ve also gotten sent this link OVER and OVER ! Lol
Thank you so much for watching! And now we can respond with this video linked! BWAHAHA!
Hiya those stunning old 1930s dresses I used to see in the old films…can they be made for larger sizes?
I'm binge watching you❣️❣️❣️ I love your videos
Aww!! Thank you so much!
Preach it!!!!! I use this site to post the patterns I have for sale. I despise clickbait!!!!!
Thanks , I never got past the initial realization (on that site) that there was no mention of accessing free pattern copies . Now at least I know its usefulness afterall .
Oh my word so fun!!! Wow I never even knew the Wiki page existed!!
Oh yeah! It is one of my favorite rabbit holes to fall down! I find so many amazing patterns I never knew existed there.

This got lots of lukes. Good job.
Yay you, Thanks for the mention and the info.
Thank you so much for watching! Let's share the knowledge instead of the clickbait.
@@StephanieCanada Right! Sounds great
Thanks sooo much for sharing this information!❤️❤️❤️
Do you have men’s patterns from 60’s-70’s?
I love when you and your camera-spouse sass each other. Heh.
Welcome to a taste of our actual house, all the time. :)

I understand the banana boxes.

Absolutely! I made this so that this dang thing now has an easy counter video. I am actually planning on doing a deeper level dive into the Wiki soon.
I like this, informative and entertaining. I learned something new!
I am so happy to help! Thank you for watching.
I did not know about the wish list!!!!
Very informative, enjoyed your video!
Thank you so much for watching! I will try and keep things just as entertaining in the future.
Wish I could like this more than once.
Thanks so much! Just share it like candy, that is all I ask. Especially if you see it coming around again.

You are right grading isn’t easy. But the end product is so worth it!
THANK YOU for putting this video out there!!! I'm still getting links sent to me.

Yes, I did see them Stephanie with their 80 thousand free patterns, if only that were true! Not a Chance.

Right!! Oh man that silly article.
IMDb all the things
Yup.
Yes, it was deifintely click-bait. I haven't seen that one in a while now but it was everywhere in my facebook for a while
I know, thankfully the dang thing is dormant at the moment. But if it surfaces again, we come prepared!
@@StephanieCanada Yes :)
Yes. Had it been marketed for what it is meant for, I would have been just as enthusiastic, but now... bah. Clickbait works once. Then it has the exact opposite effect.
This video is click bait
How is this video clickbait? I explain all about the Wiki which is what was promised.
