This had to be so heartbreaking to the judge. He lost and buried his own son just weeks before. To know that Alec blew his own sons brains out has to be so horrible and sad for the judge.
Where is the proof he did so? Sped lied to grand jury. U don't shoot 2 ppl 3 ft range with a shot gun and have less than 17 mins to dissolve it all. Idiot
What evidence did the state have to prove this? All i saw was 'He stole a lot of money from people and is a bad person, therefore he shot his kid and wife.'
You can tell when he said you killed your son it really got to him
Heres the thing there is NO evidence he killed his son. This was circumstantial case and the railroaded my boy. They didnt even gather evidence.
@@Bigbubba3031😂
Some people keep saying they don't understand Alex's motive for killing his wife and son. If you've ever been ensnared by a grandiose controlling narcissist you can see it. This guy would rather KILL his wife and son than suffer the humiliation of them finding out their suspicions about his addiction and financial situations were even worse than they thought. They had challenged his facade. They challenged his control over his money, property and reputation. They challenged his control over THEM. In his twisted mind, killing them would end the threats to his control and bring everyone else running to comfort and protect him. He had been lying and manipulating for so long he thought he could get away with murder. He loves no one, not even Buster. Hopefully Buster will get serious help. He's going to need it.
Valid point
Well said.
Half the reason why I have pristanthrophobia. The thought of being in ANY relationship gives me anxiety. I can't date. I don't have friends. A previous relationship got out of control and I NEVER want to be with another human beyond like work relationships.
@@chrisandrew7577 Oh Chris. That’s heartbreaking. I’ve had many losses so I have a small inkling of your pain. Have you considered therapy? 💔❤️❤️🩹
Or obvious to us who use common scence. He's not like us, doesn't think like us so not understanding the motive is understandable but when you have a mountain of evidence, he was going to be exposed, he was going to lose even more money that he didn't have. He's used to being in control, being able to get away with anything. This is what happens when a narcissist is desperate and about to lose everything.
Judge Newman really did have a calm demeanor and was so professional, especially considering his own recent tragedy of losing his son, a 40 year old attorney and councilman to a cardiac condition.
My heart is broken for this Judge to whom loss of his child , at this time must have been an even greater sense of this awareness of loss .
How he kept his own heart in check during this trial is heroic ❤
as he watched over this case . He continues on, his calm is so miraculously witnessed by the entire world , community and families .He maintained order.,respect to the facts, the process , by law , conduct of his courtroom for the prosecution and defense council were well prepared in this case .
I only know this , when I suffered the loss of my own son , I had to remind myself just to breathe ...The brokenness is " soul deep " . I am truly sorry for your loss . I am especially sorry to those who have suffered this same loss due to this Coward's inability to take responsibility . It's as though he is saying he has lied about everything but, this last lie , his final statement to the judge .

This is probably the first time in his entire life that Alex Murdaugh has had to face up to what he's done. After a life of wealth and privilege and getting away with every nasty and horrible thing he's ever done , this must be a complete shock to his system! It's about time he got a dose of justice and like Judge Newman said I'm betting that every night when Alex closes his eyes Paul and Maggie are there to remind him of what he did to them.
I can only hope they do.
You said that right on
Alex is so possessed by the evil one, I doubt he feels any remorse. Did you not see his HUGH BLACK PUPILS! According to many sources Alex’s already the charlatan of the county jailhouse. They’re going to have to move him quit often from one state prison to the next just to keep one step ahead of him. Pure evil 👿!!! Imo
Spot on !
I think they are going to reopen the case of the housekeeper who "fell down the stairs". He's been a murderer for years and years. And he passed that careless, everybody-else-is-worthless attitude to his son, who has already caused somebody else's death.
Paul's video of the dog in the kennel was the Holy Grail. This story is right out of a movie.
He got his killer convicted from the grave. Downright spooky.
What a wonderful, eloquent judge. He gives such "disappointed dad" vibes I wouldn't be able to bear facing him in fear I'd done something wrong....
What’s so sad is the fact that Judge Clifton Newman’s 40 year old son had just died of a massive cardiac arrest on January 3rd, 2023. Judge Newman still handled himself with class and dignity just like he always has, even when he was a lawyer he was a wonderful steady gentleman. It was hard watching him talk about Paul still being young and not having time to grow into a good man because Judge Newman stated anytime he was around Paul he was always very respectful and polite to him and knowing how he’d just lost his son at only 40 it had to be hard to understand how any father could kill their own son plus his wife and mother of his children. Judge Newman has always been fair but he would also not hesitate to take control in his courtroom as needed.
P.S. Please forgive all grammatical errors because I have (MS) which causes so many problems and issues due to medical issues that affects my comments and sometimes I’m afraid they’re not even understandable. Thanks 🙏🏼 and no pity because I have my loving husband and amazing family. The researchers have made tremendous strides in the treatments and medications for (MS) which has helped keep me out of a wheelchair plus will add years to my life so I can continue to enjoy my wonderful husband, our amazing grown children with their darling spouses and our precious grand babies. So yes I’m truly grateful and blessed.
He is a great judge . He was also the judge in the Samantha Josephson case . The USC student who got into the wrong car with an animal thinking it was her Uber and he murdered her . He was so kind and understanding but also he didn’t take any bull . He held that court to a high standard and he gave the animal life with no parole. He was very gracious speaking about the loss of that young girls life . I was so impressed with him . Great judge ❤️ I just love him !

I read the judge’s wife was in the gallery and spends time with him that way especially since recent loss of their son. Very sad case for all parties but the jury got it right.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Alex died in prison. Also the deputy nodding his head while side eyeing Alex is a whole mood
If you're talking about the older gentleman behind Alex's shoulder, that's the Sheriff of Colleton County.
Well of course he’s gonna die there… he got two life sentences consecutively
He will die in prison. They aren't going to parole him.
Well I mean he got life so he will die in prison.
Wait till Alex starts writing appeals for inmates in exchange for dope. He is gonna start liking jail.
Shout out to this judge. He did a fantastic job every day!
He was the judge in the Samantha Josephson case ( USC student who got into an animals car thinking it was her Uber and he murdered her ) . He was so good and compassionate and didn’t put up with any mess . Love this judge !
Bruce, I have to tell you a funny story. My wife and I were coming back from Hilton Head South Carolina after a little time on the beach and we stopped in Walterboro on the day that the Alex Murdaugh verdict was given. We were having lunch at Cracker Barrel, and I mentioned to the waitress, I understand that Alex Murdaugh was found guilty today and that opened up quite a conversation. Apparently, since this trial was such a big deal for Walterboro, the city spent a bunch of money, fixing up the grounds of the courthouse, the streets that let up in to the courthouse for all the television and news outlets, I guess they wanted to present a lovely courthouse for the spectacle that was the Alex Murdaugh trial.
Dude was so ignorant thinking he could testify and talk his way out his ego is off the charts
He should’ve nvr took the stand
He's a malignant narcissist.
@@jeanakatherine9369 yup but his voice being heard on video at the kennel screwed him too but he denied it at first but then went on the stand in admitted it was him when he said it wasn't that was the nail in the coffin
I’m thinking he testified out of desperation
What exactly was he trying to talk himself out of? Yeah he made a fool of crate and waters, but that’s not exactly hard to do. The guy admitted over and over and over and over and over and over and over again that he had stolen from people, he admitted all his financial crimes, but he steadfastly maintained that he did not kill his wife and son.
Why is it that we can forgive Creighton waters for lying to the jury, we can forgive the investigators for lying to the grand jury to get the indictment, but we can’t seem to separate financial crimes on the part of Alex Murdaugh, from cold blooded murder?
When the judge said you may not have done this … but the person you became while drugged up did (not included in your recap) … that was epic
The "monster" he became.
It made me think of how Amber Heard described opioid Johnny as “The Monster.”
Agree. He said it may have not been you on 20, 30, 40, or 50 pills. But you as a individual did it. Something like that
The dramatic pause was epic
When he first said he may not have done it I was like wait nooo that’s not going to be good in terms of appeals…then he finished the sentence and I was relieved
2 jurors test pos for covid, one had an urgent care visit, 1 was kicked for discussing the case. They saved the very last 1 in a room alone during deliberations just in case. They almost ran out of alternates, that was wild.
"Within your own soul you have to deal with this" I pray for peace, forgiveness, and healing for all who have suffered and been touched by all these tragedies.
I’m not sure how deep his soul is.
@kellybeatty4623. He dealt with this appalling crime well before he committed those premeditated murders. What kind of “soul” does that?! One with no remorse or pity. If you’re into prayers, pray for the innocent victims.
Judge Newman's 40-year-old son died in January 2023 of a heart attack, just as the Murdaugh trial went underway, yet Judge Newman forged on with this trial of Alex Murdaugh for murdering his own son and wife.
Nevermind that Judge Newman knew Alex from prior courtroom appearances as an attorney, nevermind that he had to remove the portrait of Alex's father from the courthouse before the case was tried, but the judge also, just weeks before the sentencing today, endured the most horrific event that (sane) parents can imagine: burying their own child.
When I heard Judge Newman say to Alex who stood in judgment before him, “For the murder of Paul Murdaugh" "whom you probably loved so much, I sentence you to prison for murdering him for the rest of your natural life,” my heart broke for Judge Newman, for the Beach family, for Stephen Smith's family, for the surviving Murdaugh family, and for everyone entangled into this twisted web that Alex Murdaugh spun.
And last but not least, we cannot ignore the progress encapsulated in today's sentencing. Judge Newman, an African-American who was born in rural SC in 1951 and attended segregated schools, today sentenced a wealthy, white, Southern man--whose family "was the law" in the Lowcountry for a century, who was at the center of the good-ol'-boy network, and who was a successful attorney and even an assistant solicitor--to two consecutive life terms for the murder of his wife and son.
It is evidence our nation's forward strides towards equality accompanied by crushing loss.
I don't recall who said today that "there are no winners," but it is true. Every ray of light to emerge from this case was refracted into a thick fog of tragedy. So much pain still plagues so many within the community, and the reckoning has only begun.
This unthinkable case taps into every complexity we still face in America, and we can only hope that “the arc of the moral universe...[still] bends toward justice.”
It's not about color -- it's about character.
@Idebrobander that’s what you takeaway from her post???
A really great comment presented! Didn’t know about the judge’s son and his background! 👍👍
@@ldebrobander That's all you got from this comment? Say's something about somebody's character ironically
Damn.. a heart attack at 40 is crazy.
I had the same reaction and I'm not a lawyer. The anxiety is real. Alec controlled his own defense and acted like his own lawyer when he decided to get on the stand and in the end, he had a fool for a client. He removed all doubt the jury may have had the moment he took the stand. calling his son Paw Paw and carrying on and on lying about silly sh*t he didn't need to lie about. The Prosecutor's method of questioning a talkative liar like Alec was perfect! He let him talk and soon he convicted himself.
Abe Lincoln said “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.”
I personally found the "I would never hurt..." statement highly offensive with its BS smell, like jeopardizing their lively hood with his schemes and lies were not hurtful to Maggie and his sons. His statements proved to me that he has 0 feelings, 0 heart and no soul.
I was worried he would walk until he took the stand and showed how full of shit he is
@@annak8755 I noticed that wording as well and he used similar wording at different points. He never verbally denied murdering them. He just kept saying this such as that he would "never hurt" them.
100% you absolutely NEVER take the stand. Case in point Casey Anthony and OJ. If either one of them took the stand it would have been a guilty verdict.
I love Judge Newman! I can't imagine how it felt for him listening to how a man killed his own son in cold blood when he lost his own 40 year old son to a heartattack just 2 weeks before this trial began. 💔
So sad for the judge very impressed with him what a wonderful man with great knowledge
It really gave me chills when Prosecutor Waters described how AM would "stare [him] down" every day. I believe him because you could see the tight smirk on AM's face as he heard that. Alex seems like the type to do that, too. The sheriff nodding and giving that thundercloud side-eye was a treat. You know Alex could see him nodding in his periphery.
Addicts are some of the most manipulative, mendacious, back-stabbing humans on earth. I should know, I was one. I never killed or even stole more than pocket change from my Dad or the chair he sat in. But I could talk you out of your last dollar for gas so I could go see my dealer. And blame everyone else. AM is a narcissist and has been for his entire life. I fell into drugs at 17, battled it for years until I was 32. I lost my love, my home, my dog, my job, my dignity. And gained a second chance. Alex will be popular in prison, a wheeler-dealer, a charming con man.
From the videos of this trial I've seen, the Trial Judge was absolutely awesome as a Judicial Officer. Ran it straight down the runway no excursions.
This guy had everything and on top of all that, he had power in his small town. He got away with small crimes and he incrementally increased the severity of them because he was never punished. Makes me wonder what his father and grandfather got away with.
I watched this interview with a local yesterday and it appears that Alex was the black sheep for the most part. I thought it was pretty interesting.
ruclips.net/video/6PEqN1Kr-gg/видео.html
it's funny you say that because I *just* saw an article about how his grandfather died of suspicious circumstances as well
It’s entirely possible that his father and grandfather were good, upstanding citizens - leading to the great reputation that allowed Alex to behave as he did without repercussions for a long time.
From what the judge said his father and grandfather were well liked and respected. That's why it saddened him that Murdaugh tore it all down
Doesn't mean he killed his family and definitely doesn't mean the state proved their case. The jury was twisted and the state contrived with SLED to remove a juror that might bring a not guilty verdict. We haven't seen the last of this trial. US corruption at its finest.
Russia is the new America, by all accounts. America has lost its grip and place in the world. Sad sad times.
I live in this area and have many connections to the players in this story. A friend of 30 years was on the witness stand. The whole thing is so heartbreaking. Though I feel Alex is guilty, I so wish he wasn’t. How sad to end a family dynasty like this. This saga has consumed many of us in the community, and while the majority agree on the verdict, there’s also a feeling of deep sadness. This will live in everyone’s hearts and minds for a long time. Thanks Bruce once again for your informative insight.
That's so heartbreaking.
The judge gave us all some healing and clarity with his magnificent closing. Alex looked very ill and a broken man.
He's a narcissist... He prob wasn't listening much after thejudge started to say negative things about him. He's an actor, an actor who's a narcissists... He was "playing broken" don't fall for it!
@@AliceNsWonderland Ordinarily yes, however, that poor judge lost his son two weeks prior to sitting in that chair so the words he chose throughout were far more direct (father to father) whilst remaining professional.
@@mimi45945 Judge Newman's son passing away prior to the trial is pretty irrelevant as to whether or not Alex displays stereotypical narcissistic personality traits. Can you connect the two positions in some way be... Irrelevant is all I can think of.
I loved Judge Newman. So calm. So wise. Compassionate but firm. He just made it all so clear to the world. Especially how Alex may have been a different man from the drug addiction when he killed his wife and child, but he was the same individual. And then he and his family for years in those courtrooms have put people to death for lesser crimes. And yet he got life in prison. I’m glad he brought that up.
Me too! You (Murdaugh family) and your family and law partners, have sent many a defendant “upon the river” for life or worse and I bet some or a few of them were actually not guilty. I noticed Alex’s face react when the Judge said that. Many a poor White or Black man has certainly been on the receiving end of their brand of justice.
The judge said that in reply to Alex having just insisted upon his innocence. It was a wise and professional way of saying ‘bullsh*t’.
He made it all so clear to the world that he hated his guts to me, and that he completely agreed with the jury and would have been pissed with any other verdict, that’s what he made clear. He wanted to sit in the bench because he wanted to be the one to send him away, finally once and for all!
@@donnameans1030that’s not true. He said he had known Alex and even that he thought Alex became a different person.
I learned early on in my life from my parents that killing other is bad. I never considered killing anyone regardless. I am 40.

Wonder if that will be brought up in his appeal
That is so sad, I don’t know how he could handle this case. He did an excellent job.
@@aleiterful nope, both sides could have said something prior to trial starting and they didn’t.
@@aleiterful I don’t think so. I don’t think they objected or asked the judge to recuse himself. This is going to sound bad, but I wonder if they thought it would benefit them that a father who just lost his son would be more compassionate toward another father who lost his son, if he thought he was innocent.
He did an amazing job railroading murdaugh. On the other issues, not so much.
If not for a dog catching a chicken. And two women that refused to change their memory when Alex wanted them to.

Never have a chicken and a dog been so responsible for life in prison lol. Agree!
The Honorable Judge Clifton Newman is by far the best and most fair judge I’ve ever seen. His demeanor and the respect he has received has been top notch and Justice was truly served in this case.
I love how comfortable the judge looks in his chair 😊
Like a Solomonic, yet grandfatherly, Judge. He should always be addressed as’ “your Honor” because he is an honorable man.
Someone posted a comment on that chair, saying it was on Amazon for $399! Always someone being humorous during a trial! 😂
I was married to a covert narcissist and I loved him but after 15 years I just couldn’t listen to his lies anymore. It becomes unbearable that they think so little of you that they think you should love them regardless. I was lucky I got away but not without the help of the law to protect me. Maggie and Paul weren’t so lucky. May they now RIP.
You know how dangerous it can be when they realize they're losing control of you. They can lose control of themselves in a blink. Was married to a grandiose narcissist for 13 years. It was a very expensive and dangerous divorce.

Terrible fall for a man who had everything. No words for someone who threw away his life, ended the lives of two people he claims to love, damaged the lives of so many other people whom he cheated and stole from. And he brought his clan to shame and grief. The judge was quite composed for a father who had lost his own son in Jan 2023.

Well said.
Judge Newman is an incredibly dignified, patient, kind, and fair judge.
I am SO READY for this video! Been waiting to hear your opinion!
I used to work as a victim advocate and would go to court with the victim or the family and waiting for that call from the court is very nerve racking. then when you see the call form the court your heart begins to pound. You know it is almost over but so scared that you are not going to get the verdict you want or was hoping for. One of the hardest things for a victim is not reacting to the verdict when it is read. We all have to remain calm in the court room. I had to hold the hands of many victims and give them a light squeeze to remind them not to react. We would give the jury the same respect we gave the judge, our office, The DA's office, would always stand for the jury. when people saw us standing they would stand as well.
Psychos and sociopaths always think they’re smarter than everyone else. Didn’t pan out so well for him this time.
My beautiful son was knocked down and killed by a car travelling at 62 mph/100kph. His injuries were horrific but he died instantly which is my only comfort because he didn't suffer any pain. I struggle every single day with the loss of my boy who was only 15 at the time. He was a mamas boy and one of the gentlest most loving people you could meet.
How Alex could kill his own child in cold blood under any circumstances is beyond me. It's made especially hard when you hear the kennel video over the chicken and bubba. Alex murdered him only a couple of mins later. Yes he also murdered his wife but to do that to yoir own child, he deserves a special place in hell 🤬
I'm so heartbroken for the judge and his wife and family

Bruce, did you see the look on Alex's face when he finally realized his dog, his "Best friend" basically told on him by making him say Bubba! He was actually showing a real 'wow' moment. He was so hit with a moment of clarity he'd not even thought about. Good boy Bubba!
THAT is "dreict evidence" btw, not mere "cricumstantial". The dog and his own son/victim are "direct wtinesses".

Good evening Bruce and thank you for breaking this final stage down. There are no winners and the judge has summarised the complex nature of the case very well. I live in Australia and I have watched films, documentaries and youtube vids on true crime in the US my whole life. This case has had me conflicted in so many ways. But Alex must look deep into himself and support his surviving son because he will need his dad regardless of being in prison. They can still have a loving and kind relationship. I feel for everyone in this case its very, very sad. Final note, thank you for being you.
Given the reputation of the Murdaugh legacy, I wanted to believe he was innocent, but as the trial progressed, I realized this man actually murdered his wife and son. Words cannot express the absolute horror I feel for Maggie and Paul during their last moments of life while realizing their own husband and father were murdering them. May you both rest in peace, Maggie and Paul; so sorry your lives were taken in this manner. You'll never be forgotten.
I couldn’t get to guilty on the evidence. I was appalled at the gaps in the investigation and the failures to search the house, the grounds and Alameida thoroughly. The time of death was determined by a guess. Even the kennel video struck me as normal, loving even. The motive was never clear to me. It seemed to me that Alex only brought more trouble on himself with the murders. On the day of the killings, he had just dodged another round of questions about some of the money he stole. The turnaround was fantastical and horrific. I think the lies and the attitude gave him away. You couldn’t believe a word he said on the stand. I am sure this was more obvious to the jurors in the room. This was hard.

Thanks Bruce for your comments on this. Yes, that judge is a wise and noble man. Such a heartbreak for Buster - he's effectively an orphan now, and will have a lot to ponder in the coming months.
That deputy, though! Wow -- if looks could kill! And loved how he was nodding the whole time, and how all the deputies jumped up and surrounded Alex when he stood up.
The "tangled web" quote is from Shakespeare - "Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive." From Macbeth. Another murderer.
It was the strangest case I've seen yet but the judge was outstanding 👌👍
The biggest thing that sunk him was the lying. Lying about him in the video, him lying to his clients, lying about drug's, lying about his suicide, lying about the sheriff allowing him to have blue lights in his truck, and I can just keep writing
I agree. The prosecution did not present a coherent murder case imo (the fraud/embezzlement cases were easier to put together), but in the end it didn't matter because Alex Murdaugh kept changing his story anyway.
@maam9243 you got the nail on the head. I think if they didn't bring up the law firm theft and he didn't take the stand it would have been a mistrial. Even the way it was a juror said 3 people didn't think he did it but then decided his lying led them to come back with a guilty verdict. The main reason I think he did it is because he did it on the day his law firm found out about the stolen money. He thought that his law firm wouldn't press charges on him because they felt bad about half his family being murdered. He should have just k***ed himself but only a monster tries living and murders others to get out of trouble. Just a Crazy Case!!!!
Once again, you are one of the best brand ambassadors for an advertiser on the Internet. you are very sincere with Esign, and you go about it the right away instead of just mailing it in and taking their money. It is quite impressive and your endorsement means something because of it. Congrats.
I think it's so sincere since something like eSign can have genuine use in Bruce's career, compared to say, a movie critic talking about testicle shaving products or such nonsense or about the worst vpn in the world that nobody should buy into.
This was an excellent judge and I know he was more than happy to hand down that sentence
I felt a chill when the judge said Alex had escaped the death penalty while the Murdoch DAs had sent others to their deaths. Very quiet little clapback about disparity.
Him: “Your head is pounding… Your palms are sweaty…”
Me: “Are your knees weak?! Are your arms heavy?!”
You tickle me because you actually say or give voice to what so many of us are thinking. I almost spit out my red wine because of you! “Your Honor, he killed them but it wasn’t that bad.”
I love the Judge, and that Deputy Standing behind him was GREAT! Thanks for sharing your Insight. And when you said "I want to chew my arm off"! I couldn't stop laughing!!!😍
Even better, Law & Crime said it was the Sheriff. He spoke at the end of the judge’s ruling to confirm his dept will investigate the leaked autopsy photo
Budge is jitch
Just found your channel! I have really enjoyed it, I worked at a maximum security prison and this has been great!! I have already spent way too much time watching your videos! (By the way you are a very sharp dresser) thanks for the tips and entertainment!!
Mr. Rivers, I really like your review and application of the law in these reviews. Absolutely awesome job. You are a natural teacher. Thank you!
His jail tapes, particularly the conversation about dove and deer hunting, having Jim go out to the feeders, its going to come back on him. Buster sounded like he was about to come through that phone line and stop his dad from self-snitchin' and implicating them all in the destruction or obstruction of evidence. This isn't over.
Indeed...we may never know the exact events that night, but for sure, there are still a lot of blanks/unanswered questions...wild case, and it's never sat right with me that they focused so much on him wanting to "draw attention away from/gain sympathy to advert attention from his financial crimes"....and less on some other very possible/likely scenarios that very well could have happened
He’s protecting someone, either Buster or the Hitman he hired to help commit the crimes.
The look on the sheriff in back of Alec is amazing…..with sentencing also. Justice was done for everyone in that community
Bruce, thanks for talking about how the lawyers feel and interact with the court before and during the reading of the verdict, that’s very interesting to hear
Can always count on my fellow Minnesotan Bruce to speak with logic and common sense. You and Emily D. Baker have had the best coverage.
I have known of this case from the very beginning- happened just “over the bridge” from my hometown. I asked, when you wanted to know what we wanted you to cover, I asked for this case. I’m so glad you did. In the beginning, I knew it was big, but never ever knew how big. Thankyou to all of your” team” for the coverage, explanations and reflections.⚖️
Thank you for covering this case, Bruce.
I haven't followed this one, but I'm so sorry for all involved, all the bereaved and the wider community.
The Judge really stands out as a man of integrity.
Rest in Peace, Maggie and Paul 🙏
I just love watching your vids. You explain so well but also your great personality really shines through. THANKS!
I’m still amazed the jury came back that quickly without taking a single note!!
There is a problem with the audio.
Thanks Bruce. A fitting end to a case that's baffled us for so long. I hope more jurors will share their story.
My advice if you ever have to make a choice ,
and you get to have a choice
choose a bench trial if you are innocent
choose a jury trial if you are guilty
@@garycadogan4258 I would agree unless you are truly framed for a crime. I feel a jury would believe a framed defense before a judge would.
@@clath2823
You are the reason I have to choose a bench trial
@@garycadogan4258 huh?

Exactly that's the reason right there in your own words

Thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy work day for this video! I saw it live, but your take was wonderful.
Mr Rivers, you are exceptional among the attorneys on RUclips. I get a kick out of your comments and I learn from your experience. Keep it up, Bruce!
I really liked Judge Newman as well. Glad he will be the judge in the financial corruption.
I hope they put his picture on the wall.
Oh what a tangled Webb we weave when first we practice to deceive ..
I liked Creighton and I appreciated his speech to the court. I saw it as he was giving an impact statement for Maggie and Paul since none of their family members were able to.
I have a feeling that that Deputy standing behind him has a history with him and his family.
He’s the Sheriff & has sat there daily listening to testimony. Even he knew Alex was guilty.
You gotta love this Judge, during the trial it was apparent his patience was heavily tested both by the defense and especially by Alex's continued lies and over dramatization each time Maggie and Paul's name were mentioned. He really could have let Alex have it, yet here he gracefully gets his clear message across without ever raising his voice. Exact opposite of Alex and you can see it is piercing his heart. Class act, especially knowing he lost his own son at the start of the trial. His words about Maggie and Paul visiting moved Alex so that he had to acknowledge it 👏
His son died in January
I hope Alex is haunted by the bloody images of Maggie and Paul until the day he dies.
He allowed prejudice evidence in and allowed questions that violated the 5th and 6th. He was either biased or wasn't paying attention.
I think AM was on 2-bars (2.0 Xanax) during the days of the trial, to keep him stoned and stoney-faced at the Defense table.
"Ah wuz takin' 'peels'!"
@@ThatDawgInEm so are you saying AM is not guilty or this judge was unfit??
I Love the seriousness of this deputy behind AM. Deputy is mean mugging the whole time and totally agreed when state was talking about AM eyeing him down multiple times. I am sure this Deputy has experienced this many times from AM as well!
Also love this judges conduct and handing of this case!
I am a middle age woman who does not like drill rap much but I love understanding the mindset of the young men (as a teacher) and understanding the behind the scenes of the law room. You are very perceptive. Thanks
Absolutely LOVE your channel. Can't get enough!
Did you know the judges son died in Jan.? How hard this must have been, on top of the working relationship.
I believe he was buried 2 or 3 days before the trial started
@@sittingindetroit9204 that so sucks
I did not know that. This must have been very stressful for him. He seems like such a nice man and fair.
I thought the judge was really amazing. It was the most clear a judge could ever be. When he said that Maggie and Paul visited him at night...WOW! I bet they do. Thanks again for a really good video. Btw, your theme song is stuck in my head and I don't mind.
I love the compassion. He offered him a way out, or at least a way forward. He should take 5he judge's advice
Bruce you do a great job... great content... keep them comming
What I found really interesting, though it didn't come up in the murder trial, is what he did with the money he stole from clients.
He channeled it into an account called "Forge".
Then, he did three main things with it, over and over.
1. paid his credit card bills
2. wrote cheques to his family members
3. wrote cheques to his law firm partners
Interesting eh?
Family and law partners. Getting cheques, signed by Alex, from this strange accounts.
And getting them over and over and over.
Do we think his law partners are clean?
His law partners got upset when they found out that he stole money from THEM too, and only then.
In Alex’s fantasy, he is such a loving husband, he left his wife and son all alone at the kennels, in the dark, isolated place, with no surveillance, poor phone service, with many guns around, knowing there were death threats to his son. Hmmmm, yeah, no. That doesn’t fly.
And just happened to know the exact few minutes he had to lie about his whereabouts. Soo glad the jury didn’t but a bit of his bs
And I don't believe him about the death threats either. He lies about absolutely everything.
To be fair, if he weren't a liar, that story could still check out....end of the day, Paul's video doomed his entire case. Man lied about seeing his murdered family moments before their phones locked forever. WHAT INNOCENT MAN WOULD LIE CONTINUOUSLY ON LAST SEEING THEIR MURDERED FAMILY??? From a common sense POV, it just didn't add up. He's the last to see them alive and lies...imma say he did it. And thought it thru that using two guns was smart
Or, text his wife, “I am leaving, do you want to go with?” He knew it was just CYA and, it worked- until that dog kennel video was found a year later
@@debbielockhart7762 ikr, there's no records of him ever filing a complaint of such...
Love that judge, didn’t get rattled once….we need more like him!
The pause after judge Newman said “Paul - whom you probably loved so much”… I just couldn’t help but get choked up
This was a great video, thank you. It was very compelling to hear this from a defense attorney.
I am a retired San Francisco federal court trial lawyer who has no dog in this fight. I was alone when this verdict was being read (how about that clerk fumbling, WTH).
Anyway, MY HEART WAS POUNDING BIG TIME!
eSign has been great but I feel like we need an eForms thrown in for variety
This was a great vid (as usual!), so good to hear about it from this perspective, with personal experiences thrown in. So many reaction vids on here, but this had the ratio of clip/discussion just right IMO. Thank you CLR team!
I’ve been waiting for your commentary on this! Thank you.
As a trial lawyer you had to know that a verdict in 3 hours means, more often than not, that the verdict is guilty. I have never seen a jury come back that quickly with a non guilty verdict as if they are leaning that way, they take time to carefully review the evidence and make sure of their verdict.
My verdict came back in less than an hour...not guilty for 2nd degree murder...Bruce was my lawyer ✌️
@@a10n3r2 Did you?
Doesn't matter now
It was a self defense case
Um, does O.J. ring a bell?
I knew he'd be convicted when the defense lawyer, before giving his closing argument, said, "good morning" to the jury, and they didn't say it back.
The being done with someone who lies all the time…
A friend of ours, years ago, was a con man Everything was a lie, except, part of his name. He was Great, funny, just a Great Guy. After he died we found out so much. It’s was Soul Crushing. We considered him family.
Still hurts to this day.
Love your shows! Thanks.
Such a horrific and tragic case…. He’s where he belongs, where he can hopefully do no more harm.
The one financial crime he took objection to his guilt was the check he cashed twice stealing from his brother.
Hi Rivers, Thank You, I really appreciate you of this Horrific Murder case. You’ve provided the Best analysis without Hyperbole! New Sub, I’ll definitely be checking in for broadcasts in the future! Catching up on past Videos.👍🏽🥰🇺🇸
My best friend and I went to the trial the Day Alex took the stand. We were shocked at the behavior of one specific juror! Sleeping. Covering head with a sweater. Staring at people in the gallery. Craziness! But such a cool experience!
We owe you such a big thank you for being so amazing, Bruce, educating us and cheering us up with consistent and high quality content. From the bottom of my heart, appreciate you! Days are always better when you post!
And thank you to the wonderful producer, Michael, as well, obviously!

the judge Clifton Newman was exemplary. this speaks to the level of corruption in that SC circuit. alll of the judges should be like this, they need to dismiss the judges that are in the pocket of harpooplian. this is why harpoolian is so pissed.
This lawyer is awesome
His explanations of important facets of the trial have been delivered to us in “ layman’s terms )
