It's called a microwave, colleges offers it's use for free.
Of course unlike nations like Japan, you can't expect that to be available, or the high school's kitchen to be available to let you cook a meal (I believe that in Japan there are cooking clubs and the equipment are usually borrowed often, but in the West they don't t let anyone touch them lest they come under a case of irresponsibility.)

For those either too young or those who did not live in the New York/New Jersey Metro area, there used to be a company that used to offer ready-made/precooked meals that we behind small glass doors. The company was called Horn and Hardart. When you walk into the joint, you were met by a cashier. You would give them a couple of bucks and they would give you quarters, dimes and nickles. With change in your hands, you would get in a line that circled the restaurant. You look into the little glass window and see the meal/sandwich/desert that you wanted to buy. Put your correct changes into the change slot and the door would spring open so that you could take you item, then proceed to a table to eat. Food was excellent and very inexpensive, for the 1960's!!! Bonne apetitte!

I grew up in NYC. In the city there was a famous restaurant called the Horn and Hardart. It was all "vending" style, so this idea isn't new. They'd put slices of pie, pot pies, sandwiches, stews, salads, soups... all kinds if food in little glass cubicles with glass doors and coipd rotate so the ladies in back could refill them all as they were emptied. They only cost a nickel, a dime or a quarter in those days, put it in the slot and the door unlocked. I thought it was magical, I was a little girl. It was a delicious treat my aunt would take me our to eat. Both hot and cold items. There were also coffee dispensers and tea. It made news the day they closed, the end of an era. If you were poor you could eat nourishing food there for very little. Homemade.

It wasn't in prepackaged plastic trays to be microwaved. Everything came on real plates, bowls, with real silverware and cups with saucers. No preservatives, never frozen and reheated. You could pick main meals and sides'of veggies, pasta, almost anything you could think of. I don't think a college needs this unhealthy reheated stuff, it looks high in grease and salt and preservatives.

The only hot food that you can get somewhat fresh are deep fried type of food, like fries.
If it has complicated cooking and prep, it would be frozen.
So Fries, Corndogs, Onion Rings, and other Junk foods can possibly be vended freshly from a frozen state, but others risk condensation from the cooking process unless you incorporate expensive prep functions like a steam injector to moisturize the food (spaghetti gets rather watery sauce and the noodle doesn't heat up evenly) and cook evenly.

The only dish I think works well was that RUclips video of a old man who cooks rice (he grows them locally) daily and seals them fresh as packs and put curry packs alongside them. The machine simply keeps the package hot which keeps the curry and rice hot but separated. That guy has been doing that in Japan for years.
Having a steam injector and a way to eject the colder steam, from white rice while the machine heats up a foil bag of curry works well for any vending machines... Liquid sauced food like curry is fine no matter the packaging.

And finally, MRE type foods that can cook in flameless ration heating units can work in these vending machines due to steam technologies... I would always suggest saucy food to heat up separately to a main source of grains like rice.
Steaming food is much healthier to say the least.
Hmm what if someone created dim sum vending machines (dumplings, sui mai, pork and chives, and rice noodles, etc) since all you need to do is steam them?

I love how "Wild American Ginseng" is marketable in Asia like "Yunnan Mountain Pu'er" is marketable in America.

They used to have analog versions of this in the USA back in the 1940's and 50's. It was called "The Automat".

I like the orange juice machine. I've visited Singapore once before and had it. It's sealed!
