Korean numbering is just so confusing
I laughed way to hard at this
korean number system is like 900,0000 but the numbers still display in the english way 9,000,000 so it's difficult to convert sometimes, having to count the number of 0s rather than be able to glance at the commas. like if u encounter 900,0000, u'll be like wait.. 900k? no.. 6 zeroes... that's 9m

For those who don't know korean numbers, their numbering is just confusing. This is how they count
1k - 천 (cheon)
10k - 만 (man) *the confusion starts here*
100k - 십만 (ship man) *literally mean ten man*
1M - 백만 (baek man a.k.a one hundred man)
10M - 천만 (cheon man a.k.a one thousand man)

tbf, even when I'm just learning so I can't remember them well yet, it's not really that confusing and they DO make sense. Like,
> 십 is 10 and 만 is 10,000
> 10 (십) x 10,000 (만) = 100,000
> So 십만 is 100,000 [and, honestly, how is this different to its name in English where it's the same logic but you multiply 100 (one hundred) x 1,000 (thousand) instead so that's why it's called "one hundred-thousand"? So it's not confusing but you're used to a different way of "multiply" it in your head 😂]
> 백 is 100 and 만 is 10,000
> 100 (백) x 10,000 (만) = 1,000,000
> So 백만 is 1,000,000
> 천 is 1,000 and 만 is 10,000
> 1,000 (천) x 10,000 (만) = 10,000,000
> So 천만 is 10,000,000
Also, notice how all of these end in 만 so it's not just a random multiplication but all are by 10,000 which is the number you have to remember always.
Somehow, I think Sino-Korean numbers and how they're all about multiplication are easier to grasp (when you're learning them) than having to learn different names every ten units like most languages have, pure Koreans included, and their little difference (I mean, just for instance, it's not like 50 is fiveteen or even fivety, right? So, when you have to learn English, those are complete words you have to memorize and they don't have any logic why it's called fifty but in Korean it's literally 오십 where 오 is 5 and 십 is 10)

Ely G sino-korean is so much easier imo than the native number system! i still forget the native korean numbers beyond 29 HAHAHAHA plus the multiplication in the thousands and the “addition” in the numbers beyond 10 in sino-korean is so easy to remember
