- We're in Germany for this video, travelling between Aachen and Cologne on a high-speed line and driving a high-speed train. But just how high-speed is it? Try 155mph - the fastest you can go in any train in Train Simulator or Train Sim World history! Have you got the need for speed?

Alright, so since you asked for it I'll give you a little overview of the German railways:
To start off, rolling stock classification numbers: You called the ICE 3 in the video the "Br ICE 3M" which is incorrect. "Br" means "Baureihe" (Class) and in the case of the ICE 3M that class would be 406, so Br 406 ICE 3M.
There are the following categories of classes:
9X: Steam locomotives
1XX: Electric locomotives
2XX: Main line diesel locomotives
3XX: Diesel shunters
4XX: Electric Multiple Units (all electrification types, except battery) The ICE 3 and the Talent 2 belong to this group.
5XX: Battery Railcars
6XX: Diesel Multiple Units
7XX: Departmental and railway maintenance stock
Next up are types of passenger trains in Germany:
S-Bahn: Suburban and inner-city trains that serve either a city or a metropolitan area (rarely also more rural regions). S-Bahn is short for "Stadtschnellbahn", which means "fast/rapid urban railway".
Regionalbahn (RB): Regional trains that usually stop at all stations along their route. Route lengths can vary considerably
Regionalexpress (RE): Regional trains that only serve larger local stations and skip stations of lesser importance if another train on the same railway line serves them (mostly an RB). REs also stop at all stations en route if they are the only regional service on a certain railway line.
InterRegioExpress (IRE): A rarely used category for essentially fast Regional Express trains that must not be confused with the cheap cross-country "InterRegio" trains that ceased operations in 2006.
InterCity (IC): Typically loco-hauled (there are now some IC EMUs) long distance trains still largely made up of single-decker coaching stock from the 70s and 80s with driving trailers added in the 90s. They have a top speed of 200 kph (some only reach 160 kph) and some lines will cross international borders into Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
InterCity Express (ICE): Germany's top-of-the-range rail service. Some units can reach 300 kph in service (ICE 3 and ICE 3 Velaro D), older units can reach 280 kph (ICE 1 and 2), the tilting ICE-T can reach 230 kph and the new ICE 4 can reach 250 kph. They sometimes run on dedicated high-speed trackage but often share tracks with conventional trains. There are international services to Vienna, Zürich, Interlaken, Paris, Amsterdam and Brussels.
EuroCity: International InterCity trains that run to Prague, Warsaw, Gdynia and other cities. These are often operated by the railway company of the other nation. (Berlin-Warsaw express is operated by the Polish State railways PKP etc.)
Now for rail operators:
Deutsche Bahn: They are the main rail operator and operate nearly all long distance trains in Germany. They also operate the majority of Regional and S-Bahn services aswell as freight trains.
Private Passenger Operators: Many regional lines are operated by private operators like Abellio, National Express (yes, the British one), Transdev and others. Sometimes there are private operators centered around one region, like the "East German Railway Company" (ODEG) that operates only in eastern Germany. The only important private InterCity operator is FlixTrain.
Private Freight Operators: There are a huge amount of private freight carriers in Germany, that operate all over Europe. Some of them are: RheinCargo, HVLE, Freightliner, TXLogistik and MRCE.
There is a lot more to cover, but you probably don't have the time to read all that :P
So I'll finish with some information on the Cologne-Aachen route.
The line from Cologne is essentially two lines, the main line for ICE and RE services and the S-Bahn tracks for said services. These go as far as Düren, although S-Bahn services also terminate at various earlier stations. From Düren onwards the RE lines stop at all remaining stations to Aachen except Eilendorf, which is served by the RB20. Contrary as to what TSW portrays, the RE services (Talent 2s and others in real life) do run on the fast lines between Cologne and Düren. There should not be any Talent 2s on the S-Bahn lines.
The regional services that use the route are:
RE1: from Hamm (Westfalen) to Aachen, calling at Köln Hbf, Köln Ehrenfeld, Horrem, Düren, Langerwehe, Eschweiler Hbf, Stolberg (Rheinl.) Hbf, Aachen Rothe Erde and Aachen.
RE9: from Siegen, calling at the same stations.
S-Bahn lines S12, S13 and S19 of the S-Bahn Cologne. Looking west from Cologne these trains can terminate at Köln Ehrenfeld, Horrem, Sindorf and Düren, according to the individual line and service pattern.
I hope this helps a bit, and if you want more information, then I'll be happy to try and help out.
Oh this is fantastic! I feel like this is like, a Beginner's Guide to German Railways :D I've pinned the comment too so other folks can gen up! Thank you so much for this. :)
@@HeyItsAJOmega No problem. Like I said, if there are more things you want to know, then just ask. You might have to pin the comment again, as I've edited it slightly, because I missed something.
You had me at ‘meat and very fast potatoes’
loving how everytime a talent shows up, AJ screams "HENLO HAMSTAH" xDDD
PD: The Small Train Chronicles new episode when??? Cheers!
HENLO HAMSTER TRAIN xD
New STC is coming probably either Mid-September or Mid-October? When I have some progress to report, basically :D
@@HeyItsAJOmega Ah, perfect! Cheers!
@Another Station, Another Mile in train Simulator there is the super class 47 and the jet train and super Alan.
Great video please could we see some train sim videos. Keep up the great work.
Sure! I'm enjoying making them, so you'll see plenty more TSW videos :)
I don't know too much about technical technicalities but as a commuter and railway traveler within Germany... If you have any questions, let me know. :)
Oooh, thank you! I shall :) Have you travelled on the ICE 3M trains before?
@@HeyItsAJOmega a few times, yeah. Not on that route but Hamburg to Kassel, I believe.
@@tastymoves Oh, awesome! How was it?
@@HeyItsAJOmega as a passenger, you don't really notice the speed. So it's all very comfortable, with their new seats and dot matrix seat reservation thingies and overhead monitors that show your current location and all. Downside for me was that each carriage only has one door which is a pain at busy stations and affects punctuality
You should have enabled LZB, it would have helped with braking on high speed section

[D O I N A H E C K I N F A S T]
Train Simulator 2016 has a DLC for the CHR380a wich does around 440 KMH
That would be 248mph.
For real? WOAH.
155mph is 249Kmph. Now that’s fast. Imagine a train that could reach speeds of over 200mph (321Kmph).
It kinda blows my mind, honestly!
Another Station, Another Mile Yeah it does 😂
Well,i (ETR 500) Have a Max speed of 360 Km/h or Idk how much is it [Insert number] MPH
The ICE 3M can reach 320 kph, just isn't allowed to on this route
Can you do the Main Spessart Bahn in TSW2020
Definitely! Most likely when it's added to TSW2 as Preserved Collection, but I can definitely check that out :)
@@HeyItsAJOmega Thanks I loved it a lot.
First! (Class)
I have indeed seen what you did there. ;)
