    I’d love to see the difference of a normal say 20mm f1.8 lens using black bars in post vs this lens.

    • @PhillipSkraba
      @PhillipSkraba  Год назад +1

      The difference would be huge, I don't own a 20mm f1.8, but it would be very visible. The Sirui lens above all has serious anamorphic pinch cushion distortion, which you just don't get on spherical lenses, it's quite a beautiful characteristic. It would be a fun experiment, I'll keep an eye out for a used 20mm 🔥

    Mine is coming! It says it's supposed to be here by Feb 6th. I hope it comes early. I like that its smaller than Sirui's other offerings and doesn't change squeeze ratios from depending on your focus point. I almost have the same set up as you except I did the Tilta cage, and the Title nano-m with the Tilta focus side handle that's fully adjustable. It's a great way to focus with still being able to hold the camera steady.

    Great job on the review, some of the best footage I've seen on RUclips for this lens.

    Thank you for your wonderful review. I can't agree with you more about this lens. I brought RF zooms during my 2 months vacation recently but used this lens exclusively (99%) in Venice and Seoul because of the look. This lens literally replaced my RF zooms. Manual peaking of R5C made it easy to focus. I wish Sirui can produce more Saturn anamorphics this year. I have a few 8K 'testing' snap shots with this lens/R5C/RS2 on my channel outputted to SD (thus poor resolution) without much attention paid to colour grading.

      I trust your opinion since I bought my Mini 2 and ZV-E1 following your channel.
      Just curious, have you tried Clear Image Zoom with the Sirui? I wonder how this would affect the image.

  • @clydedigital
    @clydedigital Год назад +1

    Why would you buy this instead of just cropping to the same aspect ratio?

    • @PhillipSkraba
      @PhillipSkraba  Год назад +1

      Yes, I definitely would. I like that the footage is softer, but still sharp unlike photography lenses which are razor sharp and quite clinical. If I were to use a spherical lens, I'd need a much wide focal length to achieve the same vertical height if I cropped, which would also lead to more distortion and generally a less pleasing image, the 35mm gives me the perfect focal length, and the 22m stretch is great for fitting more in the frame. Anamorphic's also have a wonderful characteristic, which is pincushion distortion, a trait among some of the finest anamorphic lenses such as Cooke - a $30k cinema lens, and very, very similar in this Sirui Saturn lens. Overall, it's a lens you stick on your camera and you feel excited about filming, as you're actually filming with a cinema lens, not a photo lens.

      @@PhillipSkraba I get that, Phil, I think the best thing about it would be the feel and vibe. And that sort of thing matters a lot. A lot of people put emphasis on the fabled “cinematic” look and this is definitely for them… I’m more about “story” myself but with this I think both form and substance would be possible and easier. Great video from you here… love your content.

    • @PhillipSkraba
      @PhillipSkraba  Год назад

      Yes, I totally agree. The word cinematic is thrown around RUclips way too often without any reason behind it. People think smooth is cinematic, which just isn’t the case. “Cinematic” in my opinion is being visually consequential to the script, so if it requires smoothness fine, but if it requires for you to run with the camera strapped to your feet, that’s the way to go. This lens is no doubt a great building block for creating that story and used correctly it can really help achieve a “cinematic” look for a very affordable price 🔥
