Carry down without using urethane. I've been arguing this with folks for 2 years. There is no way 100% of the oil will be absorbed by your ball. Some oil is being redistributed on every shot thrown.
@kylemc8851 Because too many bowlers complain or make excuses about one thing or another. One of the biggest is that urethane messes up their recovery spot down lane. All bowling balls carry down oil. If the spot gets ornery, you have to change zones, angles, or equipment to combat it. The primary amount of complainers are normally "one dimensional" bowlers who don't have a full arsenal of different shots.
This I a great video. So many people don't know or understand what you just showed. A buddy who bowls was over and we happened to throw the PBA on, where you can see the oil. This was something that was amazing to watch happen in real time. Especially with 2 bowlers using Urethane! I hope someday that could be used as a coaching and video tool. Keep up the good work!
Brian: After just 15 minutes of two players practicing, 38 feet can resemble 40 feet. Add 6 more players and give em all urethane equipment, and all of a sudden 38 feet turns into 50 feet lol
was thinking the same thing. For someone like me who's just an amateur Thursday night league bowler the amount of people throwing all different lines really plays havoc on the oil
@@tonyguerrier2258 yep and you get the guys that don't have the rev rate to throw urethane doing it anyway and just messing up your line. Most house shots I bowled on would dry out as they were just applying more oil on the front before each league and there was already carry down. Before one league where they stripped the lanes before they oiled them, there was no oil on the back end so that caused what you described. As a right hander, I would keep moving right the first game or two as the oil carried down. Eventually some the oil would dry and I would start moving left. Most of the alleys I bowled would strip the lanes once a week. There was always that one day each week where the lanes would score the best. This was 20 years ago so I don't know if this is still common today.
That's an excellent point that I never considered, and you don't hear talked about much. How often does bowling center management strip off the carrydown oil on the lane between the pattern and the pins?
@@peteg475 I bet it's not too often. Always come into league and just feel like the lanes are murky rather than having clean backends even during practice. Along with never wiping any oil off the pin deck, it can lead to some tough time scoring with pins sliding that should probably be falling.
Urethane flares less which will keep more oil where the ball is rolling. This oil will move down lane faster than an oil-absorbent bowling ball coverstock. Same goes for shiny vs dull. Good question!
@@horseshoe_nc Kinda - it's the trail of oil left on your ball from the spin axis changing as the weight block settles into it's preferred spin axis. I don't need to do it unless i'm having fun. And it's okay to do it for fun so as long as your not spending much money. I haven't bought a ball in 20 years or so, so there you know where I stand. Although bowling is a game of Spares and I learned that years ago. And I guess that's because lanes change, and nobody can blame the commission for the facts that the lanes change, and I don't know whether anybody can make a lane3 that doesn't change, and I guess that remains to be seen as of yet. Also I have bowled long enough to know that carry is crucial, but the amount of carry depends upon how much oil is on the lane, or how much room you decide to give the ball based on how much oil and how slow or fast that you throw it. However once one gets that worked out then he must get that hook at the very end right to get a strike, and that's the problem. How much room, how hard to throw it, and make sure that it carries first and then hooks always because it doesn't matter if it hits brooklyn, or even through the nose, and that's because it carries and it hooks right, and thus that cancels where you hit it out because you have enough hook and carry to begin with. Well hope this helps you. I agree that carry is everything though he's right.
There will certainly be more two handers in bowling's future. That being said, there are many one handed bowlers that generate as much, and some even more, rev rate than some of the two handers. EJ Tackett is one of those guys. Thanks for watching and thanks for your comments!

That's hard to answer very specifically as the ball choice could depend on the oil pattern being used, the lane surface and the individual bowlers ball speed, rev rate and ball roll. Sometimes as the oil moves and the lanes transition a bit the correct adjustment could be using the same ball but making moves laterally with the feet and target. Thanks for watching and thanks for the question!
I play that faithful down and in from the 10 board right off. But so does everyone else on my team and half the teams we bowl. Learning to really keep the elbow rotated in and stay behind the ball more and I found I have a powerful roll with little hook but more a snap at the end . For me that is keeping the ball from the 11 to the 20. Anything out side the 10 is going to scream back left because the oil is gone and their is early friction. Stay behind it and it goes longer before turning and mostly the ball is not burning up its energy and not carry. Low rev players need to concentrate their game to play in the oil more I think. You would think the opposite, but you do not always need a huge angle and a forward roll also means a little more speed and that is not always bad. Having multiple attacks angles and even balls to change to with less surface. To me it is a must if you want to really hold anything north or 200 average. Bryan O'Keefe looks like he can bust out a few good dad jokes. All joking aside thanks for the vid. Also, boooooooo. Lefties have it so much easier!
It's just in your head that we Southpaws have it easier.
Right handed bowlers can build up a wall much faster and easier than Southpaws, since there are sometimes very few of us bowling.
I've been in tournaments, and league play, where I didn't have a shot whatsoever, and right handers had a wall, and were putting up scores that I couldn't come close to.
@Jim GarrettI agree with this. Only joking. :-)
I actually think it is harder to be a lefty because you don't get the benefit of bowling on the burn by the third game in league.
And then there are the jabbronies like me that throw urathane at the 7 and 10 pins to mess you guys up even more.
@@tonguetwista1313 It seems the stats though do support that left side players score more. Left handed people are 1 in 10. But several times you see 1 or 2 out of the top five in an event, be lefties.
I'll give you a like.... but that face in the end bro... you just about lost the like and sub.... 😆 🤣 😂
Nice video…..lousy tee shirt 😆
Richie Lucord (Me) 2 handed Left Handed
(My Teammate) Nathan Galicia 1 handed Left handed Tweener
Me and my Teammate has a Hard time dealing with Carry down at league, I start with my Idol Helios at 2000 Grit on the First game I was Striking a lot and scoring High and the Second game it looked Good, at the third last game I lost it at the Bottom left a 3 pin and Flat 7 pin
My Teammate Nathan
He starts with his Code X and in the First game he is Striking a lot, Second game Looked OK striking some, third Game He Lost it at the Bottom Left a Bucket 3 pin 9 pin
We Both Moved a couple boards out and Still Labored down lane or Ran into Early Friction
Give Both of us some tips on how to deal with carry down or our balls are starting to Burn up and they are Laboring
That wasn't much of a tip
Shannon doing her best to pretend like she has no idea what he's talking about 😂
Your snideness is just what’s wrong in our world. She and her very talented husband are sharing knowledge (for free), to help others. Sad you have to diminish their intentions by insulting her in anyway.
It's a harmless joke. Everyone knows the way Shannon is asking questions is for the benefit of the viewer. Lighten up.
@@Ftybr57 bruh
@@Ftybr57 I just thought it was funny that Shannon, a PWBA champion, is pretending like she has to ask Brian about carrydown. If there's anything wrong with our culture, it's people taking harmless jokes, turning them upside down, and getting butthurt about it. Grow up.
She is playing best supporting actress and letting her husband have a little camera time. She certainly was capable of explaining, but the head coach of Team USA every once in awhile deserves a bone.
Completely obvious to any decent league bowler!
What a horrible tip
