  • I thought I would challenge myself today by climbing the deepest station on the London Underground! With over 320 steps and 58.5 meters below ground level, this will definitely be no easy feat...

    I lived in Hampstead and climbed the stairs. (my dad went up in the lift) I was 7. This was in 1941, during the war. I couldn't do it now, I am 84.

    About 5 years ago I deliberately went to this station just to climb this staircase.

      It's definitely a trek climbing up, the only reason why I decided to do it...I'd probably do it again too. 😂

    I tried to run up the stairs over the weekend but the lack of clean air severely hampered me and i found myself wheezing when i finally came out into the ticket hall.

    Wish I would’ve known about his one last week, I was just in London, this would’ve been good practice for the Willis tower in Chicago. Not nearly as long, but it is real life instead of a machine.

      The two places with the most steps to climb I've tramped my way up are the gothic Dom (cathedral) in Cologne,which has over 500 steps,and the giant Buddha on Lantau Island,Hong Kong (cannot remember how many steps that has but it's a lot).

    I made the huge mistake of climbing these stairs last November 😂 was following a friend and didn't realise she didn't know it was that many stairs. Good workout though

    Rush hour seems like an average Sunday in a busier station I’d say considering this station xD

    I work in Essen at a building with 27 floors and regularly go up to number 22. Sometimes cool, but yes it is hard.

    From the time you enter the station and scan your oyster or ticket, how many trains would you miss if you took the stairs down to the platforms? Some people walk and some people run but on average how many trains would go through before you arrive? I don't know the answer by the way, I'm just asking lol 😂😂

    So it says don't use incase of emergency yet there is people using the stairs

    • @grassytramtracks
      @grassytramtracks 11 месяцев назад +1

      They're just warning you how many steps there are, it's not a rule and they won't command you to take the lift if you try to use the stairs

      That's just a suggestion. The stairs aren't closed off to the public.

    I hate stations like this? The lifts are for step free access but you’d go up steps to reach them, I don’t see no lift on the platform

    • @grassytramtracks

      Step free access on the tube still has a very long way to go unfortunately
