These steps were the shock of my life. I came to covent garden for the first time in my life during rush hour and did not read/process the notice saying it's 15 floors. I panicked after getting up half way and needing to stop to catch my breath. Very claustrophobic too.
Actually those stairs are equivalent to a 9 storey building. Geoff Marshall made a video about it called "All Tube Stations Have Fifteen Floors
"
I love these things, I love the tile patterns the twisting steps and in general the whole feel it gives!
Awesome video! Shocked you're not big, all the love
I recently thought I could beat the lift, forgetting both that I had asthma, and a cold giving me a cough. Sprinted for a while at the start, thinking I was nearly at the top and saw a sign saying 93 steps remaining. I genuinely nearly collapsed, and couldn't breathe properly for nearly an hour after I effectively clambered out at the top.
Can't say I recommend the stairs to anyone.
My exact experience and situation 😅
The fifteen storey thing is nonsense, and has turned into a joke. Other stations with different numbers of steps still give the same number, for example Hampstead with 320 steps. Geoff Marshall did a video about it, measured the steps, and calculated what it should say. I assume they just pulled a number of storeys out of thin air because it sounded like a lot
How long did I take
I ran up them in 1 min 23 sec and I’m only 12
Ok
