18:44 (No spoilers, just a reminder) Toshiro got his bankai back and beat Cang Du but he was badly injured and collapsed immediately afterwards. That's when Giselle found him and Rangiku and zombified them. They appeared as zombies when Mayuri was fighting Giselle, and that's when Mayuri injected Toshiro with an experimental drug to defeat him. We haven't seen him since.. But we've seen zombified Rose, Kensei and Rangiku come back as Mayuri's puppets later on.
I think the best way to sum up how yukio and riruka are helping is that they basically made a stealth elevator to conserve energy and return to the Reiokyu undetected, they're basically the getaway drivers in this little operation of theirs As a bonus they canonized the first bleach movie memories of nobody
The Valley of Screams have been hinted at throughout the series and its based off of the movie "Memories of Nobody". Its the Only Canon Bleach Movie, and honestly one of the only GOOD Bleach movies, the only other good one is Hellverse.

The anime has actually gone out of it's way to make renji look worse by removing the NaNaNa scene where he's afraid to attack Renji even while he's asleep because he's become that OP AND maybe adding another loss that his character definitely doesn't need. They're not the only reactors that forgot about his win, and I don't blame them. Think about it, after their training, Rukia and Renji are two of the most powerful characters alive on the Gotei side right now and and with how we know the rest of the story plays out, you wouldn't even know it because they barely do anything. (Renji is useful at the very very end, I wonder if the anime is going to downplay that by adding more characters to the final fight)
