I have an old Samsung TAB A8 and it doesn't have DeX and it has smartview and it doesn't work. I tried to mirror my Galaxy S22 ---> TAB A8, I guess the TAB A8 is so old it doesn't detect, idk. Also trying to use Droid Cam from the S22 to my Ubuntu Desktop I downloaded OBS but find it sort of complicated. I guess your devices in the video are newer models, so no problems there. It seems the older TAB A8 only worked with smart tvs.
You actually have to research your tablets before you get them. Turns out the Samsung Tab versions before S7 and the ones that are Lite, FE or even the Tab A series cannot use HDMI because of their incompatible USB-C ports. So make sure that if you get a Samsung tablet, you have researched if it'll work with HDMI. Or else you'll have to compromise with Wi-Fi-based connections via apps like SuperDisplay. It's what put me off from buying the Tab S6 Lite and the FE versions - *none* of them support HDMI except for the original and the Plus/Ultra versions. In fact, I haven't been able to get myself any of the tabs at all :')
The price of such tablets that do work with an external monitor is so high that you can easily get a high-performance laptop for less! For instance, the new Galaxy TAB S9 and S10 series are in the EUR 800-1500 range in Europe, where you can also get a new generation Lenovo Thinkpad for 750-800 which is incomparably superior in terms of performance and what you can do with it, not to mention connectivity options to external monitors and peripherals, the only downside I see is maybe portability and battery life. But there are lighter/slimmer laptop options too, like the Lenovo IdeaPad 2-in-1.
You never mentioned this doesn't work with most tablets! You need to have a tablet with video out capability, namely a USB-C 3.0 port, and only some of the flagship tablets offer that (deliberately, I believe). Many tablets (such as the Samsung A9+) still use the USB 2.0 standard so that you can't output video to an external monitor, to force you to go for the much pricier versions if you need that! Rather than than, you'd be better off buying any laptop and avoid all the hassle, connect it to any monitor you want and do so much more than on a tablet.
I think this is the video I was looking for. I have a wired monitor-keyboard-mouse setup that use with my corporate laptop through USB-C but needed something simple for light editing and other personal use. It looks Samsung Dex could solve it for me.
Was watching this video, and yes, I had the same problem, but I came across the samsung Flow download app for Tab A9+ and PC. You are not able to use dex while in flow mode. I use flow so I can use my tablet as a iriun webcam, I've both screens and my obs open on my PC while I'm recording my videos, absolutely brilliant. Hope this helps.😊
Hello,do you use it with wired cables or not? I am planning to connect my tablet through an lcd monitor using hdmi since we have the same model of it, and thank you
@romnelrocamora8203 yes I use a USB to USB-C cable it will tell you which cable to use. once you're connected, I delete the first page. Your tablet screen will appear. Good look

Great Video! Question: is it possible to do a 'display on monitor alone' sort of setup? where my tablet screen can be off while i just use the monitor?
Yes! My monitor has a hub built in and once I plugged it in, initially it mirrored. When I put samsung Dex on they can function as separate screens. Go to samsung dex, external Display, and choose Use screen separately.
I think this only works with flagship devices. (Samsung phone S8 onwards and tab S4 onwards.) if your using a more recent tablet make sure your using "classic Dex" then you'll be able to use the monitor and tablet independently of each other. If you want to plug Hdd into the hub, you'll need a powered hub.
HI THERE! WHAT A GREAT VIDEO AND INFORMATION...THANK YOU!! Have only one question. Can you use ANY monitor to do this? Might it be better to use a Samsung monitor?
You sure yours is not S6 lite? S6 has USB 3.1 which can output video signal through the usb c port as well so it should work. Tab s6 lite is usb2.0 unfortunately and only carries power and data, no video.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 tablet and got it to work, but it took a while to figure out. I had the problem that the monitor would show 'no input' even when I switched back and forth the input source. Here's my setup that worked for me: a) I used a multiport hub just like in the video with an HDMI cable plugged into the hub and into the monitor b) *I connected an external power cable to the port* (it doesn't work otherwise, it disconnects the monitor when unplugged) c) I switched the order of connecting *important* 1. Connect everything to the hub, including HDMI and power 2. Only then connect to the tablet 3. I switched to Dex, but it might as well work with the standard tablet mode. Good luck!
I have a Samsung 9 Ultra Tablet and I can't get this to work either. Mind you, I am plugging in my monitor directly to the Tablet using HDMI (in the monitor) to USB-C cable. I'm not using a "hub" as she has used. Would this make a difference?
If I connect a Samsung s9 tablet to my Samsung 32 inch smart monitor will it fill in the full screen without having those black bars on the sides? Thanks
awseome. just 5etting into the tablet life...(so convenient) i was not aware of the hub will make life so mucg functional i have a S5E tablet thanks for the info
I have a Samsung tab 6 lite. What multi pot hubs thingy do I need 😂. I've watch this video many times.. and I can't seem to find the one you have.. Please help..smi😊
Hi there. I'm using the Tab S9. When i try to connect my tab into a external monitor using the travel hub (Lenovo USB-C 3-in-1 Travel Hub XL0807-H (Black) - HDMI/ VGA/ USB, Dual Display). It says 'high powered USB device connected. Cannot access to this device. Connected device needs external power supply'. As such, i;m unable to connect my tab to the external monitor. Kindly advise what kind of HDMI hub needed?
It seems that your hub supports USB-C power pass-through, so what you need to do is simply connect your USB-C power cable to the hub to power your tablet.
Can someone answer me please. I plugged my Galaxy Tab A9+ and it didnt display anything on the monitors but my Samsung S22 Ultra shared to my monitors as soon as i plugged it in. my problem is, my tablet doesnt work and i have dual monitors however they are both displaying the same thing on both screens. how do i separate this? i cant find the tab to separate both monitors. or is my hub the problem?
Im using a galaxt tab s5e but it can only mirror tablet view. When I use dex while on hdmi, it would show dex on hdmi but tablet view on tabler screen. The only way to control the dex on hdmi is by making my tablet screen the mouse of the dex on hdmi. I want whats on the video where I can open dex on my tablet and mirror it to hdmi while retaining dex on the tablet screen. How do I do that?
Bought an onn. USB-C to HDMI adapter. Doesn't work with my rca roku tv. It picks up that there's an HDMI and asks me to name it, but there's no signal. Another $19 wasted 😢
To be aware, this does not work on the cheaper Samsung tablets, such as the Tab A9, or Tab A9 Plus.. People normally assume USB-C means super-duper USB speeds, but alas, Samsung being Samsung only gave these USB 2.0... There is no huge cost difference, as its a native part of the chipset - this is all about them trying to convince customers this a "Premium" feature - its akin to the car being sold with a radio, but doesn't include speakers (even basic ones).
I haven't tested connecting a Lenovo tablet to a monitor, but if you try let me know how you go. Your Lenovo won't have Dex because that's only on Samsung devices. But you might be able to mirror your tablet to your monitor and then setup a keyboard and mouse..
Does anyone know what to do if you can not connect the galaxy tab s6 lite to a monitor and use dex, ive tried but doesnt work, ive tried with the same one or similar just like the one from the video
I have checked up on the HDMI adaptors and found that they are more for PCs. For Android and particularly Samsung tablets, most are not compatible. So be careful.
Hey, the USB-C on the Tab A series doesn't support HDMI. Neither does the FE and Lite versions of the S series tablets. I have an A8 and it doesn't work either. You would have to get either the S7 or a later model. If you really want a second screen with your tablet, you can check out SuperDisplay or apps just like that. Though the lag may be quite bad. Good luck!
Thank you for this video! Anyone know how to 'extend' the screens across the tab and monitor? Or just not have the tablet screen on.
Did you figure it out? I'm looking to do the same
Did you find the video ? Looking for same thing . Please let me know

With samsung tablet s6 lite it doesn't work. Tried with usb-c compatible monitor. Also tried a usb-c to hdmi (a similar one as seen on your video)
Darn it! I was trying with my s6 lite too and it doesn't work! Grrrr! Why not?!!!
Ohh, im trying with mine too, any updates?

Hello My model is Samsung S9 FE (SM-X510) & also i purchased Hub with HDMI, but i could not able to make screen mirroring
Same with my s6 lite 2022
A bit of Google and u know both of them wont be able to output video via usb c
you can screen mirror your phone on your laptop
usb c of FE doesn't have display support against S9.
Same problem
Thank you for this tuition.

I did this for my son. Is Samsung phone is his laptop / desktop for everything he does, even in school.
will this work on a samsung tab A7 lite? I tried on a hube but will nort show tablt screen on my monitor thru HDMI? I am going to try another hub.
I think it's only S series Samsung's. Doesn't work on my tab a8.
