- Arrow Rock is a charming small town in Missouri with a rich history. The town was founded in 1829 and quickly became a major stop on the Santa Fe Trail. Today, Arrow Rock is a National Historic Landmark and is a popular tourist destination. The town was home to a number of schools and churches, as well as a number of artists and writers. Dr. John Sappington, a pioneer in the field of medicine, lived in Arrow Rock for many years. George Caleb Bingham, a famous artist who painted scenes of the American West, was also born in Arrow Rock. William Clark, one of the leaders of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, lived in Arrow Rock for a short time after the expedition.
