Good shit dude! I freakin' love welding aluminum. I've welded literal thousands of linear feet of aluminum structure and pipe...MIG, TIG, stick and even oxy/acetyl flame welded a bunch of 2mm sheet butt joints. My man, yr doing just fine. God bless you and truly wish you all the best. Aluminum is a truly different animal, but once you really tune into her, it becomes stupid easy to lay down seriously sexy welds with very little effort.

Recently I was in tractor supply getting dog food for my girlfriend. I always stroll through their revamped tool section, including welding equipment. And wouldn't you know it, they're selling Hobart aluminum stick electrodes. I thought to myself, "Hmmm only $9 for the smallest pack in the shelf, and I love making abominations with processes I know are NOT AT ALL recommended."
I haven't tried yet, but they're still in the shop taunting me to waste that $9 creating more material to add to the scrap bin.

An easier way to get your tube ends lined up - make a couple V-shaped stands out of angle and you can mark both ends the same. Similarly if you ever have to draw a straight line down the side of a pipe, use an angle as a straightedge.

Aluminium/aluminum is something you just need to weld alot of and experiment with what works for you and your equipment.

25 year's welding experience dang Im getting old lol. All types of welding. There's definitely some trolls that think them dimes just stack themselves. Tight spaces and weird angels can make " nice looking" welds tricky but the guy with the torch and helmet on knows if he bonded the metal regardless of what the weld "looks like". Mike Row. Lol is it really you. When I was a rigger we tried to contact dirty jobs. Boy did we get dirty.

My ambition is to weld aluminium. So I now have a mig/Tig welder. Just bought a wp 26 as a starting point now need gas and consumables. So I'm going to make mistakes no doubt.
You seem like just a normal working person to me but with flare, so I'm draw to your builds with interest.

In sort of the same boat. I discovered the long 4+ hour shop clean out/restoration and watched the whole video in two sittings.
Then I never really came back to the channel, even though I'm in welding school and watch lots of welding/fab related content.
I suppose the algorithm gods decided I needed to find this channel again after many months and I'm glad it did. I had no idea the actual fabrication and welding related videos were so good.
Tays shop looks like the type of place I'd love to work in. As everyone knows, much of the industry has its people with overblown egos, hazing, gatekeeping and a healthy dose of misogynistic tendencies. I don't get that vibe at all from the guys on this channel.
They just seem like nerds who love building shit, which happens to be similar to how I'd describe myself.

One of my instructors at the community college I attended worked at a Navy shipyard building submarines. This was back in the 70s I think. He did that for 17 years then welded for the Marine Corp for the rest of his 50+ year career. For a while he was the guy who administered AWS weld testing in my town.
Super humble, extremely knowledgeable and patient guy to work with and learn from. The school I went to unfortunately underfunded the welding program and most of the equipment was old as hell and rarely used. But this guy made it worth every minute I spent. He also helped me learn how a 25 year old Miller with two knobs on it can be dialed in and weld just as good as the few new machines the other students would only use .
A good man, an asset to the community and the school, and a guy who should be enjoying retirement but generously helps the next generations learn the fundamentals.
