Another fantastic, super-helpful video from the best audio guys on RUclips! Since I am at heart a vintage tube guy, I especially enjoyed this presentation. I'm considering pairing my vintage MFA tube mono amps with a newer preamp with balance and tone controls. It looks as if a Mac pre is in my future. Thanks to the three of you.

You're pretty much spot on. The C70/C22 is pretty much just a C2700 without a DAC and it's around $2000 less.

Lots of great information about various models. You see a lot of really old units for sale but not so much the newer units. The pieces from the 70’s and 80’s can be had for entry-level prices sometimes (gotta watch out for the gougers) , but it’s good to know which units to look for.

Very nice review. I have a C2200 and have been considering upgrading to a C2700. Now, I may lean more to the C70, but I'd love to hear about the C1100 and perhaps even a comparison to the C70. By the way, the C2200 does have the triggers, etc. I have mine hooked up to the MPC1500.
One question: Does the C70 have a L-R balance control?
    Thanks!

Very much enjoying the great videos. I can’t imagine lugging around 150 pound mono blocks. I bought the MC312 Amplifier this year and my forearms hurt for 2 days after I got it in place. What preamp would you match with that amplifier by the way? My speakers are the JBL L-100 classics.

The Macintosh C2700 has some issues with it’s HDMI port at the rear of the Amp. It’s faulty. Sometimes there is signal from the TV, and at times completely no sound. It has happened to many who purchased this contraption. Otherwise musically it’s great.

How about a "shootout" between the C70, C2700 and C1100?
Full disclosure: I own the MC462 to strap to the Sonus Faber Amati Tradition speakers. What is the best pre-amp match with the MC462 (hate to be so selfish)? Is the C1100 "overkill" for the MC462, or does the MC462 utilize the full performance that the C1100 throws at it?
Another way to put this: Is the C1100 best leveraged with mono-blocks like the MC901s (meaning that the C2700 or C70 is a wise purchase if you have the MC462)?
That kind of comparison is what would be interesting. Bless you all!

It's the same sound, newer is just more clean, highlighting the individual details more. They do that with most of the newer products. I prefer the older ones they are a tiny bit more warm and sweet giving it a tiny bit more character. But yeah basically same sound.

I haven’t heard any of the modern high end Mac amps but do have a McIntosh mha200 headphone amp and while it’s clear and clean it’s a little boring compared to the headphone out of my 1980s c34v preamp and 1970s mc2505 amp. They just have way more body and move you more.

The MC 275 commemorative 50 years edition is not a copy of the the original genuine 275 , but a modified amp with different circuit , different tubes ( current production tubes ! ) ..........one should not compare apples with pears .
