- Time to get the '54 to shop to get this restoration started! Had to put some decent tires on her and get her on a trailer. Several family members came to help send her off. Family friend and dad's cousin, Jimmy Walker, is going be the guy in charge of the restoration. His shop is about 30 miles north of us. This video is of us getting the truck ready and delivered to his shop.
Out standing that the family got together and helped in every way they could. Each one will feel pride in this project.
Excellent series... My Dad was born in the same year (1933). I have a great admiration for people from this generation !!
This would be a great series, We need a part 3
I'm sure corona-aids has put it on hold, I really do hope to see Pt3
Progress is being made on the truck ... I’m overdue fir a video .. thanks for your patience !!
@@dadstruckrestoration8112 Please upload an update when you can. Thanks a lot.
@@dadstruckrestoration8112 cant wait to see video 3
Been watching for a new video. Hope the resto is going well.
Can’t wait to see that old girl fixed up. He would be proud.
Thank you for saving another classic pick up from being crushed.
Really looking forward to the next installment. I hope you are doing well and I wish you all he best.
Long story short, my grandmother gave me her 1953 Ford F100 pick up, 50th anniversary edition with 73,000 original miles on it all numbers matching, ran fine was used to haul leaves in the fall for several years that’s what grandma used it for. She saved this truck for me for over 20 years. I lived in Phoenix, and she lived in the St. Louis area. By the way I love cars and trucks. I was married and had saved my money to have the truck transported to Phoenix from St. Louis,I had the truck shipped to me and started to restore it, but didn’t have the money or the time at the time, oh my dad who also loves cars and trucks had just retired ,and I figured he needed something to do so I signed the truck over to him, no money exchanged and After dad and I rented a U-Haul trailer and used his other truck we spent two days car trailer hauling it back to St. Louis where my dad lives. Dad did a two year frame off rotisserie restoration of the truck, and it turned out beautiful, the best part of the story is my grandmother seen the truck all taken apart in my dad‘s garage and said you’ll never get that back together in my lifetime and my dad did get it back together in her lifetime and she was the first one to ride in the truck after the restoration was complete And grandma said it was nicer than when she had bought it when it was one year old, that has been over 20 years ago my dad still has the truck and is going to will it back to me when he passes. My parents have had fun with the truck they’ve entered it in parades and auto shows. And the numbers matching truck now has about 79,000 miles on it.
Awesome start to a series for all of us to follow! Please keep updates coming!
I'm a Mopar guy myself, but i've always liked the old ford trucks. Its really cool what you're doing with it. im hopeful an update video is coming soon.
Simply a beautiful emotional story, awaiting for part 3 and.....
This is not only one of the most impactful and emotional car videos I’ve ever seen, but it’s shot beautifully as well. They way you talk about your dad’s love for this truck, I’m sure he’s got a huge grin watching you give new life to it. Keep up the great work and can’t wait to see the finished result!
I hope we'll get a third episode from you all. Looking forward to seeing it. Was sad to part with my 1980 Chevy K10 (same year as me) last fall that had always taken a sticker. Didn't have the time to keep it going how it deserved, and a gal restarting their family farm needed a good farm truck and wanted to restore it like she did with her dad growing up. I knew he was going to a good home. I do miss Buhbuh.
It's an absolutely beatiful time capsule exactly as it is. If it's not too late to suggest it, maybe just start with a mechanical restoration and put some miles on it for a year. Whatever you decide to do with it, I'm happy for you and hope it becomes exactly what you want it to be.
Wow Johnny nice video, very touching, restoring Was the right thing to do, your dad is very proud of you and your mother too, this truck is well worth it It is part of the family, we Enjoyed watching thanks Mike and cam from California.
I subbed after watching the first video. What a fabulous job you are doing on the video production, from the footage to the narration, to the music. Its like watching art. You can really tell everything about this is a labor of love. Even mom pointing out the scratch she made all the years ago. I bet pop was none to pleased when that happened. As others have commented on both videos, please please leave this old girl as close to original as possible, dents, scratches and all. Repairing and painting over moms scratch would be akin to filling in and welding the crack on the Liberty Bell and I think once all the battle scars are gone, you will miss them terribly. I cannot wait for the next installment.
OMG... I'm sitting here with tears rolling down my face watching this! Please don't change that paint! Every scratch holds a memory. I love this and it makes me miss my dad! He had a F100 Unibody that I grew up in. I'd give anything to have it! At the 1:35 mark of this video, I completely lost it! Absolutely awesome!
This brings tears to my eyes. It's nice to see you guys keep the memory and legacy of your Dad and pass it on to the next generation.
Mine to
What a way to represent your DAD I’m sure he will be proud. Please continue with the video. God bless you
Great video! What a great tribute! A few years ago, I restored my dad’s first new car. A 1965 Plymouth that my dad stop driving in 1985. What a great time to stand with my dad and see my son and his new bride leave the church in my dad’s newly restored, old Plymouth.
Much respect for you and your family for sharing this journey with us.
I just came across your channel and I watched both videos about this truck. I subscribed and will be looking forward to seeing this truck get restored. The history of this truck makes it special.
Nicely done. Great photography, perfect music, naration and editing. Though I know these projects can take many years and a considerable investment I hope to see more of the truck's story soon.
I have the same truck with a nearly identical story. My father-in-law bought his 1954 F100 at the local Ford dealership in Pawnee City, Nebraska. It's a straight six, though. Used it on the farm for years, drove it back and forth to California several times, etc. It was last licensed in 1982. Being up here in the rust belt, to say it's in worst shape than yours is a huge understatement. I look at the clean metal on your dad's old truck and it makes me envious. I don't have the money to make it as nice as I want, but I will make it drivable, safe, and fun.
Very touching. Please keep the videos coming so we can enjoy the trip with you and your family. God Bless you all
So many people rod these trucks out, it will be very nice to see one that is unmolested and done right to preserve the memories it represents.
I can't wait for the rest of this series! I agree with the comments about fixing any serious metal issues and just clear coating it to preserve it and just getting it running. It's beautiful!
Having watched the first part and learning the history of your Father and the truck, that tune sent a chill down my spine... From the drum clips to the 'first scratch' and through the family participation in this project - you have my respect
Very impressed with the cinematic and photography skills used in these videos, can’t wait to see the next one
Excited to see this project through to completion. Thanks for documenting this journey.
If the truck turns out as well as these videos are produced, you'll darn sure have a winner! I was gonna cuss here, but I know this is a family rated program.God bless all of you!
Really well done video with lots of real family personality. I loved it. Great job guys!
Cant wait to see how it turns out!! Keep us posted!!! The music from good the bad and the ugly was a nice touch too!👍🏻😂
Me too!
....and your only the 2nd person to identify that music on the soundtrack!! The only other person is the guy actually doing the work on the truck!
I figured nobody would pick that tune ...

@@dadstruckrestoration8112 when can we expect a follow up video? It’s been a year, I can’t wait to see the progress.
@@dadstruckrestoration8112 I clocked it - one of my very favourite soundtracks! Did a road trip to the Sad Hill Cemetary in Spain few years ago with my kids. However, just makes me even more pissed that you didn't continue with this series - now I have to find another source of education for my build
In 1950 my granddad got fed up with his Buick eight destroying transmissions and bought a 1950 ford sedan, I was 6 so it was my pleasure to ride in the backseat while we toured the country round. (Saskatchewan farm country) when I was fourteen he replaced that beauty with a two-door '56 ford sedan which I leaned to drive in. After that came the Mercury highway cruiser and I went away to sea for seven years. I got back from Vietnam in '68 and the family contracting firm was still using '54 Ford pickups and that was my ride until motorcycles took over. love what you're doing. Johnny Tripp
Got this channel as a recommendation, and I cried. Waterfall, thanks for sharing your father history with his ford truck
Working on my Grandfather’s 53 F-250 stake bed. Quite the ranch truck. Learned to drive it when I was 14.
Hello to you and your family. Just came across the two videos, both are fantastic. I hope everything is well and look forward to seeing the series continue if and when it does. All the best from Canada, cheers, Griff. 👍👊🍻
Awesome! I am commenting from Colombia, South America, my dad used to have one of this great Ford trucks but it was a 1955 F-100 and I have such a great memories, good to see you guys taking care of this vehicle in memory of a loving father, hope to see the end result of this restoration, wish you guys the best
I'll follow for sure,
The more I look at this truck the more I would rebuild it the same way Davin Reckow at Hagerty did his 1960 Chevy.
He wanted to not rebuild but put the truck back on the road.
It was a very interesting serie to watch this old truck come back to life.
Been thinking of this series since day one of the second part. It is a shame that we never got a part 3 so far of this series. However, from what we have seen it is certainly a story to behold.
I would like to assume that it did get finished - and that they never got around to getting the video put together. That it is now in the family and well taken care of.
Regardless, the stories presented to us are something special and I am very grateful they were shared.
I love this video. I hope my son can live memories like this restoring my old truck some day. For now we're still waiting for him to be old enough to ride shotgun.
What a great story and project! Your video work is also very well done. The shots are well composed and the transitions are thoughtful and engaging! Keep up the good work! Looking forward to more!
Well thanks for the kind comments ... I’m due for another video... progress is being made !
Multumesc pentru acest exemplu de respect si dragoste pentru parinti. Doresc sa o vad pe mama dumneavoastra atunci cand o sa vada acest proiect demn de toata lauda, terminat. Va rog sa continuati !
I love this little series !! You did an amazing job on it. Hope to see the follow up of the restored truck soon!!
Amazing tribute to your father. God bless you and God bless america
What a great thing you are doing to honor your dad! Can’t wait to see the finally restore.
Man I love these early F100s. Had a few of them years ago. Lots more to the custom cab than the radio and dome light though. Bright trim around the windows, door panels, and(get this) the key hole on the drivers side door. Standard cab only had it on the passenger side.
She’s a beauty. Peace to you.
Funny, my 51 F3 just has the door lock on the passenger side, could never figure that out...
I was very close to my Dad, also. (Actually, both of my parents of course). I wish I had one of my Dad’s trucks to do the same thing, but I’ll just live vicariously through your restoration of this one. For all of us, please keep telling your Dad’s stories during the process, so we can get to know him too. Thank you.
I think it's commendable of you to honor your dad by resurrecting and restoring his first-ever new truck. It's even more priceless that you have original old photos from the 1950s, of him and his truck. Always had a fondness for the Y-block OHV Ford V8s. I think '54 was the first year for the OHV Y-block. God bless you and your family for making this a reality.
I don't even know why this came up in my recommended videos and I don't know why I clicked play but I'm sure glad I did. Really looking forward to seeing more on this truck in memory of your dad. Respect to you all from me here in the UK.
Man, that thing is way too clean to justify a restoration, especially with all its sentimental value. Every mark on it is part of its story and history with your dad. Clean it up, fix any issues, and enjoy it just as it is.
Troy Kelso Exactly
My initial thought aswell. After seeing the pressurewashing in the first video and saw the result, it didnt really look like the car needed much fixing. Maybe wear'n'tear parts in the engine-room, brakes, oils, some dusting/cleaning of windows inside the car etc.. it looks very good for its age, hence standing dry under a roof since its last drive..
Nothing is better than original paint. I think it would be awesome to take care of all the problems and keep the original paint only if possible. Otherwise it would be amazing to see the truck brand new again.
They're only original once.
@@michaelwalter3399 Boy, that's a mouth-full of words right there for sure. Couldn't have said it any better.
So nice of you to honor your dad like this. My dad had a 1965 Ford. Wish I had never of sold it. He had a little 7 acre farm 5 miles out of a little Louisiana. He spent his retirement years enjoying that farm and I have lots of fond memories going over on weekends to help him garden and work on fences. God bless. A Louisiana boy.
A good old truck in the hands of good old home folks. This is gonna go well. I'm looking forward to seeing the completion of this one.
I am redoing a 1965 f100 right now. first time I ever did a frame off resto. can't wait to see what yours looks like.
Great memories you guys brought to me< I live in Colombia< South America and my Dad had a 1955 F-100 Red in Color, I learn to drive in it, lots of power and easy manual transmission, I'll be waiting for the end product no matter how long it takes! Buena suerte y muchas Gracias de nuevo
Thank you for sharing the 2 vids youve made of the start of your Dad's truck restoration. Im sure making vids are a pain and take a lot of time but, youve done a wonderful job so far and i'm sure all will agree that youve gained a lot of interest from those that have viewed them. Please try to produce more as you can.
Its this kind of content on youtube that makes it worthwhile.
Thank you, again.
those two videos makes me realize value of memories
From Australia. Guys great videos, your Dad will be extremely proud. I've owned a 1980 Australian XD Ford Falcon for almost 40 years. It was my first car I ever bought back in 1982. I bought my daughter home in it 30 yrs ago. Recently it was her wedding car that drove her to her new husband. My daughter and my 2 sons feel about the car as you do about your Dad's F100. That's how I know how he would feel. Cheers, great success with your rebuild and God bless.
Looking forward to this road you and your family are going down. I'm excited to see the finished product and am enjoying hearing the story behind the truck.
I love everything about these 2 vids. The backstory, the narration, the music. Well sit and edited. We need more!!!
Car looks great already. It will only be better from now on. Congrats
I love these old trucks.I restored a 55 ford pickup from the ground up.wish I still had it.thank you for good memories. will be glad to see it when its done.Thank you.
The fact the family is joining in makes this more special.
I’m from Brazil and I Lake so much F100 Ford .... good job Sr. 👏👏👏
And never let die this Pick-up....these pick up deserve to be on the street.
Great family story and quality done video. I will be looking forward to more.
That was so good to watch mate, thanks heaps for sharing your story with everybody. I am just about to have a beer mate and I will raise my glass to you, your Dad and the truck.
What an incredible story, in the end all we go is family and friends. I salute you for restoring the truck and honoring the memory of your dad.
..i'll admit..this the first time i've ever watched a you tube video that tugged @my heart strings...it's gotta be that sad melodie and the narrator telling this trucks story and his dad...but how that first scratch on the fender...well i just laughed and teared up at the same time...you got my sub-support..please share more...i'm liking everything about this video....gonna go and kiss my stock 1953 3speed 292 Yblock short box ford truck..
Ahh you old softy
Stock 1953 should be a 239 ci flathead. The 292 Y block didn't show up till 1955, not sure if it was offered in trucks.
@@jamesglavich1426
I'm not sure anymore. I've had my '53 for 40 years and is pretty much bone stock (except for the color and now it is 12 volt). I thought I knew a lot about it. 1953 was the last year for the 239 flathead....so, I thought.
I've read that Canada made them through '55.
The French, I think, STILL make it or up until the early 90's!
The Y-Block came out in '54 but, I've read it was available in '53 as a 239 Y-Block.
I'll have to break out my shop manual tonight and see what it has.
You can't always trust the internet. People post things that are just plain wrong sometimes.
Santiago Elias and me!! Think the music is from “How the west was one”
Thanks for the kind remarks .... truck is coming along slowly but surely .... and I am working on the next video ... God bless
This video brought back so many memories of me as a kid and our '53 with a flathead V8. Learned to drive a stick shift with that old truck back in '61 when I was 10 years old out in the pasture. Wish I had one now.
Just come across this video. Don't think I would have done a full restoration. Only wiring deep clean. Engine seals etc. Nice set of tyres. Polished up the original paint work. Up rated brakes. Good storie about your dad and I guess you know what he would have wanted. Good luck with the build.
Can’t wait to see the progress, with no doubt it will be perfect 👌
Fantastic project, and equally fantastic camera work and production. I'm looking forward to more!
I restored a 53’ Ford pickup. Someone had turned it into a 4x4 ditch runner. I stripped it down to the rubber tires. Went back all original. My hardest part was getting to the rear cab bolts and finding some glass for it. Took me 5 years for the restoration. I took my time and did the research. I would love to have posted some pictures of it, but they were lost in the house fire and the truck also. The house was insured, but the truck wasn’t. I did manage to collect a little money from it, but not enough to replace what I had put into it. I learned a lesson in making sure everything is covered under insurance when it’s on the property.
What a heartwarming journey, I wish you all the best, cannot wait to see the finished product, God Bless you and your Family.
Your dad would be proud. Well done.
You have jerked my heart strings with this video. We need an update on the truck please.
I subscribed for a couple reasons. First, I love the truck and will really enjoy watching it's resurrection. Second, and most important, I love the story. It is obvious that this is a labor of love, and that makes any project worth doing, but the love for your dad seems to be the biggest motivating factor for this restoration. That alone will make this worth following. I would also like to comment on what a wonderful job you have done on the two videos I watched. You have provided both a visual and audio storyline that allows the viewer an informative and relaxed experience. Most of us love nostalgia, and the tone you have set provides us opportuity to soak in days gone by. Looking forward to more.
Wow. Can’t wait to see mom’s face light up when it rolls back In the yard at home. I love this story. Good luck with the restoration!!
Been watching, very impressive. Got me in the heart! Your Dad is proud, good people down there. Herbie in Illinois
I used to own a green 54, favorite Ford truck, my dad had a black 55
I followed because I'm excited to see the outcome. This not only honors your father's memory but restores American history.
Going to try to help get my grandpas old '48 running again soon. Looking forward to seeing how your dad's truck turns out!
I look forward to your journey.... honoring your Dad.
While I am in the "keep it as it is" crowd, I understand your desire to restore it. I hope things are going as well they can be for this truck and it gets back to being on the road.
Rest in paradise to your dad what a beautiful truck
I will wait for the next episode. Wish you the best. Regards from Lisbon/Portugal.
WOW ...What a treasure you have there with a V-8 AND ALL so original ...love it from Australia :)
What an amazing story you have going. Fantastic cinematography and editing. Can't wait to watch this evolve! Thank you for the great content.
Great looking truck....great candidate for a sweet sleeper.....a shot of clear on it....bam!
Watching from Queensland Australia, we are excited for you too
Very cool...glad you keeping her original, looking foward to updates.
I'm a huge Ford fan! I love the truck! It reminds me of when my dad passed away. He left me a 61 Chevy Belair. It was a 4dr and it had the 283 with a power glide 2spd and dual exhaust. I was 21 at the time and was so poor I couldn't afford to fix/restore it. It was so rusted in 1990 that I sold it ( I was an idiot) but I wish to God I'd of kept it. Please let us see video 3 and so on! Thanks for the experience.
beautiful truck, I cant wait to see her finished and on the road again. Thanks for sharing
A true labor of love.
Thank you for taking the time to share your family’s story!
Thanks for keeping it original. I love these old trucks.

I can't wait to see this done. Love Ford trucks. Keeping it original is the best. I have a 1928 Model A truck that was a barn find. I am keeping it all original. I drive it like I found it. No paint. Just maintenance. She drives great
Hello,

Very good.
Love vintage cars
waiting for the next video.
I love your story and I love this old truck. My grandfather had an old truck like that for his service station. I’d give anything to have it today.
my uncle Jack, who lived across the street from us, had a 1950 or so Ford truck. you always knew by the sound of it climbing the hill to his house that he was home. very distinctive. good luck with your project
