Our giant is amazing, friendly, and very protective as stated in the video. She has great intuition about people and their character. If your sketchy and look sketchy she will let us know, if not she has not issues walking up to you and letting you pet her. When my wife got pregnant she became even more protective of her and rarely left her side. Going to the dog park if my wife goes outside the park to change my sons diaper our giant stops playing follows her, sits at the fence and watches her until my wife comes back then continues to play. None of that was trained or taught just pure instinct. Biggest bark I have ever heard from a dog. She takes a beating from our toddler and never nips nor barks at him. Perfect breed for a family companion and protector.
Our first giant "Sugus" was a wonderful dog, great guard dog he lived with us in Alaska for 8 years, his last year was in Spain and when he passed it was some of the most difficult times we have had, after a year we decided to get another Giant "Buddy", certainly he is my best friend and I would not know what to do without him... giants are really special
I’ve had my giant Greg from Sylvia’s kennel coming up on a year. I never knew a dog could be so stubborn and moody, yet so loving and affectionate. I have heard them described as velcro dogs and the description is spot on. Where you go, your dog will follow.
Thank you for giving us a glimpse into your beauties life Sylvia gave me a wonderful 5.5 year old standard girl 2.5 years ago and she defies superlatives. She is now well into retirement and is smart/beautiful and outrageously affectionate. Everything I give her is given back then fold. I thank Sylvia for sending this precious little creature off to Canada.
I could not agree more. I got my Giant Schnauzer from Skansen as well and she is gorgeous! She has the biggest heart and fit right in to our family. We look forward to many more years with her building awesome memories. Giant Schnauzers are beautiful inside and out.
We just purchased a pup of this breed, we pick her up on November. I’ve done endless research on this breed, just researching the dog made me fall in love with them. Thank you, nice video
I have had two mini's, I now have the giant salt and pepper from Sylvia at Skansen Kennels, my research turned out she had the best. My girl is almost 3, she is the joy of my life, we are always together ❤ April
I'd love that too. But be sure to include points on 1. Service dog fraud that is plaguing society in the USA . 2. That there is no such thing as a legit SD registry 3. That a true SD isn't easy to come by if you want a dog that can go everywhere without issues. People need to know what a true SD is, how it's different from an Emotional Support or therapy dog and how fraud hurts people that really need a SD.
This is a short form of the breed. Never seen such a short and bulky Giant. A breed standard correct GS has a square build. The dog she started going to shows with seems more correct to the standard. We got our Odin 4 months ago. He’s 6 months old atm. I love him to bits and wouldn’t want to live without him anymore. He’s a challenge to train and learn to behave but gives so much back with his character, strong will and loving kindness (if he’s in the mood 🤣) Advice for people that are interested in one: get your shit together, lead a stable life, invest time in him/her on a daily basis and last but not least, stand your ground physically but especially emotionally.
You just gave us more information in only a few sentences than in that entire video. I usually love the dogumentaries! This time it felt like a diatribe of her life and not nearly enough about the breed. So thank you for the advice!!
Thank you! I was thinking that myself. And not all bulky dogs are just overweight. A lot of dogs today just have wayyyy too deep of a chest and just extra useless flesh to carry around.
The essence of this breed is not in external beauty !?! From the beginning, the Giant Schnauzer is a secret working breed of war! From the beginning it was "iron-breed for special purposes! Many years ago I worked with such dogs. There are archive videos). Nowadays it has been turned into a show breed in many ways. In general, an incredibly interesting breed, not deservedly relegated to the background!
You must have gotten one of the first white schnauzers from Skansen....we have a 12 yo black mini. He's got a very balanced personality but not sure introducing another new pup to the family...
I wish she had mentioned if they are a low/med/high energy breed, do they shed throughout the year, if their coat is high maintenance, do they require a lot of mental and physical stimulation, etc...
A DNA study found that Rottweilers and Giant Schnauzers are sister breeds. Giant schnauzers are more closely related to Rottweilers than to mini and standard schnauzers.
there used to be and some can still be found Giants with the black and tan coloring though it's no longer an accepted standard. So you might be right about the rottie thing.
A giant schnauzer is as a grown up a very wary dog. If he/she doesn’t know someone or something intimately it’ll bark until the person or animal is out of sight for a while. But, it’s a breed which only barks with purpose, no unnecessary or compulsive barking at all. My 6 month old barks at the smallest noise he doesn’t know but can be quiet for the rest of the day 😋
@@Happyflower_gyal hehehe...mine's super-calm too...they aren't aggressive...just protective. There's a difference...start yelling at the woman down the street then try smacking her....
Hey, I’m new to this channel, and I’m picking up a French Mastiff in a few weeks. Would you mind making a dog training videos with a french mastiff? I’ve watched your others, and would like to see one with a french mastiff. Thanks, and I’ll see you later.
Daniel I never liked Rottweiler, good dogs but something about them I didn't like. Evidently I am not alone as they are banned in a lot of areas like pits

Do you know if they also ship puppies to Europe?
@@zazaiwon87 Just find local breeders, the dogs bred in Western Europe are amazing.

We have had 5 dogs from Skansen: 3 giants and 2 standards. Great breed. Great breeder!
Thank you, I needed to hear that about the Giant Schnauzer.
I really want to buy one, I see now I really need to put in some work. I first need to find a trainer. Thanks
There wondered dogs

I'm on Sylvia's waiting list for a spring puppy now. Starting to get excited.
I have a mini and he’s the best dog ever.

yeah I thought the same too. Much too short. Bulk is probably the owner's fault but the height not being standard is Skansans fault.

I think she said he's young but I was thinking the same
I love them. They don't look threatening but they will defend just as well as a German Shepherd.
Great video this breed is high in my list and I will have one eventually that's a guarantee
Sweet dog! I still miss our standard schnauzer who left us this February .... Lovely rott too, still remember the one we had once.
Dirgni Flesuoh i miss my mini babies Rocco & Neo i once had as well. such a wonderful & great breed!❤️

Amazing Dog 🌍✌🏾🐸
Giants have always been interesting to me glad to see a good video. Also wanted to note you have never done one on greater Swiss mountain dog's.
Great video! would love a video of some working line schnauzers.
My first two Standards were from Skansen.
So why do you prefer them over black Russian terrier or bouvier?
Do you ever see salt and pepper Giants?
i wishd id had dog like that
I like them but I just love amstaffs so much
I noticed the tails are docked. Are the ears cut also?
Yes...they would normally be floppy like a hound
Excellent - I have an Australian Kelpie (there's an interesting breed) and a Border Collie, in Australia - fascinating companions. Thanks for this.

Can you do a video on the blue bay shepherd please
I need to know something,
I heard that giant schnauzers bark way too much outside, is this true?
Osvaldo Esquivel they are a protection dog, so it makes sense they would bark.
When they bark the erth shakes.

Do one one Greater Swiss Mountain dog please
My step mom dad has a minture schnutzer he a amazing dog but i never seen one big one in person
savage pitbull lover the minis are super cute!! :) i have one named Ollie!
Can you do a video on standard schnauzers?
Greater swiss mountain dog
Are the ears natural?
They get cropped and docked ☺️
But what is National Velvet?
Alyssa Roupas it’s the black dog’s name
Its also an old horse movie. Look it up!
I WISHD ID HAD GIANT SCVHNAUZER
can you make one on the standard schnauzer
I WISHD ID HAD 6 GIANT SCHNAUZERS
I’m indecisive about what dog breed I should get next, a Giant Schnauzer or a Bloodhound?
Could you pick two more different dogs? all depends if you want one that is smarter than you or brain dead.
i wishd id had 6 giant schnauzers
Like watching your videos bro very informative. wondering if you can help me out bro?? are there any real game kennels here in California??
Bernese mountain dogs next ¿ ? ¿ ?

Not a giant but its definitely medium.
Anche x me è medio xche’ ne avevo uno da bambina ed era più alto!
It’s a female there smaller.
Leave the ears alone.
This is going to sound weird but her voice is very soothing ahaha
Looks small for a giant.
