    I just have to add.... Why have a comment section when none of the questions are answered?
    If you want people to like and subscribe you definitely have to get involved with the comments.

    Peter Lyngdorfs Room Perfect - once you try it, you will never live without. Even the smallest of his amps - the TDAI 1120 has the roomcorrection build in. In addition, electronic crossover (fully adjustable HP and LP filters with delay), Roon, app remote, voicings, 2 x 60/120w +++++ 🙏 (no DAC in the pathway anywhere) Everything in the size of a shoebox! And it is about 2400 USD here in Denmark
    Greetings from Denmark 🇩🇰🇩🇰🇩🇰

      not enough power... you either need the 3400 or the 1170 with digital out. Analogue outs are rubbish.

    I own an MEN220, and I can’t imagine having a system without it. The difference is really quite something, particularly with a room that’s going to be hard to treat acoustically, for whatever reason

    I had one in my system, it made vocals sound amazing, however, it took out almost all of the bass. I ran the test and measurements a few times and achieved the same result. I ended up selling it.

    MEN220 is just voodoo magic. It doesn't make sense, but produces results that are just unbelievable. It has been one of the best purchases I've made and have zero regrets. The best thing about is is the perfect integration of the subs into my room. That alone makes it worth it. The added benefit of enhanced imaging is just a cherry on the top.

      I have the Lyngdorf TDAI-3400 and the Room Perfect is just amazing, I've found out it can be used as a pass-through box also like the MEN220 and you can put a preamp before it and then run it out to power amps of your choice, simply LOVE Room Perfect, bet it sounded amazing in this room 🙂

    With regards to loosing bass. Not true with DIRAC. You can put in any desired Frequency Response curve in to suit your individual preference. One can boost the bass frequencies
    as much as one sees fit

    Thank you! So this device converts the analogue signal coming from the preamp to digital, then applies filters, and then converts the digital signal back to analogue to send to the amp? Does this conversion affect the sound of the preamp and source? Also, when watching movies, is there latency?

    Thanks Audio Excellence for bring this cool product to our attention.
    Question 1: Is the MEN220 before the preamp or the amp?
    Question 2: Despite all the final filter settings (Neutral, Loudness, Music, Soft etc.), does it allow you to input your own house target curve (e.g. based on Harman's curve research)?
    As I see it, I think a better approach for digital sources (CDs, streaming etc) would be to do the DSP magic upstream and then pass the modified signal to your DAC and on to the pre and amp and main speakers so that you are only doing digital-to-analog conversion once! The way it was demo'd shows a digital-to-analog-back to digital-to-analog conversion cycle which I'd guess would negatively affect the signal quality. Upstream DSP ahead of the DAC and when combined with multi-channel DSP capability (which I assume it can do as home theatre was mentioned as a usage in the video) and a multi-channel DAC (e.g. exaSound DACs are 8 channels), would allow its filters to be tailored to each individual speaker which is the best way to go for flexibility and room control.

      In respect to Question #1, I was wondering the same thing. What is the optimal link in the chain/stream to place the unit?

    • @aki.habara
      @aki.habara 2 года назад

      1. Put the MEN220 after the preamp. The pre will collect all inputs into a centralized user-chosen output which will feed the MEN200 followed by the amplifiers or active subwoofers with room-calibrated audio.
      2. You can create your own custom curve using the MEN220VoicingTool and uploading it to the unit via the RS-232 port in the back.

    • @guygil
      @guygil 2 года назад

      @@aki.habara Do you have any thoughts on connecting a powered sub directly from the MEN220 low freq connections, or bypassing the MEN220 and connecting the sub with High Level connections and calibrating the sub crossover etc separately? I am also thinking, based on the comments from Adrian re bass, that perhaps the sub should be switched off (in the case of high level connection) while the MEN220 does its thing and only the main speakers are calibrated.

    • @guywhite1004
      @guywhite1004 Год назад +1

      The MEN 220 which I’ve had in my system for several years is at its best when driving STEREO subs through its Low Pass outputs. It acts as a crossover-plus. It not only flattens the subs’ room response but it also makes the crossover from the main speakers to the subs almost seamless by taking the distance from the subs and the main speakers to the listener’s seat and adjusting the phase of the subs. This allows you to place the subs in the corners of the room to get the most even room response. With the adjustable crossover slopes one can adapt almost any speaker and sub to each other. I’ve used it with Magnepan 1.7’s as well as dynamic floor standers, and it works well with both. As far as analog to digital to analog conversions being done I would say it is imperceptible. Highly recommended, especially if you’re having problems integrating subwoofers to your system.

    Great video, as always!
    Quick question, is McIntosh lighting up the lettering red when in standby mode? I have a new McIntosh C49, and when I put it in standby, the lettering lights up red from green. None of my other McIntosh products do this and it seems like you can see it in the video at 4:03 where it looks like the lettering lights up red….?
    Just curious. Thanks!

    Is there much to be gained from a device like this in a single purpose, specialty built music room? No room is perfect, but I'd imagine less can be done in a room treated and tuned during construction. Thoughts?

    Thanks Adrian, interesting video as always. my pre amp n amp are NOT macintosh brand.
    If I insert 220 in between my pre amp n amp, will the resulting sound quality WITHOUT rm corrections , be about the same as without 220 , SINCE the analog fm preamp will go thro a A to D n then D to A inside 220 before it outputs into the power amp ? What do u think or if u hv a different non mcintosh pre amp m amp to 'trial out' ? :)

    How does this unit work if you have multiple speakers in a surround/atmos system? Is it restricted to normal stereo amp systems? Would (assuming only the front speaker pair) be only between preamp and amp?

      It can be used!, Just retire the bridges between the output and input in the MA12000; make the signal go to the MEN220 and then back to the MA12000 and you are done.
      I know this very well because I have the MEN220 and investigated the whole thing directly with McIntosh before ordering the MA12000 this week.

    So called room correction systems by any manufacturer are by themselves fatally flawed. The reason is that this automated equalization system adjusts the direct and reflected sound simultaneously. It can't be fixed because the speakers and the system are inherently designed that way. Another problem is that the signal from the source device can have its spectral balance all over the place so additional equalization is needed to get each recording flat all the way back to the recording microphones. If you are a golden ears critical listener like I am this can be very time consuming and difficult. It relies on acoustic memory of live unamplified music. I'm an engineer not an audiophile so designing, building, and adjusting these systems with those capabilities is a hobby and an engineering challenge. What does this mean? It means a recording of a Steinway piano should sound like a Steinway and not a Baldwin which has a different sonic profile.

    Why have ANALOG inputs when the processing is DIGITAL?! OMG that is Terrible. Now you are converting to and from digital, twice! Terrible.

  • @Fluterra
    @Fluterra 2 года назад +1

    Bahahaha. Shows how little you know. Trinnov makes the best room correction, by far. Not even close.
    The included mic is a cheap $30 unit that is unfortunately not accurate enough for the best setup.

    The amount of plastic.... when will audiophiles start to care for the environment when judging good packaging..?

    • @guywhite1004
      @guywhite1004 Год назад +3

      The environment does not come into play. A good owner keeps the packaging in which his equipment comes so he can ship it, move households, or re-sell the unit.

      Yes they do, they keep the boxes and instead of buying stuff that must be replaced after a few years to buy to keep stuff for a very long period and if they change their gear will be sold second hand in the original cases….
