Hi Ben, We watched this on the telly on Sunday night, but always like to give it our full attention and enjoy watching instead of commenting as we go. This is honestly one of our favourite series on you tube at the moment, brilliantly put together despite all your struggles, we feel right there with you👊. We think you may have had one of the worst weather experiences (considering it was summer) for your first time hiking in the lake district ever 😫. We really felt for you when you took that tumble and banged your head🤕. And then to get to the highest point with absolutely no views, pretty demoralising, we do hope you forgive the lake district and return one day to see it in all it's glory (maybe to do the Cumbria way?🤗). Anyway, point is, you kept on going! Huge respect to you for that, not easy with wet gear, especially when you are on your own. We do enjoy seeing the people you meet along the way, and what a lift some kind words and a little bit of company gives you. We are just glad we know that you completed this as we watch, we aren't sure our anxiety could take it otherwise😂🙈. Bring on part 3!🙌 All the best, Shell and Pete 😊👊👍

My advice - if its wet avoid the decent from Kidsty - follow the ridge parallel to Haweswater - the decent at the end is steep but grassy so less harmful if you do slip.

I feel your pain, we did the C2C this time last year, Kidsty Pike was horrible and we had dry weather. Also the reservoir is never ending. We later found out that the high route is a lot better. Well done!
To avoid the decent from Kidsty and the walk alomng Haweswater, we turned left and followed the ridge over High Style?, coming out about 2/3 way along the reservoir but with a much easier, and safer, decent.
Great episode, Ben. With respect to your nutrition for your future hikes, can I suggest some other items which you may find beneficial. 1) Hi5. This is a slow-release maltodextrin energy powder which you can get in pre-prepared sachets or a large tub which you can then decant into your own bags. 2) Creatine. Take either in supplement form or again as a powder decanted into food bags. Both of these additions will help with respect to energy, but in the latter's case with maintaining strength.
So good👏👏Those wet ferns along that lake🙃 a good few miles already, seems a world away from the start, all this and then that sign saying, "Robin Hood's Bay 126 miles"😲😲 brings home the reality!! 👏🏆

Well done, Ben. But......Never start a hike with adverse and dangerous weather conditions forecasted. It is always better to hunker down and wait for an improvement. My brother and I made a similar mistake in trying to beat the weather on the Tongariro Crossing here in NZ. After reaching the peak we were subjected to gale force winds and reduced visibility, while dropping down beside the Red Crater. Scary as! We were lucky, and rather silly.......
Thanks John. Good advice. In my case, I had studied the forecast and it was due to get a lot worse after i came down hence I left early in the morning. I would have definitely. Stayed if the weather was forecast to be bad earlier. Fortunately no really strong wind for me there just a lots of cloud and some rain. It was a learning curve though!
Really enjoying the series, Ben! This episode was a particular joy, as Shap was where I spent many childhood holidays. My Great Aunt Doris and Uncle George lived there, and George was for many years the manager of the Co-Op. Amazing to see that it’s still in the hands of that organisation! Looking forward to the next instalment!

Great to see the progress your making Ben, Apologies for the late watch, my current schedule wont allow me much time for relaxing with the Y-Tube, My previous comments about your choice of footwear are not criticism of your choice, I'm just a yomper and love a good big sturdy boot :) , Shame about the tumble, not sure from the camera angle how you were descending on that bit, If in doubt, go down on your backside :), that's my old Mountaineering buddy who is no longer with us talking. Very impressed with your progress.
Done it twice and that descent off Kidsty howes followed by the never ending Haweswater is for me the worst day of the walk. Unfortunately you had bad weather to make it even harder

Is there an advantage to having your cap on beneath your waterproof's hood? Does it keep the rain out of your eyes better, or does it stop the hood going over your eyes? Curious of Stoke Newington.

On serious hikes, I always take a glasses retainer cord. Saved my specs quite a few times when falling.

I think knowing I was walking for charity was a big motivator on the low days!
It was August so just shows you never know in Lake District.
