I love cassette decks. I have a Pioneer CT-W330 and it really sounds nice. I use it to make mix tapes with my vinyl records and with songs from RUclips. My car has a cassette player so that as become my preferred format for music in my car. The tapes have a warmer and fuller sound than CD-Rs. By the way, I bought the Pioneer at a thrift store for $30.
MPX Filter means "Multiplex Filter" and is ONLY USED WHEN RECORDING from radio stations to filter the 19.2 KHz from the audio carrier of the STEREO multiplex from the radio stations. When you are recording from the tuner you turn the MPX Filter ON to filter that 19.2 KHz frequency that is audible for some humans and the tape deck will filter that up and the recording will be more qualitative. That's what the MPX Filter is.
I own several Nakamichi decks. BX -300, Dragon etc. I'm very impressed with the performance of the Yamaha decks. Even their lover priced decks like the KX-330 and KX-W362 Sound fantastic I found both near mint at Goodwill for $10.00. The KX-W362 had never been used.
where u buy it?
I've got a Dragon too and I sometimes wish I'd bought a cheaper deck. They sound superb when they're working well but they cost a lot of money to fix when they go wrong (and mine had a whole channel go down, smell of burning).
That a revelation, I’ve used too many brands to mention, they all have their merits however Denon was the underdog that surprised and impressed me
Yamaha are super decks . Even those 2 head decks are super . I have 2 decks too and they are my favourite ...
Decks like this is what got me back into tapes frankly. You have a very good variety of songs on that tape. 90's era decks are really the best ones ever made overall. The Amorphous heads were very good heads. Great clarity. They really had to make a leap in sound quality though because of CD. I love my 1978 AIWA 6800, that thing weighs as much as a receiver, and has more metal than most cars do, very high end deck in the 70's, but the stuff in the 90's was very well done also. I find it interesting how they basically incorporated the same kind of drive into cassette decks that were used in VCR's, just a smaller scale. Cassette changers are also an interesting beast as well.
DAT recorders used a miniature VCR-like mechanism & rotating head drum, but I am not aware of any cassette decks that did.
Thx for review, i can't wait for Sansui, all the best from Poland
Sai che hai un gran bel registratore?,dico sul serio.sono un fan di questa marca e il tuo modello mi piace molto, complimenti per il suono, decisamente buono.ottimo modello.
Very nice. I have the KX630 3 head that is getting a refurb. I really
like this deck and I think it's a sleeper deck. The sound is amazing.
It's nice having the play trim which I've figured out is an azimuth
adjust for playback. I'm surprised there are not more reviews of that
deck but I think it sold more outside the US. I just got Nakamichi's
BX100 and 125 to refurb. I can't wait to do a shoot out among the
decks.
I just bought a KX-670 and it sounds better than any of my six 3 head Sony’s. I am impressed with Yamaha.
I love your enthusiasm bro, and your accent :).
I love how the peak recording meters go up to 12+ and for metal tapes the playback must be very powerful when played back.Anything below 8+ is stinko when recording tapes on them.
I need to buy something like this. Agree he sound is good . You can hear it in some of the tracks you play
Nice machine this. I have the KX-580 and while it sounds superb the build quality is sub-par in some aspects, especially the tape door.
Hi my friend
I'm following your channel from the beginning. I am passionate about electronic devices just like you and many of my acquisitions I made based on your opinions that are some of the most sincere and correct.
I expect new posts from you with great interest this year too.
In connection with this deck I have been looking for a convenient from 2016 until now, but I found nothing below 150-200 euros and I do not have that amount for a deck.
P.S. - I want this summer to take a tour through the cities of Europe and I want to get to Amsterdam. Maybe we meet if you want.
Thank you
Getting a 580 soon. Got mine for less than 50 and honestly, it's about right for the price considering its a simpler dolby b-c single tape deck.
This is a lot nicer though. I might get this for me next deck and stack on top of this.
The 580 also has 'Dolby S' which this does not, although it is only 2 head.
Todo lo qe hace yamaha es mui bueno
The newer KX-580 and KX-393 mint DEEP sound all have twistid doors from YAMAHA
Yes exactly. Funny thing is I had just commented on build quality before reading your reply. It's all the more annoying because the sound from those decks is excellent.
Beautiful Sounding cassette deck. I own a Pioneer CT-F800 3 HEAD and a technics M63 3 HEAD. I want to one day own a nachamichi and a good akai.
Nice sounding deck. I recently found a Sony TC-K-555 3 head deck that sounds about the same as yours. It was my first 3 head deck and what it difference in sound playback and recordings it does. I too use a normal bias tape and it's playback was phenomenal. I the other day found a Sony ES series model don't know the number but it does power up just has maybe belt issues. I need to open it up and see but it is in nice condition and powers up fine. But for $7.00 US not a bad price for a 3 head with dolby S feature which i heard of but never recorded with dolby S.
+JBL “azsting64” G most 3 heads are good, for 7$ is a steal
i just picked one up at good will for $5.00 needs rubber got it all on order, ill post a vid once its all up and runnin
Pioneer makes the best cassette deck.
Got the KX 493. It´s similar ,less butons only.
Saludos
I know this is old but i have one but tis the 650 not the 930 but believe me those decks make good recordings
Yamaha KX-930 made 1990-1993, that time for $600.
+Sport Odevy 700$
I would have loved to see the machine you were praising … but I only saw blurry closeups. This was pretty pointless … a nice static total view … then it would have been easier to follow you. The sound was astonishingly good. And it was interesting. A pity. Prices on ebay are quite high … but to achieve those they need patience … often those auctions stay up on ebay for years. Observed some … usually sold when price crashed … well, here people do not want to pay much anyway.
I love my Onkyo TA 2800.
I had this deck when I was in the Army. I sold it. Damn I regret it now?!
Windex work wonders!
Nice 3-head! I would love a deck like this for playback of some of my cassettes that I do not have on any other format...
i got pioneer ct-s 820 and 550, next will be this yamaha :D
+floydtm in have here the tc-95, have to review it soon
How are recorded cassettes..playing on other decks?
7:20 - nice disco!
Perfeito me de papai
Muii bueno
Yep I have a Yamaha K-850 tape deck and it can't compare to my Nakamichi 581 in sound.
On a good Tape Deck you can get a nice analog sound not as good as vinyl but tapes.... Are a fraction of the cost of records. I have a few pioneer decks that i use. I've found so many great albums at goodwill for nothing that sell on vinyl for big bucks if you can even find them. Its just getting the right set up like anything else.
Auto tuning calibrates the deck for recording for best results with each tape
I have the owners manual for my RS-B905 and it says it extends dynamic range to 110 db.
This deck is very similar like Nakamichi DR-1, I wondering if this Yamaha records the same as Nakamichi DR-1
Hello! The device is sold?
There best duel deck KX-W 952
Where do you think the 690 would rank? I've read on forums it's one of the best Yamaha units.
De donde eres ?
do you know if this deck is direct drive?
+CubanoMX No.

where can i get one?
Tengo una guitarra yamaha
Y almoost ken not heer det joe ar from de netterlends. Y rekkoknijs de perfekt inglis eksent biekus y em duts toe.
Cool sound. 4.9 kg? My deck of 1991 year is better, they have 8,6 kg. :)
Soundwise I'm (sort of) impressed by this deck.
But "as a whole"? I'm not sold, Andrew.. sorry.
GTI1dasOriginal your deck is nicer for the looks, i agree
vintage stereo I will send you a small sounddemo in the near future. (an uncompressed wav file) Then you can judge how that GXC 750 D sounds like. maybe the same, maybe a bit worse than that yamaha. Don't know. we'll see. You may be the judge of that. :)
GTI1dasOriginal somebody who want a perfect deck almost never think of a yamaha. They think of akai and nakamichi. But they are always expensive. Sound Wise I really would not know which is the better one but the yamaha will be much cheaper because they are underestimated.
+vintage stereo oh by the way... I also recorded some FM radio.

The Yammy KX-930 has the best tape heads ever made, amorphous, being the hardest, longest lasting, least high frequency loss, and therefore least noisy output. You could use this deck on true chome dioxide Type 2 tapes (e.g. BASF CR-E II) without any NR and hear very little noise in the recorded music. Full stop. This was the best tape construction, save for the transport which was not direct drive.
