My Catalyst Machineworks Tasmanian Beast Class quad has a bad motor. So let's just scrap the whole set of motors and replace them with these RCInPower GTS4715. Why? Because that's what Catalyst Machineworks says is the new best thing. So... ummm.... yeah. Are they right? Watch to the end of the video and you'll see.

RCinPower is easily the most underrated motor manufacturer, their motors are some of the best.
Most definitely. The GTS v2 motors with the one piece bells are works of art.
The punchouts are beastly. You need an even bigger property now.
Oh man, I know that first pack on the new motors felt good. Nothing worse than an expensive build not performing the way it should, and nothing better than when you rip that first pack once it does.
You need to get someone to take some LOS footage of that qwad, it must look terrifying. but totally dope.
I'm amazed by how high the raw noise vibs go (up to 600hz). I would try moving up your lowpass filters from 40hz up to 100hz. Switch to PT1 and place a second PT1 at 230hz (on gyro and D-term). This may help with the wobble at throttle punch.

On 4.0 or 4.1 it would go better as the DN range can get up to 600hz (Medium mode). In 3.5.x, it only goes up to a max of 400hz.

Watching this 2 years later because I got a used X-class and honestly don’t have the experience to be messing with it. I took one look at it and hung it on the wall for another day. It’s been a good month since then and I’m still not ready haha… maybe in a few more months… It was a great deal though and when I’m ready - it will be there. I plan to fully dismantle and rebuild it though… It has almost the exact same electronics though I have 100 amp ESC’s and it is an 8s build.

Definitely funny to see that even though PID Toolbox suggests that the Yaw axis wasn't really responding that well, in practice that was actually pretty locked in for the size of craft that is - really nice flight, glad that wee beast is in party mode finally.

They sound better than the polar ones. 12s is 44.4v typically so 44.4 x 490kv = 21756rpm. It's the equivalent of 1470kv 4s motors or 980kv 6s motors. So really what would be good is 12s 950kv motors which are equivalent to 1900kv 6s and 2850kv 4s.

Awesome Beast-Style Rippage..The Tree Tunnel ! !!!! ! and secondly, the BlackBox Motor review solved the exact issue that my Marmotte was having. I knew it was not my motors (changed'em all) and was dreading changing all 4 esc's to get a good flying rig again (like my Chameleon and Rooster). Did my first blackbox ever and SCORE the rear left esc was bad.

Looks like you can mow the lawn and prune the trees while flying that beasty..... funny how back in 2013 575mm frames with HUGE motors and 12" HQ props were all the rage till blackouts were invented ...... guess its like platform shoes and flared pants..... wait around long enough and it comes back into fashion.....

I wonder if the bad motor was the same one that the ESC blew up on earlier in the series, and that's what killed it.

It strongly feels like the sound of D oscillations, but maybe just because I'm not used to this low motor sound pitch. Well ok those motors are probably beastly enough not to smoke with a single flight like that. Would have been so interested in seeing the next blackbox tuning step

I had the same problem on my 5", it was the 4in1 esc.
Hi Joshua. I am taufek. I have completed my build which is just a simple set up. 220 frame, 4 in 1 racerstar esc, sp racing f3 and flysky x6b receiver. No camera and no vtx because i just fly los and i am fairly a good flyer. What i mean is i can do flips and rolls. For this new build, i failed to put the quad in the air as the moment i pushed the throttle it will flip at at once on the ground. I have watched many of your videos trying to solve this issue but without any success. I built this new quad to replace the one i have lost due to flyaway. Same simple build up, same tuning on betaflight like the one that i lost but for some reason it still could not take to the sky. What could have i done wrong this time? Your response is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Had to search and see if someone else had already mentioned the terrible oscillations, for 90% of the comments I thought everyone was deaf or my speakers were going wrong. The thing was sounding like an audio cassette tape used to right before it got chewed up in the deck..!

This was on a default tune supplied by Catalyst, but there is a lot of room for improvement. Personally I love the sound even at idle.
I'm not denying the props and motors sound awesome, but when you punch it at 6:46 it's even super visibly oscillating.
Totally agree the beast sounds gorgeous when it's not oscillating though, it reminds me of my old 10" machines so much (albeit 20 times more controllable!)
Big quadcopters have really moved light-years since the days of SimonK ESCs and 1K looptime Cleanflight on a Naze.

Joshua Have you seen the catalyst machineworks, octo beast class, Looks interesting. Cheaper entry to the class,with lower repair cost. More agility due to lower mass at the ends of the arms.
I've seen it. I do see how having smaller motors would be nice. Still, the sound of these 13" props can't be beat.

Wow that was a big improvment. Was the minor oscillation during harder cornering from to much d min or d gain maybe? I would love to build one of these but it's so expensive and dangerous unless you have your own giant private flying area like you do. You fly that giant thing quite confidently too! Nice!

Did you come to the conclusion that you need to lower the I term to get rid of that wobble? I have a similar problem, but I don't think I have a bad motor like you because I swapped all four of them out for a different kind and same effect. To reduce that wobble I raised P and D to 100 and lowered I to 5 lol, but it's still there with the heavier MAS 13x12x3 props, and less so with the GF 1310. What PIDs are your running with the RCinPower motors?

Left motor when in idle seems to not spin properly, just when you start the flight before takeoff you can see it does not turn properly in idle state
I assume that's a trick of the camera.
Just a suggestion.. Try emuflight. It will probably fly a lot better. If you don't like it you can always go back.
This is BrainFPV Radix. No Emu target for it.
@@JoshuaBardwell still pretty new. maybe soon. they are still working on it. I had some issues on one of mine and it smoothed it right out. still run betaflight on my others cuz if it aint broke dont fix it. thanks for all the content. your channel is a big reason i got into the hobby as much as i did. every time i got stuck and needed some help i came running lol. keep it up.

My fpv video died in mid air and showed colored bars, like red green cyan black blue, etc. I have never seen that before, and its still broken. Evey time i power up its just colored bars. do you think it the camera or vtx, and have you seen that before? Also, I love the sound of that beast class flying. It gives me goose bumps :)
It could be the camera yeah. Probably not the vTX.

Great series JB was it the end result you wanted, i would be happy but what are your longest flight times, as always i have learned today but will have to wait til i am back at work to think about buying the parts to build. Covid 19 has a lot to answer to...
The flight time is easily five to seven minutes depending how hard you're flying. Longer if just cruising.
@@JoshuaBardwell Thats quite respectable considering it s a monster size, i built a 7 inch quad that i still use today, i tried a couple of lipos in different sizes and voltages my best time coming from a 3s 3350mah gave me around 15 mins and a 1000mah 4s gave me around 4mins but when i put my 6s pack on thats when things liven up, you make great videos that even the oldies like me can learn from so keep the great work up.

I have done a full throttle run. I think it needs more time to get up to full speed than my yard has because I had to stop around 70 mph which isn't that fast. But I think it can go faster.
