wow. the best youtube tutorial video i've ever seen! succinct, under 2 minutes, thorough and with no questions after. we could not figure out "what are were missing". thank you.
Thank you Leo! I've been waiting for months for the landlord to replace the lock but with your instructions, I can do it myself. You made it elegantly simple, Leo!
Very helpful video with key information about how to remove the old lock and how to easily identify the correct replacement lock. We followed your instructions and replacing a broken lock with a new one was a breeze! Thank you for making a short, concise video with great tips!
Leo - Thank you, thank you, thank you! Your simple but direct video just saved me from having to replace a sliding door in preparation for a home sale. Instead of $2-$3K, I spent only $37.81 for a new latch that was easily installed - and $15 of that was for expedited shipping! Your video is RUclips at its best. Thanks again!
Thank you for a clear and concise video. My lock stopped working last night. Fortunately we had extra locks from the last time this happened (I was not the one who switched it out then), and I was able to switch it out in 5 minutes, without calling anyone for help. I really appreciate you and your instructions.
Wow! Very precise, under two minutes extremely informative video. I was able to fix the lock on my patio sliding door yesterday within minutes. To the point and easy to understand. I loved the idea of keeping a pen or a thin screwdriver in the lower hole so that the unit does not fall inside. Thank You so much Leo!
This is an excellent how-to video. All the details I needed to know to make quick work of replacing a latch mechanism that Pella sent me without instructions. Well done, and thank you!
I want to say thank you very much for this video. It helped me identify the part I needed to replace and I was able to order the prime line part easily from amazon. It was a successful repair and resolved a big headache. Again, Thanks!
Nice instructional video Leo!! Best I could find on this topic; sure saved me a whole lot of time, money, and from foolish attempts to take the whole door apart! Thanks a bunch!
Thank you twice over. First, for the pen trick. Second, for pointing out the difference among the three lock types. Such simple info--and so hard to find.
Excellent video. I encountered a small glitch. If you watch the video, just after 1:05 my latch did not slide out. It had been stuck there for years. I had to gently tap it in so that it became unstuck and then nudged it down so that the latch came down by an inch and then I was able to slide it out. All else worked as shown. Thanks for the video. It saved a lot on time and labor.
Thank you. I watched your video a few times to make sure I followed your instructions!! Success. I'm very grateful to you for making this video. All the Best!
Thanks so much clear concise easy to follow, and quick. Only difference in my door is this giant u shaped channel of metal which slides around on its own, a little bit fiddly, but your video made it so much easier, lucky I have needle nose vice grips (this was the key instruction missing from written ones in the package the previous time I had to do this, that took 30 minutes to fish the old one out with a magnet).
Thank You for the Video Sliding Door Mortise Lock. One point you mentioned Vertical Key slot, and the Angle key slot. I could only purchase the Vertical Key slot. Needing the Angle Key slot replacement. But the Vertical Key slot worked fine. Thank You.
Thank you for this tutorial. Using the information from your video the total replacement time was only 10 minutes (not counting the trip to the hardware store).
Wow, this was great! You did a great job of explaining the steps, and now all I have to do is have my husband do this! Thank you for sharing your skills.
Excellent video, thank you !! One thing I would add, in my case at least, don't remove the temporary holding rod until the new latch is in, because it will release an interior frame. Thanks again!
Thank you for explaining the differences in the mortise lock. I wasn’t sure if I needed to buy the vertical or 45 angle one! It seemed like a trick at the hardware store. Lol. Can you elaborate please on the last part with adjusting that final screw on the lock itself? What is it and what’s it do exactly?
I just received my Prime line MP 1018 sliding door handle. Included is a black rectangular piece that says nights lock with an arrow pointing to the left. What do I do with this? There were no instructions whatsoever with my handle.
@@ritawashere5787 You can find the instruction for this item on the page here: www.primeline.net/c-1018-handle-set-3-1516-diecastwood-aluminum under the Specifications as: Documents : C 1018-INS.PDF
I’m having trouble despite the instructions. My original mortise lock fell into the door so I have no idea what size/model I need. I put a e2014 with a 45 degree in but it doesn’t seem right. I have to really push a lot to get it locked down. What am I doing wrong?
Without getting the old lock out I can't say what model you would need. If you already have the E-2014 installed, did you try adjusting the hook distance adjusting screw on the face of the lock. Adjusting this might help.
@@PrimeLineHowTo I did try everything I could think of. I wound up taking it out to return. Something is wrong there. I’m not sure if it’s the “catch” where the lock is supposed to click into or if it’s the lock itself. A handyman said he wouldn’t be able to help me without the original mortise lock so I have no idea what I should do at this point.
@@Ripley_Ellen To get the original lock, you'd have to take the door out of the track and flip it over so the lock will slide back down to the hole. That's a two person job.
@@Ripley_Ellen The other way is with a STRONG magnet. Press the magnet against the frame, towards the bottom, and slide it up towards the hole. Usually the frame is aluminum or vinyl, so the magnet will slide easily and should bring the lock back up to the hole. Put a rag between the magnet and the frame to prevent scratching.
Help, I do not have the handle or the lock of my sliding glass door. I purchased a mobile home and didn't even realize it until now that literally there is no handle on the sliding glass door. There is a solid part on the door jamb that has a hook on it. As for the glass door itself there is a sort of rectangle square shape cut in the metal door. It is 1 5/16 inches long by almost 1 inch wide. And that is as wide as the door is. Please, I'm begging somebody to help me. I ordered a door lock everything and it was the wrong size. I don't know what to do.
The mortise lock doesn't come with the keeper. A new installation would be different than just replacing the lock, and keeping the same keeper as most people would be doing. We currently have 67 different keepers on our website, and filming each one would take forever.
Powerful magnet, or if you're careful, and have a friend to help, you can take the door out, and tilt it over so the lock slides back up and out the hole. Good Luck!!!
Uhh, how about showing how you actually installed it, instead of just saying "in the reverse order"? It's actually pretty tricky to get the lock in there and screwed in. How did you do it?
In the reverse order. Use pliers, or better yet vice grips like we used to slide the lock in and get it lined up with the mounting holes. Not easy to do with only two hands, but easier with a helper to hold onto the lock while you install the screws. Be sure to use the "pen trick" so you don't drop the lock down into the frame.
wow. the best youtube tutorial video i've ever seen! succinct, under 2 minutes, thorough and with no questions after. we could not figure out "what are were missing". thank you.
seriously my brain just fried from not having to sift through all the nonsense and what if and unneccesary details. This was the best tutorial ever.

Good advice
My mortise fell into the door and I bought a replacement that doesn't fit. Trying now to take pane out to tip it up
My lock breaks (internally) every couple years. Suggestions to keep it working?
Something that looked impossible suddenly was made to look so easy...there's a life lesson here somewhere!
How do I know if I don't have yhe lock. It fell inside the door 😢
My latch doesn’t come out at all. Any suggestions?
I'm not Leo, but I will pass the message along to him. Thanks for watching.
Our old lock latch is reversed - the hook faces down instead of up. Not sure what type it is.
I have a door latch that won’t engage and is locked shut. How can can I fix this so the door will open.
Could not find an exact replacement. Mine has a wider gap.
How do I change the lock mechanism.
This tutorial is for changing the latch not the lock itself.

I cant get the [part back in the door
