I was lucky enough to be on the end of a car that was bought during that "dead-period" and it was absolutely stolen. A '19LCI M2 Comp with every option ticked for about 52k. That same car now, with about 30k miles, is worth about 58-62k. This is such a crazy time to be alive.

You’re spot on. I work in semiconductor procurement and this isn’t going away anytime soon. We’re looking at 52+wks lead time on almost everything. Someone even gave me a delivery date of April 2024 on Infineon processors. Look up the HK electronics broker market if you want to hate China even more….

Always has been a great channel.. subbed to your tech channel. Look forward to content there. As for your explanation, spot on. But if one really tries, you can find dealers not marking up. I must’ve called over 100 dealers. On the ford Raptor forum there is a thread naming “dealers who deserve our business,” those who do not charge markups. I got my Gen3, same color as yours, at sticker at Tindol Ford in NC. Ordered it in October, got it in March. I traveled 700 miles to trade my Gen2 for it and got a great trade value. The honest dealers are tough to find but they are out there.

I have a friend who works for a large car company in the U.K., he went further on the chips issue: their company only sources from two locations, both are experiencing a drought right now, which means they aren’t able to cool the chips for that c.3 month period. So they at least a while ago weren’t even able to make any!

Not entirely true, there is money to be made off of this market aside from if you bought pre-pandemic. I am a GM dealer in Canada, we export to the US daily. Exporters and importers both make money. Dealers here are legally bound to sell at MSRP or lower.

Joe, if you’re talking about “Exotic Car Hacks” it’s not totally a scam. It’s a course about learning the simple fundamentals of used cars depreciation and what numbers to buy and sell at to reduce the cost. I’ve never “flipped” a car but pre COVID , this method worked to basically allow me to drive multiple high end cars for free on paper without regarding taxes and fees. Though, Pandemic prices def helped out the marketing of these borderline scams.
I bought my 2019 BMW on March 10, 2020. I ended up never going back to the office and drive about 5 times a month while it just sits in my garage. Fast forward to present day and I can now get almost exactly what I paid for it then.

LOL, I know who exactly you mean by "exotic car hacks" and other ads like his "watch selling" program. Lives South of me.
I bought a Platinum F150 new in 19, loaded, Coyote, 4auto and 3.55s w/ tow, 701A, 36 gallon tank etc. $59k otd and that was with taxes, fees. And I love that Coyote tuned and modded heh. But buddy sent me pic of truck at his dealer, 21 F150 w/ 15 or 20k miles on it, and they wanted $65k lmfao. But what's crazier, there are ple ty of dingbats out there paying these prices and markups in general, nutz. Boats, there are boats even Contenders etc that you would have a hard time selling here and maybe sell within 4-6 months at 120k, now same boats and similar and people are like $180k, oh and fuel tank never been replaced, motors out of warranty and high hours, wiring and rigging never updated.

Call me old fashioned, but I'm not shedding any tears for the dealerships. Yeah they may only sell 100 cars now a month instead of 500, but instead of making $500 a car they're making $3000 so they're still coming out on top; they're putting the consumer in an even worse spot once the market adjusts down in a year or two though, but they don't care because they've already made their money on the front end and will continue to through the financing.
some idiot totaled my car 2 weeks ago and its so stressful looking for cars. i see cars with 300k miles still selling for 10 grand and theyre pre 2010
