  • This isn't like a normal video I make but I think it's important to share for those looking to find out how to change the air filter in the Roadtrek. I couldn't find anything on it myself. Hope it can help someone else out there at some point.

    An air filter of the type that you installed should be changed about every 10,000 miles.

  • @marzsit9833
    @marzsit9833 2 года назад +4

    well, 100k miles is possible if you stick to paved roads but if you drive on dirt roads it may only last 10k miles. it really is best to check it once a year, now that you know how to get the doghouse off it's really not that difficult or time consuming.

    An air filter should be changed every 6-10 thousand miles...for the cost of an air filter, as well as the simplicity, I change mine myself with every oil change which is every 3000 miles.

    🙂Only saying 'ditto' about the need of when to replace air filter. But, with the amount of driving you would do - miles, climate, weather, etc - I'd look at doing it more when on the road . It doesn't hurt to keep it changed and it's a fairly inexpensive maintenance item. I don't know if Al did this or if it is already marked - with the doghouse off a good idea to map spark plug wires off the distributor. That is another fairly inexpensive maint. item that you can DIY ($$ if going to auto shop to fix). But, keep up the good work - CHEERS! 🍺🍺(one for Al!)

    Well done Tracey! 👍 I agree with some other people here, 100k miles (169,834 kms) for Air Filter change seems a very long time as my mechanic changes mine every 10,000 kms & my car has only done 182,000 kms in 21yrs 😵‍💫 Maybe Vans like yours are different? 🤔🤗🐨🇦🇺

    The air filter needs to be changed more often than every 100,000 miles. I've always changed mine every 3rd oil charge, so around 15,000 miles

  • @namerican8510
    @namerican8510 2 года назад +1

    Air filter every third oil change at the most and with that engine spark plugs should be changed every 30 to 50 k at the most. Also, check and clean the external transmission cooler coil often, Chrysler has a hose clamp that can leak which will cause fluid to leak and eventually coat the cooler and radiator with fluid that will then collect dirt and not let air pass through causing overheating and very expensive repairs. Don't park facing downhill in the rain either unless you've drilled a weap hole in the front bottom of your fuse box and attach a drain tube for moisture about an inch or 2 long to help keep dust out also. Use "Corrosion X" to saturate the fuses and wires in this compartment to protect them. Water tends to follow the harness entering this box and will fill up and corrode or short out things and possibly cause the ECM to go bad prematurely because of voltage issues and shorting because a drain isn't installed allowing water to escape. The engine is solid but the transmission and electronics leave a lot to be desired if simple preventative measures that the engineers missed aren't taken.

      N.American-
      Good advice on those problem/ poorly engineered areas.Chrysler hired a lot of crack head engineers. 😳
      Chryslers are terrible,in general.I try and avoid working on them if possible.Fords too 😃 I'm a Chevy guy.
      Anyway, that air filter is really bad,don't let them get anywhere near like that.Replace every 25K or so.Dont even think of anywhere near100K miles at changes.
      Those older engines especially,need frequent inspection,hoses/ belts/ lines/filters/ all fluids/ vaccum lines/etc etc
      That engine is neglected.
      Van engines are notoriously neglected,most mechanics too lazy to pull van doghouses off,just like the oil change monkeys told you 🙈🙉🙊
      Always carefully wipe out the air filter housing,if that dirty..
      I'm sure fuel filter needs replaced.PVC valve too.Probably tranny filter+ fluid also,from looks of engine.Operated in those dusty conditions,do frequent oil/ filter changes also.
      Spark Plugs probably,and distributer cap needs changed,or scraped towers/ wiped out or at least inspected.
      Any of those old parts will stop you cold, especially on a 21 year old ride,that's out on open road,and not just around town rig.
      People who are new to car maintenance,should go to Scotty Kilmers RUclips channel.Dudes hilarious,and expert old honest mechanic.They are very rare these days,Scotty has lot of great tips and tricks of the trade.

    Air filters can last five minutes in a really dirty environment and get clogged and can go well over 100,000 miles without a problem depends on your environment.

    Not a 100,000miles sorry ,you should be checking and cleaning that filter every 6months or 40thousand miles ,oil and oil filter at or before the service recommended interville ,oil is cheap ,and doing more frequent changes helps with engine life.
    Shop around for quality oil and filters on special .
    Check your transmission service requirements ,that's very important.
    Also find out where the fuel filter is .
    Why that cover was off ,I would have looked at the drive belts for air con and alternator etc ,see how to change those ,know how to replace them on the road side ,and have the belts spare .
    You'll have to spend a day just looking over and under the van ,get to understand how things work .
    Wheel bearings,brake pads are all within your capabilities if you are shown before hand .
    Water hoses are worth checking ,have spare hose clams ,spare water hose or materials to make shift repairs .
    How is the anti freeze in your van ,has it been checked ?
    How old is it ?
    Brake fluid,how old is that ,has it been changed, system bled out ?
    We should be seeing more videos about you learning to be a mechanic I think ,you may need overalls to wear ,a hair net ,and gloves .😜
    Ask ,read service manuals ,look at You Tube how to videos so you know what to expect if problems arise .
    You can do ,then you can teach other Ladies how to ,give them the confidence to at least try .😊
