Bosch Dishwasher Not Draining Fix

    I purchased a Bosch dishwasher with the expectation that it would last for several years. Recently my Bosch dishwasher stopped draining. Water would accumulate in the bottom on the dishwasher and would raise high enough to flow out both sides of the dishwasher door, towards the latter part of the dishwasher cycle. Although this seemed to be a problem with the Bosch dishwasher, it was not. I confirmed this after removing the filter and cover over the impeller to check for debris inside the dishwasher. I blew on the hose and confirmed that there was nothing obstructing the side pipe to the bottom of the dishwasher, as well as the pipe that runs from the dishwasher underneath the sink. The root cause of my Bosch dishwasher problem was the piper underneath the sink. The pipe underneath the sink that connected to the dishwasher has been bumped with boxes, causing it to angle down. The pipe underneath the dishwasher that connects to the sink should be positioned up and not down! Otherwise, sink water and garbage disposal water can flow down the pipe and into the dishwasher. My problem was linked to sink water filling the dishwasher and not the dishwasher failing to drain water as I had originally expected. I hope that this video assists you with troubleshooting your Bosch dishwasher issues too! Please feel free to share this video with others! Also, running baking soda and vinegar in a dishwasher cycle can help to free-up loose debris. Obvious, it its not safe to run Drano or similar drain cleaner through as a dishwasher as they are toxic and can also damage dishwasher components. Filmed in 1080P HD with an iPhone 5 camera.

She came in looking impressed like *o wow, you fixed it* then i just repeated language i heard in your video and sounded like i knew what i was doing. "o yea if you look at the tube that leads into the dishwasher, blah blah blah* LOL.

    I CANNOT BELIEVE I FOUND YOU!!! I rotated the hose just like you said, and now the dishwasher has actually been on ACTIVE cycle for about 7 minutes! It was going straight to CLEAN and water wouldn't drain! So, some repair person would have come in here, acted like he was doing this and doing that, and just turned the hose and charged me BIG BUCKS it's working now!!!! Thank you and GOD BLESS YOU!!!!

    After watching over a half-dozen videos of guys showing me how to disassemble and clear the drain on Bosch dishwashers, THANK YOU for the being the ONLY ONE to casually point out that all Bosch are designed to have a little water that doesn’t drain and is fact supposed to stay in the bottom of the drain. Remarkable it didn’t occur to anyone else to mention this tiny tidbit that literally tells me MY WASHER ISN’T EVEN CLOGGED.

    this helped me figure out my bosch dishwasher issue with not draining completely, as there seemed to be about 0.5 gallon of rinse water left in the bottom, i disassembled the impeller cover, and cleaned out the check valve to no avail, but then
    after watching part of your video, i decided to just have look at the drain hose, and ran another short cycle on the dishwasher.
    this flushed out the remaining residue in the drain hose, so now everything works fine.
    i checked and cleaned the entire drain line, including the vent, which went to the garbage disposal.
    i found this video very helpful, thanks.

    Dan, you the man. I undone the claps separated the hose from the pipe, they was so kind of obstructing at the end of the hose.
    Once again Dan you the man.

      Worked for me too. When I disconnected the hose from the pipe there was half of a pistachio shell obstructing the flow. Removed the shell and used the wet/dry vac to suction the hose and it works perfectly. Thank you! I was just about to call a repair person as I had tried a couple of things I read about on RUclips without success.

    I had this problem with a SHP65T55UC/07. Had a pretty simple fix. Mine does not have an air gap. I ran ice through the disposal to make sure that pathway was clear. Then, I started a cycle (empty washer), waited a minute, then canceled the cycle (which is supposed to also drain the washer). It drained properly and I cleaned the filters that had that slimy sink buildup on them. Smells better now, too!

    Really glad I came across this video. Our Bosch dishwasher developed the non-draining issue last night. Checked and cleaned the three filters - didn't help. I unhooked the hose coming out of the unit and ran a cycle. No joy - still didn't drain. Was about to call a service guy to come out and was prepared to drop at least $100 for the call when I did a Google search on the problem. The IrixGuy mentioned looking at a possible jammed impeller blade. Grabbed my torx screwdrivers, pulled the plastic cover, and - bingo! There was a small piece of plastic with some strange furry stuff on the end jammed into the impeller. A tug on it with a needle nosed pliers got it out. I put it all back together and the dishwasher is now working properly. THANK YOU for eh hint!!!

    Thanks! My Bosch also failed to drain in similar scenario (not the dishwasher's fault). I missed the step to knock out the plug on the dishwasher drain connection port of my garbage disposal. Not everybody has a dishwasher, so garbage disposal manufacturers plug the dishwasher drain connection port by default. Knock the plug out with a screwdriver and hammer - easy/cheap fix.

    HA! Indeed it was a little piece of broken glass at the impeller. Had never been in there before. Made a buzzing noise (no doubt the impeeller beating against the piece of glass), and didn't drain. Truly simple fix. You do NOT need to remove the top torx screws, just the one on the bottom holding the cover to the impeller (on the left side of the sump). Had this thing for a good fifteen years, first time it fussed (except the first one that was a lemon that was replaced in a couple weeks, this one's been bulletproof). AND neither the motor or the impeller was damaged; Bosch knew something like this could happen and designed for the washer's survival. How on earth that piece got past the screens is a total mystery. THANKS IrixGuy.

    Thanks man. I'm in Melbourne, Australia. I bought my (expensive) Bosch dishwasher that kept giving me the dreaded E24 code! I opened the filter and checked the impeller a couple of times - no dice. It had to be a water back-up prob of some kind. Your clip made me have a look under my sink and although it wasn't that the waste pipe was hanging down (my main pipe had an angled inlet so it had to be sticking up,) I removed it anyway and investigated. Bingo! Too small hole filled with rice! Cheers!

    Thanks as you pointed out a tiny item that got me on the track. My bosch is new and stopped draining. You said something about junk inside the backwash, so filed that. Did everthing else plus what another tech said about pulling the internal hoses on the side. Nothing. When I tried to remove that backwash stopper clip, it won't budge without muscle. So, I tipped the unit onto its front and checked. There it was laying on the inside of the door: a tiny circular pad/foot that the wife stuck on one of her whatevers and came out in the wash. I like bosch but this is the last one I'm getting. I need a meat grinder down there! lol A respectful salute to all the techs on youtube!

    Great Video ! I went to Lowe's about a year ago and got the BOSCH dishwasher, $500. And it has been one POS. I wash the dishes before I put them in the dishwasher. When I first got it I could not hear it run it was so quite. And sometimes I did not get the button pushed in all the way and did not notice. To clean the dishes it take about 3 hrs. 2:30 min run time and another 30 min to dry. And I am using the rinse. Between the little washing tabs and the rinse you lose on how ever energy efficient this thing is. I keep getting this code E-25 which is the pump motor. The motor seems to spin free and clear. I used a shop vac to clean it out. Took the racks out and tried to run an empty load. Ran fine up to the point to where it is suppose to pump out the water. Then it just growls and at me. Then flashes the code E-25. Perhaps all is not lost I think I got the extended Warranty. They stopped making quality stuff. It is all the same just different labels.

    • @IrixGuy
      @IrixGuy  6 лет назад

      My Bosch died a sad death. Instead of replacing with another Bosch, I picked up a cheap "bent and dent" dishwasher at a local GE dealer. That thing has been great! When they hauled my Bosch out to the street, they said "sir...we probably shouldn't tell you this but....." and it turns out that the back of my Bosch had been cut out and retrofitted during installation. I was not aware of that and was so frustrated by the situation that I told them to just haul it off and discard properly. I probably could have approached Lowe's and/or taken legal action to get my money back but I'm not that type of guy. Looking back, I should have though. Maybe it'd improve the quality of some contractors that Lowe's apparently outsources its appliance installations to.

      I hate to hear people being taken advantage of. I spent the last hour or so in Lowe's chat. Turns out I still have a year and a half on the warranty. So I will have to see how that goes. Well Happy holidays to you !

  • @hueyjock01
    @hueyjock01 6 лет назад +1

    I had my water pipes freeze and quickly got them running with a hairdryer. Later in the day I got the E24 light on the Bosch dishwasher. Cleaned the filters and vacuumed all water out - still blocked. Finally unhooked the drain hose from near the sink trap and blew on it. Some air went through then blocked again. Hooked the vacuum to the hose and pieces of ice came out. Next time the pipes freeze, the dishwasher drain hose will get attention too, TIP: If you live where your pipes might freeze, do not throw towels and plastic bags over them. It gathers cold from underneath and insulates them from any warmth.

  • @bobmc1959
    @bobmc1959 4 года назад +2

    Nice video, But one major problem. Your plumbing isn't correct. The drain hose is connected to a dishwasher tailpiece which is supposed to be vertical. There should be a dishwasher discharge connection on your garbage disposal. If not you need to reconfigure the vertical piping from the sink. Everytime the dishwasher discharges it also trying to go into the disposal. Good luck

  • @maryhilke9143
    @maryhilke9143 7 лет назад +1

    The hose from my dishwasher runs to an air gap tube before entering the disposal. This is where a small piece of plastic wrapper got stuck and intermittently caused drainage issues. In the Bosch this also caused the cycles to get all screwy and run too long, stop halfway through or give me an E24 error. The air gap is a plastic tube covered in a metal cap that sticks up near your sink (water occasionally overflows into your sink from this) Take off the metal cover, pry open the plastic cap, and make sure the tube is clean.

    Error 25, not draining, I cleared a few pieces of egg shell from the impeller, seemed clear. Ran a short 30 minute cycle and still got error. Checked the hose into the garbage disposer in sink, it was in the proper position, ran a short cycle, got and error 25. disconnected the hose and used an air compressor to blow air back into dishwasher. It seemed plugged, then the water gushed back, seeming to clear the problem. Ran a 30 min cycle, no error code. Ran a cycle with the baking soda and vinegar, got some white foam and and error 25. Ran a full cycle , error 25, a cup of water in the sump. I am at a loss. What else could it be? A pump that is not pumping strong enough? Grateful for any advice.

    Hope this helps someone, but my issue was related to debris in the air gap. Popped off the metal cap, then squeezed and pulled off the plastic top to find some food particles blocking the tube. After freeing up the air gap, my dishwasher is running great again.

    I bought a Bosch about 6 yrs ago. In the 3 yrs while under warranty they came out 6 times to fix it. It has Never worked like they said it would. This is one of the worst POS I have ever owned. The first week I had this it was great. It is suppose to be super quite. But then it started this growling noise. Two different guys replaced the pump. Still it growls, just wondering if the one you have does the same ?

      I will never own another Bosch. I stick to cheap washing machines from the “bent and dent” section now.

    I fixed the error code E24 on my Bosch dishwasher. It is a drain error code. Dishwasher would not drain. I removed all water from the machine and poured 1 cup of CLR where the water would normally drain. I let it sit for 1 hour and then turned the machine on for 30 seconds on the pots and pan cycle and then let it sit 1 more hour to really let the CLR work. After the last hour I ran my pot & pan cycle completely and the CLR unclogged the pump.

    Fyi, the installer of the appliance didn't follow the instructions. The hose from the dishwasher needs to be run thru the cabinet wall at the very top so the water won't be able to flow back in to the dishwasher✌

    Do the Bosch dishwasher drain lines not already have a high loop at side or back, before it comes to the sink area?

      No, my Bosch dishwasher does not have a high loop. I had to make one on my drain hose.

  • @Nich0lasN0el

    I have an issue where when the dishwasher starts its cycle, we get a foul smell coming out of the sink drains. I checked under the cabinet and the hose coming from the dishwasher connects directly to the garbage disposal unit. Is this causing our issue and how would we correct it?

    • @Delogros
      @Delogros 10 лет назад

      Probably, the water is almost certainly adgitating somthing in the pipes which is causing the smell - 2 choices really, somthing is caught in a U bend or there are deposits of food where the DW drain hose connects to the disposel. In my experience at least - the DW pipe very rearely retains substantial food deposits that can smell so its most likely the main drainage so Mr muscle time :).
      Hope that helps in some way.

    Well don't just move the pipe in the upright position tighten all the ends the caps and said that it stays up you got to tighten that crap out of that thing

      Where do you pour the vinegar and baking soda? Also, how much quantity of each? I want to try that sounds like a good idea.

    That under sink plumbing is shockingly "not code" and it's no wonder nothing is working. Hire a real licensed plumber to re-install it correctly, per the plumbing code, and you will never have these troubles ever again.

    • @IrixGuy
      @IrixGuy  8 лет назад

      The sad part is that it was a "licenses plumber.' Can't trust anyone nowadays to do a job right it seems =(

      Please explain what plumbing part is not up to code as it looks fine to me. Except for the electrical box below the sink, which is not to code.

    • @pauljs75

      Part of problems like this is code varies depending on where you are in the world. So the next question would be which standard of code, and where in the world? (U.S. varies by every state and often by city. I'm sure it's also different in Australia, U.K., and mainland Europe.)

      +IrixGuy's Adventure Channel I'd personally use a clip to high loop it closer to the dishwarsher side to maintain pressure to keep the check valve closed.
