Its so rare to hear a song live that is better than the studio version, but thanks to the person who recorded this--what a rocking piece. Concrete Blonde is beyond compare. And its so great that they did something with their lives besides overdose. These are people to support.
I am a 51 yo cauc. man, and I first heard this song in a movie, "the hidden," back in the 80's. never got to see them live, but I love this music! this song is great. check out the movie, there is a lot of good jams like this in it!
One of the first DVD's I got because of the music and it's a good creepy low budget space alien flick. I first saw Johnette on USA channel Nightflight program when they first went on air in the mid 80's.and couldn't afford programming so they ran rock videos that MTV wouldn't touch. I still want to marry her today.
Great vid..great band... i have been a fan since the video aired ONCE on New Zealand television back in the day. We only had two channels so no MTV...music vids were treasured. Then the record companies started demanding money for them and the TV channels were like "no way are we paying for your adverts"...so for a few vital years there were no music vids at all on New Zealand television. Luckily i had a friend in Australia who would tape me hours and hours of "Rage"....an MTV like channel i think. Anyway Concrete Blonde and Still in Hollywood was the "did you see that" on Monday at high school. The only other bands that gathered instant love amongst my peers from one random video on the telly were Guns n Roses (did you see that song with the guy with the tattoos?) and Nirvana (oh my god did you see that kinda punk band...?) Johnettes "did you see' was "Did you see that hot chick with the grunty voice with the pumping punky band? This one tune (well still in hollywood rather than chew you up etc..) made me an insta-fan from just one viewing. My friend Jon by sheer chance video recorded it which was the sole source of any of my friends seeing CB until the interweb came about. and Johnettes voice just got richer and richer...i loved her further work too....still do.
GD Right! Whoa. this band has been part of my life since I first saw them on 120 minutes. Thank you Concrete Blonde. Thank You Johnette, I mean What the Whaaat?!!! Still gives me chills and gets me going. Thank you as well uploader. F*&^ing A!!!!!
One of my fav songs from my highschool years. So good. Played in on my Sears combo stereo with dual tape decks and record player. Wish I still had the original LP!
AMAZING!!!! lOVE THIS! I really wish I coulda caught club days! First tour I saw in Minneapolis was bloodletting and g-damn.....thought that was the be all end all....this is!! Raw and badass...and my god...that voice! Thanks for posting this!
I remember listening to this song while eating a mean chicken sandwich after a whole day of surfing.... Now I have to listen to some Australian crawl and I'm in heaven hehe
As a result of my career I know way more about Taylor than I should, having said that, I give her all the credit in the world, she is not at all like the others mentioned. Having said that, STILL none of them hold a candle to Johnette, my god that woman is everything a woman should aspire to be.
Man, if you can get this concert with better audio I would love to hear it. I mean, it's a little muffled and distant but it still sounds great....... must have been spectacular in person.
She wails like no one else This song is glorious, too bad this audio was recorded with a shoe.... Was waiting for the kvetching old men at the end from the studio recording... Terrific energy, saw concrete blonde twice at first avenue in the 90s glorious...
I seen concrete blonde live a few times . I also seen Jonette with Chris Bailey in the rocks Sydney . To me this don't sound like the best version of this song live or recorded.. the guitar and drums don't have that raw in your face sound that concrete blonde hits ya with.
I agree with jdcovington, they don't hold a candle to Johnette! In no way possible could some Disney-manufactured pop be as raw and beautiful as Johnette. Johnette and others such as Kate Bush and Patti Smith could read the ingredients of gum and sound 5 billion times better than some nasal pop coming from their vocal chords. With all that said, I LOVE JONHETTE AND CONCRETE BLONDE! I wish people knew about Dream 6.
Love Joanette and this band soooo much👍❤️💯

It’s so raw like the song should be….great venue.
Yup
This song meant a lot to me when I was living in and getting ready to leave Hollywood. I wore out this cassette!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saw them in a small club in Chicago...Johnette didn't need a mic...just boom above them. Unreal...
Johnette.....total BADASS
Dammit I wish there were like 15 videos like this with good sound quality. I can't believe this band has so little video content. :(

JIM!!!!!!!!!!
Looks like this was on the “Free” tour. CB had a fourth member (bass player)
Technically this is not "Still in Hollywood" but the alternate version of the song entitled "Chew You Up, And Spit You Out."
I seen concrete blonde live a few times . I also seen Jonette with Chris Bailey in the rocks Sydney . To me this don't sound like the best version of this song live or recorded.. the guitar and drums don't have that raw in your face sound that concrete blonde hits ya with.
Besides, it's not "Still in Hollywood." It's "I'll Chew You Up and Spit You Out."
💯
Best version ever? Maybe if the audio was better. Looks like a great performance though.
I can't believe it's been 23 years since their first album's tour.
What ever happened to long haired Harry the drummer?
Awesome footage, do you have more? Pls upload it! Tks!
I understand how you feel.
This is not "Still in Hollywood."
This is "I'll Chew You Up and Spit You Out."
Still rocks. :-P
@loungelizard5000
the shame is duly noted. thank you for your input.
