It’s not uncommon for squirrels to wander onto your property in search of food, water, and shelter. Having squirrels can cause damage to your property or even health issues. In this video, we’ll go over how to identify squirrels, how to trap them using professional live traps, and ways to prevent them from coming back.
Squirrels can sometimes be mistaken for other rodents, but can easily be identified by their bushy tails. If you suspect you may be dealing with squirrels, look for common signs that indicate squirrel activity.
Bird feeders and gardens are likely hot spots for squirrels, as their diet consists of nuts, seeds, and fruits. You can also examine nearby trees for any nests among the branches or carved into the tree itself.
If you suspect squirrels may be indoors, listen for thumping sounds during the day and check for any open voids.
Squirrels are attracted mainly to nuts, so using mixed nuts as bait is an effective bait option.
In order to maximize our chances of catching the squirrel, we need to remove food sources that may compete with our bait. This includes picking up pet food after dark, fencing away fruit gardens, and sweeping up fallen fruits, berries, and seeds.
Place your live trap far away from human or pet activity, along the edge of your property. Physical boundaries like fence lines, dense foliage, and garden edging make great placement guides, so set your trap along such structures. It’s important to make sure you place your trap in the shade, as a trapped animal can die within a few hours if left to overexposure from the sun.
Once you are satisfied with your trap placement, you can bait and arm it. Check your trap twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Do not keep an animal trapped for more than 24 hours.
Be sure to contact local authorities like animal control to confirm laws in your area about animal trapping and make sure you are correctly relocating the animal. Travel to your release location, place the trap on the ground facing away from you, and open the trap.
Maintaining a clean area indoors and outdoors is an important step to take in preventing future squirrel encounters. Remove any clutter or debris from your property, as this could be used by animals for nests or burrows. Regularly check the property for spots that retain water. Any potential food sources such as fruits and grains should be properly sealed in a container and stored away.
Prevent squirrels from entering your property by sealing any openings you may have found along the perimeter or foundation.
Be sure to visit our website for an in-depth guide and access to each of our products. We guarantee that these live traps and tips will help catch squirrels around your property, and we offer same day shipping to help you get control quickly.
Solutions is a small family owned business, and we rely on referrals from customers like you. So if you liked this how-to guide and when the products work for you, please share and tell your friends and family about us.

They are smart critters. They will reach through that trap you show and get the bait. Be prepared to catch the neighbors cat, a possum and other animals. Wrap that trap with a black plastic bag or something so it has to go in the door to get the bait.

Exactly, I posted exactly the same. The poster doesn't realize that squirrels are smart. You are most likely to catch other animals with this, while the squirrel laughs in the corner.

when bait dissapears you might THINK that is what happened but much more likely mice took the bait without being heavy enough to spring the trap and even when they do they slip right through the wire

    • @RaggedyHobo

@@dougiequick1Yeah they really do reach in if they have that option. It’s not just something someone thinks. I set up a camera to see why my trap was getting sprung but not catching anything and that is exactly what they were doing. Once I blocked the sides. I caught three squirrels in three days. So I dunno. Maybe you just Think it’s mice. I KNOW what was happening with my trap.

They are smarter than my dog. Have not found a bait yet to lure them in to the trap either. They destroy my melons and maters. Plant seeds they dig em up! One looked directly at me through the glass door as it tossed the dirt out of a planter box I had just refilled with dirt from them throwing it out, then just ran off. I think I heard it laughing! Had a prized large cherry tomato I was going to get the seeds from. They heard me say one night I'll get it tomorrow when I get home from work after it's a little more red and ripe... It was gone the next morning b4 I left for work! I think I heard them all laughing from the trees. The really funny thing is... one of those squirrels planted that plant themselves and guessing they think they had the right to it! Told my wife I'll just wait for the one beside it to ripen as is almost as big, they took THAT ONE the next morning AND IT WAS STILL GREEN!! They ain't so cute no mo! Was wanting to keep them around for SHTF, but...

You can only catch large numbers of grey squirrels during specific times of the year.
They prefer acorns to peanuts or peanut butter, so if there is an oak tree anywhere nearby,
you probably wont catch many grey squirrels in the fall when acorns are plentiful.
They have an insatiable appetite for acorns and will ignore peanuts when acorns are available.
I've tried vacuuming my yard of acorns but that is a waste of time because many more
fresh acorns will fall within 24 hours
In the winter, they are not active in northern climates and leaving your trap set outside
is usually a waste of time and energy, unless it is an unusually warm day.
I have my squirrel traps in very close proximity to my bird feeders
and that is probably why they are lulled into a false sense of security.
They probably think with all the birds chowing down relentlessly,
they have discovered the best free banquet in the neighborhood.
In the last 6 years I have disposed of over 470 grey squirrels but
I get most of them in the early AM in the spring and summer.
If you are a late sleeper leave the trap outside over night and
hope nothing steals the bait during the night.
If you rise early, put the trap out at sunrise.
Once it gets too hot outside they retire for the day.
I seldom catch any grey squirrels after high noon.
if you ever buy another squirrel trap, go with the Havahart model # 1083
EZ-set trap. That is the best trap for grey squirrels by a wide margin.
But you have to buy it online. Lowes and Home Depot do not stock that trap
    for some crazy reason.

The traps that you are showing are not great for squirrels at all. Squirrels are very light on their feet. They will go in and eat the bait and leave! Just so you know, this has been done by me many times I catch everything but the squirrels

just a PSA...if you have red squirrels YOU NEED TO LEAVE THEM ALONE. They are native and are being run out by the big eastern greys. I do not know why this company is using pics of these guys in their ad to remove squirrels! Also, do not release wild animals (especially invasive ones) unless you are an actual expert in wildlife rehab. Otherwise you are doing huge damage to your native ecosystem. I seriously had 1 friend take 1 batch of bullfrog tadpoles home, released them, and ended up wiping out all of a couple towns ecosytems of their native rodents, and reptiles, because bullfrogs fucking suck. Dont assume any animal wont have this capability...

    • @Caroline1261
      @Caroline1261 2 года назад

That's what I was wondering myself. The big grey ones are invasive and not native. The smaller red/brown ones are. Also, it's crazy now because I have 14 grey squirrels in my backyard and they are damaging my house and my trees (to make nests etc...) If I catch them, where can I release them? I'm not sure I would be able to drown them and can't use a gun in our neighbourhood.

    I trapped my first 🐿️ on 11/16/2022.
I was in for a wholesome treat. No you silly rabbit. I eat clean meats. I fed my new pet dehydrated jalepeno mixed with chilli peppers and cayenne pepper flakes. My goodness! He hates me after I was so kind. He must doesn't care for the hot & spicy snacks. It's been nearly a week and I gave him drank after 48 hours of trapping. I decided to see if he likes coca cola. I don't drink it. He doesn't move with vigor as in his first 3 days of new ownership. I guess all good things must come to an end. Thanks Faicuk and Amazon for selling me a home for my new pet 🐿️. Well folks! It's time for "Lil Rockie" face and body splash bath with all natural ingredients of white cider vinegar, peppermint oil, garlic oil juice in nice mixture in my spray bottle. 🖕🏽🖕🏽 Payback's a muthafuckah!
