1978 Dodge Sportsman Camper with Transmission Issues - Will it Run & Drive Home??

- We teamed up with Brad from @Overkill_Brad to bring home another camper. The RV shop said it needed a transmission and was a cheap buy. Are we crazy for trying to get it to run and drive home or did we just score? Watch the adventure unfold!

The Dodge Sportsman Camper is really a vintage object and she doesn’t look too bad. When she’ll technical returns into a fine running camper with no technical issues than with us people would have pimped such a camper with everything repainted inside, with new wall coverings, new mattresses etc so the inside will look updated. Our youngest son did this with a caravan of 1993 and it looks amazingly now but the outside still is in the original colors. When our son is arriving in a camping site all others are looking a bit weird till they get invited to see the interior. My son always say to these people: “it’s just like with humans, the outside is less important than the inside”😀.

This one is another one that came from out west. All of the ones that come from that way seem to be in really good shape. Most of the ones we see on marketplace here have been used for hunting cabins or are just really beat up. That's really neat! 🙂

Yes, the previous owner took really good care of this camper. Most of the ones we have came across have been in fairly bad shape.

The camper is cool I have one of them. That's actually why I'm here. Except, my attention was quickly diverted to the fact that the white Chevy dually, has a freaking manual transmission in it. WOW, I'm here from Cali and in these parts those species of classic Chevy truck don't exist. Is that thing a 4x4?😮
That's really cool! We've had a few camper videos over the years. We went out and helped our friend (Brad) who bought one out in Cali and ended up breaking down in New Mexico. That entire trip was an adventure. I believe his truck (Brad) is a 2WD.

I thought it was disconnected so I started the engine and now it will not do anything
I’ve been told there is a device and I’ve been told no, they did not put one in them. I found 5 fuses under the dash- all good ok
I found 3 at the Converter - all good
What is my next move to get me running? What was damaged ? Expensive?

I’m confused on which person your referring to. Theres myself (Brittany) , Daniel and Brad. Daniel and I are married and Brad is one of our good friends. We’ve been on all sorts of road trips together. 😀
