The past 3 days have seen the start of the ripping up of this railway line, driven by a highly incompetent Council. The line runs from just off Weymouth Station to the end of Weymouth Harbour. At a time when other town councils are putting lots of money into building tram lines, this would have been a perfect base for trams to be introduced. The traffic congestion in Weymouth is awful, mainly because of poor road lay-out, and the Councils obsession with thousands of traffic lights. A tramway would have solved many of these traffic problems. Also, with Weymouth being a major seaside resort, it would have served as a tourist attraction. Unfortunately the local Council are frightened of compensation claims, because a couple of people have complained that the lines are a trip hazard. I’ve been cycling, walking and driving over the lines regularly during the past 20+ years, and all that’s required is to look where you are going, and use common-sense when walking and cycling by crossing the lines at right angles !

Much loved! I hope that the Councils will ensure full preservation.

Sadly it was destroyed in 2020 by the local council.

Street running is quite common in the USA ... and ... you do NOT get loads of GEEZERS in hi-vis jackets walking in front of the freight trains ( if you get run over , it's your stupid fault ! ) , but to be fair , they do blow their horns A LOT ! ...... DAVE™🛑
