@@corpchannel2523 There was a description of this fight in : "Arthas : Rise of The Lich King" . Ilidan was one of the most powerful beings on Azeroth. One of the most talented sorcerer of his time (War of the Ancient). Fell (which Ilidan is using) is one of the most devastating force in Warcraft Universe. I guess Ilidan is more powerful in magic than Arthas. Lich King is maybe stronger (because he draws his energy straight from Shadowlands and has a big connection to it) Ilidan had a chance to kill Arthas. He was stronger (first blow send Arthas on his knee and Ilidan start insult him). He was too confident and it was a reason why he lost this fight. Arthas deafet him because he stay focused .
Demon hunter 10 lvl pwns DK in WarCraft 3 1v1 easily :) You may put Illidan 10 lvl vs Arthas 10 lvl with map editor. Arthas has no chance in any case. With magic or without. With any artifacts.
I guess he miscalculated his powers but wanted to do what you say, so he flew back because it needs a second to transform. That was the moment for Arthas to make the fatal blow. Miscalculation can happen to the very best BUT let''s not forget that at that time WoW and all the Addons didn't exist. In WC 3 + FT they were always equal strong. They had a fight before this (in the campaign mission where you find the Skullhead of Gul'dan with Illidan) and after they fight and decide it's a draw, Arthas tricked his hunger for power and told him about the skull. So much Characters were brought back in WoW who you thought were dead in WC 3 FT and some characters were made much more powerful then they should have been back in the day. But to keep WoW intact they bring back everyone they like for new stories. For me personal they were always equal! That was the very reason for this "final" story fight. The Campaign about these two were made to meet before the top of the Frozen Throne in a equal fight. Oh i see the text is a bit long, hope someone will still read it ^^
I always wondered why they went with this particular animation style instead of the same as previous cinematic cutscenes. It doesn't look nearly as good as the others.
This was rendered in game! As in at any point (if you had mouse control) you could walk a peon in the middle of their epic battle. It wasn't a budget problem or anything like that, because a cinematic followed directly after. I think they did it because they could. They wanted to show off how their engine would render a complex fight scene like this with scripted unit anims.
ChaosCollection no this isn't footage of actual gameplay, but it IS rendered within the game using map scripting and custom animations and effects. Using the WCIII World Editor you can find these two custom model files and watch their animations. You could possibly recreate this movie except IDK how they set up the sky.
Maybe this fight was a bit too short and the models weren't great but the music helped a lot and I liked how it felt like one mistake would end the fight. The way Arthas threw everything into his strikes was awesome, in the remaster he seems slow and like he was too weak to really swing Frostmourne. Having him win the fight decisively is fine, after all this was Arthas at the peak of his power before becoming the Lich King.
Somehow this still looks better than the new version. The music, the cinematography, just everything man. How are you keep fucking up so hard Blizzard?
universe slow but the animation are way more better and the fight sequence makes way more sense. People expecting a full cinematic are stupid cause it was never a full cinematic to begin with.
Daniel Thorne It would not be possible because arthas had no way to make death knights from Night elves at the time. The Lich Kings first generation were currupted paladins. Not to mention Illidan is part demon, which makes it entirely impossible.
I agree. I tried playing WoW for some nostalgic value ( i played when I was a kid back in the days of vanilla before the stereotypes of the players) and its just not the same anymore :(
Illidan went easy, he knew the throne was a trap, that's why he wanted to destroy it, he just thought it was funny that Arthas actually wanted it, so he let him have it lol
If i'm not mistaken Arthas was supposed to be weakened during this scene also and still took it to Illidan, man Illidan is one of those guys who always get their ass kicked by everyone.
He wasn't weakened Ner'zhul was giving Arthas every ounce of power he had to left to make sure he could get to the helm of domination as he knew Illidan would KILL Arthas and destroy the helm without Ner'zhuls remaining power.
Wtf happened to immolation, evasion and Metamorphasis? Not to mention Illidan could have just blocked Arthas' attack with his twin blades. Wtf Blizzard?
Blizzard could have made this fight good instead of having Arthas win so easily. At least have Illidan lose in a believable way instead of him just letting Arthas slice him and getting downed in one hit.
Doctor Pepper Limitations of the ingame cutscene. What htey were planning for the cinematic fight would have involved demonic and deathknight powers (and revealed illidan to have survived) but they simply ran out of time to make the video.
Yeah I know about that, but they still did a shitty job with this cutscene. Also, Illidan has the Twin Blades of Azzinoth and they're badass. How did having Fostmourne make Arthas that much more powerful than Illidan?
***** He's really not. Illidan is powerful, but he's not as powerful as you're making him out to be. Maiev, after all, was strong enough to subdue and cage Illidan.
***** Dear God, discussing this with you is pointless as you only hear what you want to hear. Illidan may have been as strong as you make him out to be in the past, but then he spent 15,000 years locked up in isolation. He lost his duel with Arthas and proceeded to wimp out and spend the next 8 years brooding in Outland.
I personally in the end of Wc3TFT wished for Illidan to finally kill Arthas as the Lich King to fulfill his prophecy he gained through his eyes of a great future in a Warcraft 4. The banned betrayer finally bringing peace to the world. That's what I wouldn't begrudge him of. But Illidan had to pay in one way, because as opposed to Arthas Menethil, he wasn't influenced by a great device of power, but only through words and promises and he always made his own decisions to do what he did just for the sake of power and magic. Therefore his end was far more cruel to himself than it was to Arthas, because he came back to his minds in the end and Illidan did not. I so wish for a Warcraft 4. Stop this Madness named World of Warcraft :\
It's 2018 and they announced a Warcraft 3 Reforged at Blizzcon. I will just ask one thing... Please developers, give Arthas and Illidan the Cinematic they couldn't have back in the day. You all do that and my money is ours, because my passion and cheer you already have. Good luck making the game.
Anyone else notice that in reign of chaos, Illidan and Arthas fight and are evenly matched. Then Illidan consumes the skull of Guldan, and Arthas grows weaker due to the fracture in the frozen throne, then they fight again, but Arthas wins?
+Adam Ryan Yes, but Arthas didn't want to beat Illidan the first time around. He just wanted to goad him into opposing the Legion. He just toyed with Illidan.
A hunting dog was chasing a rabbit. After an intense chase that lasted a while, eventually the rabbit escaped into a hole the dog can't follow. On his way home, still disappointed for his loss, he was mocked by a mongoose. "What good are you? A hunting dog who fails to hunt his rabbit?" The dog retorted "You fail to consider one thing: I was running for my lunch. But the rabbit was running for his life." --- Despite Illidan's greater powers, Arthas - the Lich King's power level was still on a level that could still give Illidan a good fight, with a chance to win. But on the motivation: To Illidan, beating Arthas and destroying the Frozen Throne is a profitable venture. But to Arthas / Lich King, stopping Illidan is matter of survival, a win or die situation. Arthas / Lich King at that time just happened to have more "fight" in them, and in the end that decided the contest.
When you are fighting the very skilled champion of a being that can control millions of undead across the planet, which you have backed into a corner. And said god like entity is focusing that will and power all on said champion, shit is going to happen if you don't stay on your toes.
+Samy Lee He didn't used it because Illidan think it will not be a fair fight. Reserve it for when Arthras become the lich King but Illidan's already failed.
This video was made in 2006, i was born in 2006 lol. Actually the video is even older than i am, i was born in June 6/6/2006 while this video was made in January 10/2006.
Thing works like this, Demon Hunter body is a husk that covers their souls if they die during a battle, the soul will go to the Twisting Nether were their true form is, he can return as many times as he wants, if is physical form is in good condition any way. If not he will have to be summoned like any regular demon.
learn the lore dumbass illidan is immortal he can't truly die he consumed too much demonic power to the point he got some of their traits like his spirit goes to the twisted nether
This fight is used as merely symbolic because Ner'zhul's power within Frostmourne is far more powerfull that Illidan's , granted by Ner'zhul's apprentice Gul'dan (skull).
It was explained that at this time Arthas was at the peak of his power before becoming the LK, he had both his self gained experience and skill as a skilled healer necromancer death knight along with all the power Ner'zhul could grant him. Illidan was massively before his prime there. He didn't have his full fel powers yet, and Arthas was amped by The Frozen Throne and Frostmourne in that fight. If Illidan and Arthas fought at their primes, Illidan would absolutely obliterate Arthas in any way.
WHAT???? THERE IS A MOVIE???? tell... Me.... EVERYTHING!!! P.S. Before you call be a troll or something, i am new to this, i really wanted to play the game since it came out though i wasnt able to (couldnt afford) and i only started to play it three weeks ago, so, hope you understand... And Illidan is my favorite ''bad guy'' so i just wanted to know....
Amazing, this old semi-cinematic fight between Illidan and Arthas... Awesome story of a Warcraft rts can give to many people.. Most likely, people who do not know the Warcraft lore would probably thought that the blind demon looking guy is the bad guy, and that the human with white hair is the good guy... But obviously, everyone who knows the true Warcraft story, should know that it is actually the other way around, or should we say it is the vice versa of what most people who dont know Warcraft may think about this awesome battle...
I'm hoping that they don't change the fight scene, just the graphics and make it hd, etc. but they did change everything like he holds his sword like a fckng 5 yrs old.
Graphics are worse then in Reforged, but the animations, the tempo of it all, the sound effects are way better. Shame what's happening to Blizz now. One of my favourite studios ever is falling apart before my very eyes :(

It won't break to frostmourne and could clash against it time and time again, but would not survive a critical blow from frostmourne... It was carelessness...
And budget.

Hey who will win with magic you mean illidan or arthas you said that
@@corpchannel2523 There was a description of this fight in : "Arthas : Rise of The Lich King" .
He should have teamed up with Jorah Mormont. The power of friendzone would have been overwhelmed Arthas.
XD, sad that noone upvotes this.
LOL best comment I have seen in awhile
One thing I don't understand, why didn't illidan use demon form?
I guess he miscalculated his powers but wanted to do what you say, so he flew back because it needs a second to transform. That was the moment for Arthas to make the fatal blow. Miscalculation can happen to the very best
BUT let''s not forget that at that time WoW and all the Addons didn't exist.
Oh i see the text is a bit long, hope someone will still read it ^^
This was made 18 years ago, posted 15 years ago and still looks incredible
I always wondered why they went with this particular animation style instead of the same as previous cinematic cutscenes.
It doesn't look nearly as good as the others.
Budget probably
This was rendered in game! As in at any point (if you had mouse control) you could walk a peon in the middle of their epic battle.
It wasn't a budget problem or anything like that, because a cinematic followed directly after. I think they did it because they could. They wanted to show off how their engine would render a complex fight scene like this with scripted unit anims.
J Del
No this is not actual in game footage
ChaosCollection no this isn't footage of actual gameplay, but it IS rendered within the game using map scripting and custom animations and effects.
Using the WCIII World Editor you can find these two custom model files and watch their animations. You could possibly recreate this movie except IDK how they set up the sky.
Fancy C.G.cutscenes are expensive.
If it was remade into a cinematic it would look a thousand times better.
Its already fucking better in my opion
ruclips.net/video/OC9RZTD2MaI/видео.html you're welcome
guess what, it's bad.
This comment didn't age well,no,not well at all, sry,i'll just drop the like cause it is 6, years old
not today buddy
Its weird wen you start thinking if Ilidan had actually won this battle.
Everyone on would have died by now
Longest fight ever
If only people criticizing this seventeen years ago knew what lies in store for them in the future.
"It's over, Arthas! I have the high ground!"
That last slash of frostmourne really looks like it's coming in towards Illidan's crotch. Low blow man, low blow.
Unlike every warcraft cinematics, this one is on warcraft 3 engine which is actually very cool.
what is that fking jump illidan.....
It's the double jump, we get to use it in Legion
Somehow this still looks better than the new version. The music, the cinematography, just everything man. How are you keep fucking up so hard Blizzard?
The one time the villain doesn't finish off his enemy and it doesn't bite him in the ass later on
I gotta say after watching the reforged version of this cutscene this one is mostly better
Please explain how?
@@renebaan7430 bruh the reforged version is slow
universe slow but the animation are way more better and the fight sequence makes way more sense. People expecting a full cinematic are stupid cause it was never a full cinematic to begin with.
It feels like a fanmade video lol
@@stevenuniverse9613 I can understand that point of view, but to say the old one is better is just a lie tbh.
This ones more dramatic and tense. Like a final anime battle.
FOR THE LICH KING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
momo xmomox ye he is the GOD of cringe
I guess he wasent *takes off shades* prepared.
Apparently being cut open in the snow drove Illidan crazy.
"That wasn't easy to get over. But don't think I didn't try!"
Imagine if Arthas killed illidan and converted him into a Death Knight loool
that will become him a bullshit
Daniel Thorne Illidan would have to die for that to happen, and since they're still on Azeroth...
Daniel Thorne no chance, only the lich king can make death knights.
Daniel Thorne It would not be possible because arthas had no way to make death knights from Night elves at the time. The Lich Kings first generation were currupted paladins. Not to mention Illidan is part demon, which makes it entirely impossible.
tenjek nope, the first death knights were orcs made from Gul'dan and Ner'zhul
Oh Warcraft, how I miss you and how I lament. What have you become?
I agree. I tried playing WoW for some nostalgic value ( i played when I was a kid back in the days of vanilla before the stereotypes of the players) and its just not the same anymore :(
There is a CGI scene right after this.
Illidan went easy, he knew the throne was a trap, that's why he wanted to destroy it, he just thought it was funny that Arthas actually wanted it, so he let him have it lol
+GermanyFan01 keep living in your fantasy world, lol =P
GermanyFan01 yeah just accept the the fact that arthas is better
If i'm not mistaken Arthas was supposed to be weakened during this scene also and still took it to Illidan, man Illidan is one of those guys who always get their ass kicked by everyone.
He wasn't weakened Ner'zhul was giving Arthas every ounce of power he had to left to make sure he could get to the helm of domination as he knew Illidan would KILL Arthas and destroy the helm without Ner'zhuls remaining power.
No Arthas was weakened when Ner'zhul gave his power he just restored Arthas' power.
@@jack07tr68 no the book states that arthas was at his absolute peak at this point
WC3 -2020. Rest in peace my old friend ;(
imagine this scene if arthas was a tauren and illidan was a gnome
I like how quick it is. Doesn’t go on until you stop caring like other epic fights
Blizzard should really remake this cutscene
no
sometimes we should be more careful with what we wish for. Because it could actually come true.
@@IschmarVI 9 years worth the wait
Reason why Illidan didn't say he wasn't prepared was because he saw Frostmourne.
Wtf happened to immolation, evasion and Metamorphasis? Not to mention Illidan could have just blocked Arthas' attack with his twin blades. Wtf Blizzard?
You realise that Arthas had to win the fight for story reasons?
Blizzard could have made this fight good instead of having Arthas win so easily. At least have Illidan lose in a believable way instead of him just letting Arthas slice him and getting downed in one hit.
Doctor Pepper Limitations of the ingame cutscene. What htey were planning for the cinematic fight would have involved demonic and deathknight powers (and revealed illidan to have survived) but they simply ran out of time to make the video.
Yeah I know about that, but they still did a shitty job with this cutscene.
Also, Illidan has the Twin Blades of Azzinoth and they're badass. How did having Fostmourne make Arthas that much more powerful than Illidan?
jajaja nice coment
Mister "I Am My Scars" is missing the scar he should have gotten from this encounter.
Given that Arthas hadn't donned the Helm yet, I wonder how large the gap of power would've been between Illidan and Arthas as the Lich King.
L3ndzo83 You haven't play Frozen Throne recently, have ya? Basically right before this, the Lich King gave Arthas a massive infusion of power.
***** Arthas isn't without magic either..
***** He's really not. Illidan is powerful, but he's not as powerful as you're making him out to be. Maiev, after all, was strong enough to subdue and cage Illidan.
***** Then way did he need two damn armies? And Arthas wasn't a simple death knight, he was the Lich King's chosen champion.
Virgin Ilidan vs Chad Arthas
Who's here after Reforge?
This looks like it was funded off a 7th grader's pocket money savings.
But even so, it still slaps hard.
Illidan went full Vegeta here.
Stop this Madness named World of Warcraft :\
illidan is cool but arthus is way cooler and should always win every fight :p
well, if you think in that way, that was the end of azeroth with the scourge without of control
DH and DK fought each other before it was wow
It's 2018 and they announced a Warcraft 3 Reforged at Blizzcon.
I will just ask one thing...
Please developers, give Arthas and Illidan the Cinematic they couldn't have back in the day.
You all do that and my money is ours, because my passion and cheer you already have.
Good luck making the game.
Illidan, you were not prepared for the might of Frostmourne.
cmon FM is nothing compared to TBOA
Froustmourne hungers.
Anyone else notice that in reign of chaos, Illidan and Arthas fight and are evenly matched. Then Illidan consumes the skull of Guldan, and Arthas grows weaker due to the fracture in the frozen throne, then they fight again, but Arthas wins?
+Adam Ryan
True with Illidan, but Lich King gave him as much power as he could in order to destroy Illidan. There is even a dialogue for that.
A hunting dog who fails to hunt his rabbit?"
The dog retorted "You fail to consider one thing: I was running for my lunch. But the rabbit was running for his life."
---
Despite Illidan's greater powers, Arthas - the Lich King's power level was still on a level that could still give Illidan a good fight, with a chance to win.
But on the motivation:
To Illidan, beating Arthas and destroying the Frozen Throne is a profitable venture.
But to Arthas / Lich King, stopping Illidan is matter of survival, a win or die situation.
Arthas / Lich King at that time just happened to have more "fight" in them, and in the end that decided the contest.
+Gendo ruwo i like it
+Gendo ruwo damn... I can't believe I found a guy on the internet with deep logic. well done my friend.
Then the player presses the revive button for Illidan at an Altar, lol
Came back so many years later, who else is HYPED too see this remade in HD??
Who ?
Pain
now imagine a modern-day cinematic of this fight...
Tickets will be sold out in no time.
Imagine that same cinematic but a complete butchery with stiff animation.
Welcome to Reforged, enjoy your stay.
When you are fighting the very skilled champion of a being that can control millions of undead across the planet, which you have backed into a corner. And said god like entity is focusing that will and power all on said champion, shit is going to happen if you don't stay on your toes.
Just thinking that this cinematic would be remastered in a matter of time makes me jizz in my pants
oh man blizz cinematics department has come so far. by far best cinematics out of any gaming franchize ever
Where is your demon form Illidan ?
+Samy Lee He didn't used it because Illidan think it will not be a fair fight. Reserve it for when Arthras become the lich King but Illidan's already failed.
+Ruatzhmars Ruatz Was in cooldown.
+Sumona Florence love u muah

Samy Lee he would lose again if he had used it
Who's here after watching the reforged version?
This video was made in 2006, i was born in 2006 lol.
Actually the video is even older than i am, i was born in June 6/6/2006 while this video was made in January 10/2006.
actually the cinematic itself is from july 2003, from warcraft 3: the frozen throne
i was born in march 23/03/2006
Thanks for publishing this cool cinematic!
illidan died 2 times like wtf and he is still alive GREAT LOGIC BLIZZ
Ilidian can't die rofl, just banished to the netherworld........he become a demon
+szebasztian polyakovity Half demon also any demon hunter strong enough cant die their sould goes to the twisting nether
Thing works like this, Demon Hunter body is a husk that covers their souls if they die during a battle, the soul will go to the Twisting Nether were their true form is, he can return as many times as he wants, if is physical form is in good condition any way. If not he will have to be summoned like any regular demon.
illdan dead its a lore, illidan no demon
learn the lore dumbass
illidan is immortal
he can't truly die
he consumed too much demonic power to the point he got some of their traits like his spirit goes to the twisted nether
man Illidan.........you had ONE fuckin job. dammit lol
well when i played this mission Illidan popped his demon form every time we fought over the obelisks so no. He just have it on cd. Bad timing.
finalboss lmao, true
So much better than the reforged version
14 лет позади... Ровно 14 лет назад началась новая эпоха
ARTHAS is now the NIGHT KING in Game of Thrones ❄️⚔️
Illidan didnt even use his warglaives here.. did he not have his powers?
Yes, this is long after Sargeras gave him the gift of arcane sight and also long after the Skull of Gul'Dan
He has his warglaives, but this is before they were instilled with the demonic power (green glow we see)
This fight is used as merely symbolic because Ner'zhul's power within Frostmourne is far more powerfull that Illidan's , granted by Ner'zhul's apprentice Gul'dan (skull).
It was explained that at this time Arthas was at the peak of his power before becoming the LK, he had both his self gained experience and skill as a skilled healer necromancer death knight along with all the power Ner'zhul could grant him. Even with all this, it would be difficult still to face one of the strongest beings in existence of WC lore... During this fight neither of them used magic and preferred pure physical combat, thou we all know who would win in magic. Even then, Illidan is no pushover at anything, he merely grew careless in timing and measuring his jump, then received a critical counter attack.
In weapon power, DO NOT underestimate Illidan's weapon, (The twinblades of azzinoth) it's at least half as strong as frostmourne and got enchanted later on in WoW. It won't break to frostmourne and could clash against it time and time again, but would not survive a critical blow from frostmourne... It was carelessness...
And budget.
Please take not of this all commenters
Illidan was massively before his prime there. He didn't have his full fel powers yet, and Arthas was amped by The Frozen Throne and Frostmourne in that fight. If Illidan and Arthas fought at their primes, Illidan would absolutely obliterate Arthas in any way.
blizzard let you have those shitty warglaives, but not frostmourne baby, never frostmourne!
Other classes wouldnt want we death knights run around steal souls of everythink in WoW :)
Navhkrin that would be so op. imagine you duel a DK with Frostmourne and once he kills you, you never see that character on your account again xD
Dat fight is more intense then the reforged one, and Arthas feels more crazy

did the sword of Arthas FLY ?!?!
Im here after see the new "Arthas vs Illidan" by W3 reforged. The music here is so epic.
imagine when you watch this in the upcoming WoW movie
They are making a movie for 2016
soren5801 what it will be called? just asking, cuz im definitely going...
I dont know the title yet but there are posters from past Blizz events just check it
soren5801 ok thanks :)
Illidan isn't the good guy. They are both bad.
Ovidiu Diumea YES, Illidan is INDEED a GOOD GUY... In fact, Illidan was NEVER BEEN REALLY EVIL until WoW fucked up his lore..
I'm hoping that they don't change the fight scene, just the graphics and make it hd, etc. but they did change everything like he holds his sword like a fckng 5 yrs old.
He should have claimed his soul.
"You're a pitious creature Illidan, you don't even deserve an honourable death."
Graphics are worse then in Reforged, but the animations, the tempo of it all, the sound effects are way better. Shame what's happening to Blizz now. One of my favourite studios ever is falling apart before my very eyes :(
Yep, this is the right scale Frostmourne, not an anime monster hunter blade, it's a fucking usable sword.
