They got drab and generic and just blended in with every other more "realistic" driving game. I like when Sega's arcade racers actually made you feel uplifted just by looking at the lovely bright and cheerful visuals. Sega Rally Championship was joy to play for both the gameplay and the view. This game may or may not be fun to play but it just looks normal and bland imo. The last course in the video almost got there, the one that looks to be a near remake of the first course from the original game, but it's not quite a appealing in this more "realistic" version anymore--but it's close. They probably should have had that as the first course in this game too, with the same two original cars as first choices.

They messed up part of the fun of the original Sega Rally here by having basically invisible barriers around the whole track, even in places where they doesn't appear to be any barrier visually. The original Sega Rally designed the tracks better than that by either having bits you could go up onto for some ways or walls and slops that were so steep you obviously knew you'd bang into them.
