Well, not quite that many. In typical league play you have guys who throw straight balls, guys who have no follow through, guys who take a 5 step approach and THEN start their back swing...There are a lot of beginners, and bowlers who have bowled for years, and still bowl like beginners, haha. But this is an excellent video. If I move left and my ball doesn't have the finish I want to take out the corner pins, I am going to take Brad's advice and make a move right but with higher ball speed or a weaker ball. This stuff really makes sense!
i need guidance on this. I'm going bowling with my friends this weekend. I bowl on my schools team but my friends are just casuals looking to hang out. Problem is, the only place most casuals throw is down the middle. i have a feeling this will eat up the oil in the middle. I'm a 2 hander. what should I do?
This helped out a lot! Thank you. Although I'm a lefty bowler, so I move right, but the concept is the same. Thanks again, love watching your PBA Games (Behind the Scenes) on Darren Tang's Channel. You guys are awesome.
Hey Brad and Kyle, can you make a video explaining the difference between solid, pearl, and hybrid coverstocks on reactive resin balls and which one is best for you?
I have found on aTHS, ESPECIALLY when they start breaking down and transitioning hard, usually starting to leave flat tens. Try starting with a small one board eye move to the left for a right hander. it will also tighten up your swing. Works!!!
Go to channel for tips for sure. Before covid 19 I was a 190 average on sport shots and after I watched your vids over the break and came back to shooting 210. Thank you so much and hope you luck on your events
Perfect Video. I had only 3 balls by storm. The first one I had was a low hook rating. The other two I had were the Tropical Heat and Fringe. They both have good hook rating for State Tournaments. They are mediocre for the bigger tourneys.
Guess what I am going out to my bowling tournament at bowling alley on June 19,2021 but I am so ready and getting nervous and stressed out about I have my Possibility Bowling tournament at bowling alley on June 19,2021.
Great information as always, guys. It'll be awesome if you can make a video about how to handle a destroyed lane due to open bowling. More than once I go to bowl at the end of the day, and unless you pay extra for a re-oil, you have to practice with a lane that has no oil pattern at all, or is all over the place due to carry down. So, trying to actually making good shots is frustrating. I've found myself moving up and down and every time is a different reaction.
The lanes will tell you where you need to be to play. Bowling earlier in the day or bowling on lanes that don't get much play should help. If the house typically has open play around the center, ask for pairs on the ends and vice versa. Besides most bowling centers don't get enough open play that will trash a pair of lanes that it becomes unplayable. If that's the case, ask for a pair that's had less play on it. But I'd stick with the trashed pair and try to challenge yourself to make better shots. There's always a 300 game on every pair regardless of condition, you just got to match your equipment and your game and try to find it. When the lanes get tough, those who score well make their spares. Spares are what increases your average not the amount of strikes you have during a particular set.
If you’re practicing, it really doesn’t matter how good or bad the lane condition is. Now if your idea of practice is just bowling a lot of games and seeing how many strikes you can get, or how high you can average, I can see where a torched pair of lanes will be frustrating. However there are lots of things that you can work on that don't require fresh oil. Just pick one or two things to work on that aren’t measured by Xs on the score board.
I laugh when some of my fellow bowlers tell me they can’t play as far left as me. Yet our rev rates are all similar (Specto tested). Slowing the ball speed down is crucial once you move deeper inside.
@@xPandora__ It's easier to change ball speed than revs, dude. Kris Prather won $100k on the TOC by moving left slowing his ball speed to 17mph. Anthony Simonsen slowed down to 17mph to play inside in Las Vegas, because South Point's lanes are really firm and slick. Each have a 450-500rpm. Speed control is crucial to manipulating shape on shots. Leaving flat corners? Add some hand rotation and slow the feet.
Thanks, I messed up my wrist at the beginning of last season and had to go to a Robby's III brace. Now, I'm straight up the back and have found that I move right first and then increase speed if I've moved more than 4 boards parallel. I'm practicing daily, we're back in GA, and cannot yet go 3 games without the brace.
You guys should 100% start up a bowlers Discord that your community can join. Maybe pop in once in awhile to talk to your fans and subs that have questions they'd enjoy asking. I love your videos but my questions rarely get answered on here so it made me think of how awesome it would be if you guys had a public discord and if you maybe set a once a month or twice a month time where you got onto the discord and talked to everyone. 🎳
An additional adjustment if you choose to move right instead of left, especially with today's balls. Adjust your wrist position. A bit harder to do, but you can start with your hand more to the side of the ball, rather than under it. You don't have to speed up as much that way, the ball will go longer before it eventually turns over, and flare significantly less. However, it's easier to miss left this way (for a righty), and you are relying more on wrist/finger strength to keep the ball moving in plane. you need to practice it though.
I will do the same with ball speed or sometimes change a hand position to my pinky tucked to get around it a little more moving left than with my pinky extended. Sometimes I will start with the weaker ball and throw 20 to 10 and then move left and ball up to something more aggressive while others are just trying to increase speed on the same line. Having options is great depending on what others are doing. Most people in my league are lower rev rate where I'm around 380-400. Norm Duke often changes hand positions like that and he is who I learned it from at a Pro-Am many years ago.
Very helpful stuff. My ball tends to go a little straighter with a little bit of hook, and I hardly ever make the adjustment to move left. I'll have to remember this next time I practice, lol. Would love to get a "heart" from you guys.
How did you arrive to a 4 to 2 shift? Is this something that will always take some rolls before arriving to this conclusion? Is there a formula or pattern that can help arrive to this conversation (because finding this 4 to 2 could take two or more frames which is a huge deal and difficult between a W or not) or is this just a lot of bowling experience? Thanks!
You guys are doing are a great jog. Love your videos. Think you can show. Your feet from where you start and after you make your moves? I'm also a down and in bowler with little to NO revs...sad i know. Ive noticed oil seems to carry down and i have to move right. Am I seeing things?
Great vid! Question, you're on your 10 min of practice, you throw a shot and it comes in with a strike. You shoot another on the opposite lane and strike again. Are you lined up? Do you try another line and test waters or are you satisfied with original line? Do you open your angles to see ow far you can push it?TTYL
Question What if I start right of everyone (down board 7 or 8) to start. Then when I move left I move into an area where everyone else has been and the lane is kind of burned up there. Could I actually move even farther right to find a little oil because no one has been playingdown board 6?
The biggest thing that worked for me is hand position. At the apex of your back swing, if your hand is behind the ball, your ring and middle fingers will be pointing down at the 6 o'clock position. (I'm assuming you are a righty). What you need to do is to bend your wrist until your ring and middle fingers are pointing at the 8 o'clock position. This is called the strong finger position, and it is useful as it allows your fingers to give the ball more revs. It's even better if you cup your hand. Just picture your hand on TOP of the ball and a bit to the right of the ball already. You can't rev the ball very much this way as you release because your hand is already at the finish point. By cupping your wrist, you get your hand UNDER the ball, and by using the strong finger position, you give your hand more of a windup and more room to lift through the ball from left to right. Try it and see if it helps. It helped me anyway.
Do the oil patterns change between bowling alleys? I just started at a new alley. I used to able to throw the ball down the right hand side and it would hook back and hit the right hand pin for a spare. The new place I bowl just seems to go in the gutter. I think the old place had more dry on the side allowing it to stay out of the gutter. I was wondering if anyone else had any ideas.
Yes, the patterns are different between each house. Where I live the 3 alleys near me ones heavier oil, ones medium and the last is dry. You got to be able to adjust to each condition. Are you talking a 10 pin spare? If so you would move left and throw over the middle arrow (I'm assuming you're right handed.).
@@MrLohken I have started to get a little better at it. Yes the far right pin seems to be the hardest. I have just started hooking in the past couple months. So I could be throwing my spare ball a little different. I haven't tried throwing at angles like I think you are saying. I guess that is something I need to learn.
Would be fun to see your guys thoughts on defensive bowling where you chose your line just inside of the other teams best bowler and try to make their line less predictable when it transitions.
great vid as i watch all that have come out, just a few questions, why does Kyle make noises when releasing his ball and what do you guys do with all the bowling balls you dont use anymore? do you donate them or give them to highschools??? thanks
Good video, but disappointed that they didn't point out that by moving left, sometimes that allows you to create more margin for error to hit the pocket. Throw it a bit left... Hitting more oil makes the ball go longer. Miss a bit right... Hitting the dry quicker makes the ball hook earlier.
Oh I miss the days of launching from the foul line at board 39, skidding over to and hanging on to the corner of the 1st board by gyroscopic effect only, watching the ball come back from sure gravitational demise 15 feet later to grab that dry wood to dust the gutter after brushing the 1-3-5-7 pins. Taking the 17 year laneshine off this weekend to bring it back. Haha.
My house shot has wicked dry backends to start and then they go away quite quickly. So I"ll start at point A, but I end up at B which is ALWAYS right (right handed bowler). This has been difficult for me to adjust to since I'm used to the scenario you portreyed in this video. But It's not unusual for me to move over 10 boards to the right throughout the night to compensate for backends going away. Right now I have to stand 35 and aim 10 at the range finders. I prefer to primary target the dots, but can't keep my ball on the lane at this house doing that so I have moved my primary target downlane. It's a very difficult shot for me and I've struggled all season trying to master it. Can you make a video helping with this kind of shot or point me towards a helpful video?
These are great tips 👌 but if your ball driller just gives you a ganeric fitting , then nothing you do is going to have an impact, and you struggle forever. Where can I get a good ball driller????
Need to do a video showing how the lanes transition for lefties when the righties shoot at cross lanes spares and track the oil into a lefties break point.
so i have a question, i have bowled for many years with a right arm that is pretty much stuck at a 90 degree angle, was the way i was born, any advice to help the roll of the ball, im on the side all the time and cant get to that pro release
I start with a pyramid force 16 4 th dot left through to 4 th dot 16 to 17 mph then I move right 1 dot to start and 3 rd dot with an IQ tour as the lane brakes down I go to the outside right Cherry Vibe 16 2nd dot right both to start and my mark.
I just started bowling more regularly and I have been hitting around 120-130. Is there any advice you have about someone who wants to bowl better, what some good bowling balls to invest in as I just use house balls, how to get a better approach and any advice for someone who would love to bowl in the PWBA/PBA?
Make sure to buy one ball made of plastic which will remain straight to pick up spares. Picking up a spare is critical to improving your average. Secondly, talk to a pro shop owner and have him identify your roll and determine what revolution rate, speed and factor what angle your ball rotates. This will help him determine how to drill your bowling balls. He will also try to choose from the information gathered a few options for you in balls to drill for you. You should start with a ball that has a low hook potential for starters until you get experienced with a hooking ball before using an advanced ball that hooks a lot. He can help you out all along the way.
bobfishnut thanks for the advice. I will look into that. I just feel I could be good as I said I am bowling in the 120s and I only really recently been bowling regularly as before this year I had bowled maybe 6 times in my life and since the start of this year I have bowled probably about 15 times. And only recently have I been hitting 100+ and that was due to what I have learned from channels like Brad and Kyle here. I feel if I can get some good balls and learn a few more things I have a shot at really improving my game and possibly competing in league matches and hopefully be good enough to compete in the PWBA.
@@NoNameChannel789 sounds good 👍! Keep it up and continue watching as many videos as you can. There's all sorts of videos ranging from bowling ball technology to bowling lane condition changes, many tips and coaching available. Pros are always improving themselves and their averages get well into the 200's. Good luck to you!
bobfishnut thank you. I talked with a friend of mine and I think I know what bowling balls I want to get. As he said the Tforce for a spare ball and the Rhino for a ball to learn to hook on.
I have a big problem with my hand position at the bottom of my swing right before I release. Sometimes I come around the ball early, and sometimes I come up the back of the ball and it dies down lane. How can I get the same type of release as Kyle and still get the ball to finish like its supposed to? Anything will help, thanks in advance!
I would love to see a pro tournament where the oil was consistent over the entire width of the lane and the players had to use either a rubber or plastic ball reminiscent of the 70's...what do you think the scores would be??? Where I am bowling alleys are closing up right and left...I think the easier lane conditions combined with the new balls starting in the 80's has contributed to the decline of bowling...I remember bowling in the 70's where on a 16 team league not one person bowled a 600... Someone who bowled a 700 was celebrated because it was probably a once in a season event...How has the popularity of bowling progressed over the last 30-40 or more years...I'd be interested to hear why you think that has happened?? thanks for the video...
I would expect the scores to be medium paced, with the top five averaging in the 230s. Honestly I have heard pros say plastic ball tournaments are some of the easiest to bowl. Everyone is throwing the same equipment so you don't have to worry about unexpected lane conditions such as when one person is throwing urethane, another is throwing weak reactive outside, another person highly aggressive reactive inside, and another person throwing plastic for whatever reason (that lane is going to be chaotic after a few games). In a plastic ball tournament the adjustments are few, minor, and predictable from pair to pair, especially since ball reaction will generally be weak. They key would be to balance speed and rotation with a scuffed piece of plastic and playing a really direct line from the right part of the lane. I guarantee you that the same people making cuts now and winning tournaments are the same ones that would win in the scenario you are proposing.
I don't have the hand either to move left unless the lanes have broken down significantly. I do stay right and pick up my speed but when that happens my stuff tends to not finish and I will leave a little bit of everything, 9 pin here flat 10 pin there etc. By the end of the night I would have a good 1st game (averaging 227 first game), a clean 190 second game, thrid game around the same and I'm staring at a 610 series. I'm not sure what to do
When you’re just starting a league night and you’re practicing, where do you usually start with your feet and eyes to begin finding your mark? Is there a common spot?
Question for you two! Cheetah Pattern. I was lining up on 20 and shooting up the 1st arrow from the right. Was I lined up correctly? I also moved and stood on 30 with my eyes going on the 3rd arrow in from the right. These shots were with the Brunswick Vintage Vapor Zone. Recently switched over to Hammer btw lol
I have a direct question for Brad and/or Kyle: why is it that I have been getting more ball motion with my !Q Emerald than any of my solid balls, especially the Crux Prime? Note for the Prime, it maybe has two games on it since it was de-oiled. I'd greatly appreciate some input. Thanks, guys!
I suspect what your seeing is not more motion it's a quick motion, solid balls read earlier and have smoother arcing reaction. The emerald is a pearl it will go long have a hard snapping angular reaction. It's the difference in surface.
What if a lower rev player wants to move left but because the other bowlers started left and removed the oil where you want to move left to? In that case, is it advisable to loft to delay the hook or move right and switch to a symmetrical or less agressive ball?
What would you recommend when the lanes are so cliffed that when you chase it left you Greek church when you get it right and you 2-8-10 when you don’t?
Bowling on cliffed conditions is probably the most frustrating scenario in the modern game and it usually requires making a ball and/or release change. Generally speaking you have to pick a side, either play the puddle or play the desert. If you visualize the cross section of the pattern there will be a zone where the oil line is extremely steep on either side of that the shape levels back off, those narrow zones are where you want to go. If someone else on the pair is having success in one of those zones pick a ball that will let you play there, otherwise pick the side that’s most comfortable for you. Keep your angles tight in either case as these zones are narrow. Based upon your question my guess is you prefer to move in, and more than likely you aren’t moving your eyes enough left so you aren’t staying in the puddle down lane. Instead of making 2-1s or 4-2s, try like 8-6 and then tweak from there.
I have the exact opposite problem on a THS. I start left but as games go on I get less hook and have to move right. Any ideas why that may be? I am using a Hammer Raw, by game 3 I'm super far right. I wipe down the ball each shot but it does feel more oily as time goes on so I am not sure why
I have to move left, I don't have a choice. As it is, with my 200 RPM rev and 17 MPH speed, The only way I have a chance at a pocket shot is rolling straight down the 5-8 boards.
Not necessarily. My league shot about the 3rd game if anything forces me 5 boards right due to carrydown unless you stay where you are or move 5 left with less speed.
A+ video! Probably applies to 99.9999% of bowlers.
I was literally asking myself this question last week.

Would be fun to see your guys thoughts on defensive bowling where you chose your line just inside of the other teams best bowler and try to make their line less predictable when it transitions.
Kyle, ...."when I went high"...lmao! You guys rock!
By the way I want a cool tshirt, with your guys name (and mine I must say..😏
Brad can u do a ball video on axiom plez
great vid as i watch all that have come out, just a few questions, why does Kyle make noises when releasing his ball and what do you guys do with all the bowling balls you dont use anymore? do you donate them or give them to highschools??? thanks
Hi Tony!
Good question!
Can't speak for K/B directly, but pre-pandemic I know that a lot of those balls would be given away in some fashion. Nowadays who knows.
Thank you
Good video, but disappointed that they didn't point out that by moving left, sometimes that allows you to create more margin for error to hit the pocket.
Nice vid. Next question, how do you adjust when the oil carries down on your breakpoint area and the front part is breaking down?
Loft or ball change to less surface or both, these save energy for driving through the rack.
At Sunset Station and Sam's Town the ball hooks like crazy.
I need to buy some lower end balls.
Brilliant!!!!! B&k
This is great advice. Brad, keep an eye on your hands when you talk, you almost hit Kyle in the head a couple times.
what the best RG and DIFF for low reavers and hi speed bowler plz
What about carry down and changing your roll or when to ball up? Chasing left is basic information.
Dope thanks
Love your videos! My problem is the wet dry. I move left, get the ball in the oil, it hydro planes and flat 10's ... miss right, 4-6 ... Help!!! 🤔🎳
Need this... my average would increase by 15 to 20 if I can only figure out that damn 2nd half of 2nd game..
When leaving the 3-10 like in this video Kyle mentions 4-2 ... Is it not okay just to move your feet (how does this effect the break point?)?Thanks!
Where did you get those shoes, Kyle?
What if a lower rev player wants to move left but because the other bowlers started left and removed the oil where you want to move left to? In that case, is it advisable to loft to delay the hook or move right and switch to a symmetrical or less agressive ball?
kyle got the belmo beard goin on in this video
I wish you would come to Rome ny to help me
What if you start as far left as possible, for a right hander? I guess i could tone the hook down and throw it slower, but what fun is that...
Shot a 269, 197 and a 213 for a 679 series on Tuesday night league.
epic videoooo
So left handed bowling move right or left
So what board were you aiming for before the adjustment?
It's also important to not move off of a miss/bad shot.
Why’d y’all drop out of trios😢I was so excited
How hard is this dude chucking em? Looks lightning quick compared to some pros ive seen
I have the exact opposite problem on a THS. I start left but as games go on I get less hook and have to move right. Any ideas why that may be? I am using a Hammer Raw, by game 3 I'm super far right. I wipe down the ball each shot but it does feel more oily as time goes on so I am not sure why
This is great now if they would just let bowling alleys in my area open
Loft?
I have to move left, I don't have a choice. As it is, with my 200 RPM rev and 17 MPH speed, The only way I have a chance at a pocket shot is rolling straight down the 5-8 boards.
Nice beard Kyle lol
Not necessarily. My league shot about the 3rd game if anything forces me 5 boards right due to carrydown unless you stay where you are or move 5 left with less speed.
So how do a left handed bowler handle it
Very much so appreciate this video. Averaged higher in a challenge league than house so need the help lol
So would this work the opposite way for lefties? Moving right?
Great point. The left is very different. Maybe we should get a lefty in here and talk lefty strategy.
@@BradandKyleBowl that would be awesome, thanks guys for the pointers you provide!
@@BradandKyleBowl the left is very different.. I guess that’s a kind way to put it.
What's a good speed for someone with 470 rpms
How about increasing the loft ?
Major mika
Correct, but can they decipher your clue?
