    What a great band, not just a Southern rock band. They mixed rock, country, western, bluegrass, and even jazz elements into their unique sound. And they were superb musicians who played off one another and well together like a band should.

    Toy Caldwell damn he knew how to write a killer song the best of his time. His music still stands the test of time I have it on my digital alarm clock and hear him jamming every morning before i cut out for work. Back in the 70's who knew where we'd be now. My favorite Marshall Tucker band songs are the ones he sang, not that the rest of them arent all good its just the power in his voice, do some shit kicking tearing that les paul up. And Tommy I remember the boys playing 24 hours at a time and it came to his bass solo. He was wearing a big cowboy hat and the spotlight was beaming down on just him sorta bobbing up and down playing the notes building it up into a big ol orgasm of southern shit kicking feeling good soul stomping blast off into the ozone goodness. Damn whats this world coming too if I didnt know I'd say it looks like the end to me...... peace to all my brothers and sisters who rode the same trip my God we had some great times and kick ass music

I love them, like if they were my family, the day of my mother’s funeral, 2013 she passed at 77 years old, I hired a group to play her favorite song “heard it in a love song” she loved to hear the flute, in MTB I can’t say that’s the only reason myself & my colleagues loved them, the lyrics we’re phenomenal, the melodies, MTB music brings the most beautiful memories in my life. We all are proud American of her sons who musically bring the pain of Love to sounds of music, much like the influence of the blues the other great story telling music genera countries tender side from a rogh bunch a fellas blows your mind and touchs your heart every time those stories tellers give us some LOVE. Have seen the Tucker Boys many times. I remember long ago me & a few friends headed off to SUNY Delhi in the Catskill Mountains in New York state for a concert prior to me going to college there. We stayed in the only hotel in Delhi & just happened that MTB spent the night there themselves. We drank & partied all night with the boys. Good times & great memories indeed!

    As a former sound tech, Tucker is the only band I have ever been the sound tech and the lighting director for on subsequent tours. Around the "Just US" tour, the band had repeatedly asked their studio guy, Sam Whiteside, to go mix them on a tour. Unexpectedly, he agreed so they called me up and told me I'm fired as a sound tech and hired as a lighting tech. Thanks to Jim Chapman, Michael Jackson's Victory Tour lighting director, for explaining to me how light consoles work and what the basic moves are. Best regards to my buddy, Barry Borden, the curent MTB drummer and former Mother's Finest drummer. So sorry to hear about Brenda.

    Jazz aficionado here. MTB might have chosen to play more "country" sounding music, and the Allmans might have chosen a more bluesy tack, but make no mistake: Toy Caldwell could have gone any direction he chose. He had chops most don't know are out there. Toy Caldwell is one of my favorite musicians of any genre. His phrasing is sweet and tone is crystal clear. He will (or should) be missed.

    The Marshall Tucker Band & the Allman Brothers were on the top of the Southern Rock pyramid, all the others were
    pretenders to the throne. The Allmans had the blues thing going while Marshall Tucker covered the country aspect.
    Cracking open a new Tucker album (up into the early '80s) was always a musical treat. No other Southern Rock band
    was as tight.

    • @stephenhancock6497

    • @mitchgawlik1175

      My mistake not adding Skynryd to the mix. Tucker, Skynryd and the Allmans played varied sounds. One
      song did not sound like another, enabling all three bands to have (relatively) long successful careers.

    • @mitchgawlik1175
      @mitchgawlik1175 6 лет назад +6

      Four different bands with four different sounds in the same genre, Southern Rock. None of the bands was "better", just different. My opinion.

    • @alanbiggerstaff164

    • @tradssalesone6334
      @tradssalesone6334 5 лет назад +1

      Alan Biggerstaff The outlaws were good but didnt have as many good songs. Let's not forget CDB, which had the closest sound to MTB. I never cared for the Allmans, just too bluesy for me. Although I generally like country and bluegrass more than rock, I liked Skynyrd the most of them all and they were more rock than the others. Doesnt make sense.
      But some of the MTB songs were just amazing.
