This is probably one of the greatest music videos ever made. This song comes to tell you that falling is all part of the process of learning to fly. This does teach us a good life lesson: when trying to reach your goals, there are times when you will fall. But you will learn from those experiences and keep trying until you can fly.
I saw Pink Floyd in 1988,15 years after I was introduced to the band in 1973. David is my go to guitar player (outside of Keith Richards). Can't compare, but what a talent and so handsome 😁

My best memory of this song was within a week of the release of the MLoR album. My Army buddy and I were stationed in Herlong, California and headed out to Reno for some R&R. We were flying down highway 395 in a bright red MG with this tune on full volume. So awesome to hear this song when it was brand new while buzzing past the Sierra Nevada's on the right and the high desert rocks on the left! Hawks were circling above humming along with us :-) Will never forget that as long as I live. Thanks for posting this.

Every time I hear this song, I flash back to the first time I jumped out of an airplane. It was at Ft. Benning GA. The feeling I got was incredible! There is no sensation to compare with this!
I arrived back home yesterday from Airventure 2015 in Oshkosh, WI. It was my first time. I've been a Private Pilot and an A&P since the 1980's. I have to admit that I have never felt so overwhelmed and awestruck. This song kept playing over and over in my mind. The lyrics, "Tongue Tied And Twisted, Just An Earthbound Misfit, I", really hit home. I had the opportunity to test fly a new light sport kit plane. The CFI at one moment looked at me and asked If I was OK- I guess he noticed the tears rolling down my cheeks. Aye was my only response because I served in Viet Nam from 1974 thru 1975 as an AMH in the US Navy. Now I'm going to grab a quick shower and go to the airport and strap my ass to my 172. Cherish every moment you're "Above The Planet, On A Wing And A Prayer." FLY!!!
This song feels just as good as anything from the Barrett and Waters eras. In fact, what differentiates it from Waters era is that it's good without having any of Roger's cynicism. It's ok to be in awe of life without feelings of bitterness sometimes. Been a Floyd fan since grade school... that's 20+ years now... and Learning to Fly conjures up mystical teenage memories. Gilmour Floyd had it's share of magical songs, that I truly do believe.

David Gilmour is a brilliant guitarist. He probably could have had a memorable guitar solo in all of the Floyd's compositions except for the fact that Waters was always looking over his shoulder. His guitar work in this song puts you into the air yourself.
David got his share of memorable guitar solos. the fact is that he carries a lot of PF songs by his guitar music, and sometimes Roger Waters is just an addition (though not always an insignificant one).

Pink Floyd The Wall was my first concert ever at sweet 16 in Dortmund Westfalen Halle in Germany. I still have my ticket stub at 56 years old. This music has sadly now reached a time where it suffers from generational gap, so I'm happy to see you love it!
