I recently did a Back To Paradise tour of Celtics Parkhead. The tour guide mention that Liverpool officials had previously visited and checked out their safe seating areas in their ground and had positive feedback. I liked the look of it & think it's the right time to move forward.
I think the Premier League needs Liverpool to be happy with this for safe standing to be passed. It's much better than smashing your shins and falling down 5 rows of seating. Far safer than all-seaters.
Standing should never of been taken away in the first place, it wasnt because nobody had anywhere to sit that caused hillsborough it was orders from high up and the dammed fences that kept fans caged in
That's excellent news. If the trial goes well, it would be great if the major from Kop has standing areas, like the yellow wall in Dortmund. It would greatly improve the atmosphere
@@joedlfc9042 Yeah I know, but it would be safer for everyone this time and that might push the younger and more eager to sing fans to go to the Kop :)
Great stuff. The rules in England on rail seating have evolved far too slowly but it's great that common sense has now prevailed. Those barriers will prevent a lot of injuries over the coming years. I think it makes sense to eventually see far more than 1800 rail seats in the Kop.
Well done Liverpool for doing their due diligence, I remember them coming up to Celtic Park to experience it and take notes, it'll add to an already great Liverpool atmosphere as it does at Celtic Park, two great clubs, two great sets of fans... enjoy God bless the 96 and their families 🍀⚽🍀
Sadly now 97, my second cousin was actually one of the heroes in the upper tier of Leppings Lane pulling people to safety. He is still quite affected by it to this day, and goes to the memorial at Anfield every anniversary
Pl note the railing rods at the end of the aisles have this tube that seems like sharp edges.. can't they have a cushioning so that when you walk up and down or miss a step you don't get hurt by the blunt edged tubes.. you could fill the open tube edging with a cusion.Just a thought.. Makes it really safe.
I was in attendance at the athletic bilbao match yesterday sat in the KOP an found these new safety rails a very welcome addition. You can lean your arms on them an it doesn't impact or impair your experience whatsoever. It actually enhances your visit an provides a good safety net. Its great 👍
Lets not piss about im 53 and had a season ticket for the KOP back in the day Hillsborough came along which took my passion away ( which I wish it didnt) but it did, my love for the club never changed by the way, I just found things in general was hard with memories hard to take.
Seen someone have a heart attack in the Kop at anfield we had to raise him over our heads and pass him down it would have been safer if we had standing then the emergency services could have helped quicker
The whole of the South Bank at Wolves (Molineux) was converted to rail seats two years ago and it's been massively popular...and safe. Was in operation the whole season before lockdown
Great idea and design , got the choice to stand up safely will put some of the old atmosphere back into the kop , speaking from experience back in the day !
What is the difference between rail seating and safe standing? I've seen LFC making it very clear that this is rail seating but I'm not sure what the difference is.
Safe standing allows fans to stand throughout an event (sitting is optional). The premier league requires all seater stadiums and fans are required to be seated so these need to be classed as rail seats (designed for sitting with a safety rail if you do get up). Safe standing designs tend to have seats that don’t stick out at all so there is more room to stand between the rows at the expense of sitting comfort. Race tracks or more spacious venues are more likely to have safe standing.
Great idea but think a lot of people are going to be banging their heads when they swing their head backwards at some disappointment that's happened on the pitch, especially those who really throw them self back in their seat.
Natural selection mate, if u forgot there's a massive bright red rail in front of u and behind and manage to headbutt it chances are u don't have any braincells to lose
Nobody sits down in the kop anyways. The problem with non seater stadiums pre 1990 was there wasn’t an assigned area eg seat number so this is fully safe
When will Football ever admit that ever since it got rid of standing areas people just routinely stand behind their seats, which is far more dangerous! If standing terrace areas were so perilous they wouldn’t still be allowed in the lower leagues, which they are! The Hillsborough tragedy was the result of many factors: Police incompetence, a stadium without a safety certificate and those incomprehensible fences used to imprison the fans. Safe standing areas could and should have always have been the way forward.
Great to see the EPL trailing this. Were the Hillsborough Survivors Association members offered the chance to assess the implementation along with the Hillsborough Family Support Group?
Good explanation but not needed. As a supporter who stood on terraces countless times throughout the 80’s and early 90’s I never ever experienced any issues whatsoever. What was dangerous however where the segregated “sheep”pens that they had at certain football grounds (I won’t name them because I think we all know on here of one particular ground in the North of England), anyway these where extremely dangerous because if not controlled properly either by design or miscommunication too many fans could end up in one of these fenced off areas with dire consequences. Consider this also but a segregated all seater section of a stadium is way way more dangerous than a standing section because you then have a load of seats to clamber over as well (I’ve experienced it myself). Anyway my point here is this, standing or sitting at a football match has NEVER killed anybody, but NEGLIGENT POLICING HAS.
Celtic were the first club in the UK to have it, it works well and adds to the atmosphere, the Liverpool fans came up and took notes, so all the best to them 🍀⚽🍀
So what's going to happen if those sitting behind you (yes at times you can sit if you want to) are leaning on the rail and their hands and arms are smacking you on the back of the head! I for one won't be putting up with that!
I was there yesterday. Its great safety net but it means if you are over 6 feet tall u wont be able to sit down without your knees pressing into rail or seat in front.
As someone who is 6 feet tall, I noticed that as well. When the video showed the space all I could think was this not an enjoyable way to spend two hours.
There was naver a crush that caused deaths at Anfield. It happened in a stadium not fit for purpose... There is no reason just to invite the Hillsborough group for approval.
You're stepping on dangerous ground here. Hillsborough was deemed fit for purpose, especially as it had held many previous semi-final ties there. The real issue was SY Police, and their inability to control a baying crowd outside the Leppings Lane end. Stadium seating was introduced so that crowd numbers could be controlled, and avoid what happened at Hillsborough. I'm guessing the Hillsborough family group was invited to view the new seating area as a courtesy to the memory of those who died, especially as LFC said it would never reintroduce standing areas.
The barriers are a good idea to improve safety which I’m all for but I do also hope they make the seats more comfortable, they don’t look like they have any kind of padding or support, especially for the lower back or spine. Nor do they support people with disabilities. One concern is if you wish to be seated because you can’t stand for long periods of time but everyone else is standing, you won’t be able to see anything. If your seated but people behind you are standing and leaning on the rail, constantly smacking you in the head is a bit of a put off. As long as the stewards enforce sitting down throughout the match after the goal, otherwise i think it might be a bit pointless. Along with this, should be a lifetime ban on anyone who doesn’t adhere to the strict rules. I don’t think there should never ever be full safe standing and I hope that doesn’t come next.
How are kids supposed to see if someone infront decides to stand? In this day and age parents aren't going to let their kids go into a specified kids section, surely thier view will be obstructed by the rail itself orpeople infront standing
Maggie Thatcher. She used the Hillsborough Disaster as the excuse to bring in all seater stadiums when really it was to address the hooliganism problem. A lot easier to identify trouble makers when their ticket is assigned to a seat.
